You can blame CAPCOM for that, actually. Because it's a direct tracing of the 3D models from the GS5 game. Thanks, though.

Forgive me for the intrusion (especially since I'm not sure if you're after critique?), but your second AA:DD Phoenix sprite's thumb has been bugging me for the past few days. I've been struggling for a way to express it but I've been short for words, so I thought I would try and fix it myself.

I tried to imitate your shading style and keep what you had to the best extent I could. However, I'm still not entirely convinced by my end result.

It was a very nice try, my friend--but again, like I told Percei, my sprites are direct tracings of the 3D models. The way it looks is based directly on that. So you can blame CAPCOM for their lack of anatomy skills. XD Thanks for trying, though, mercurialSK! :D It was a good suggestion! I literally wouldn't have posted them if they weren't how I wanted them. :3

The danger with direct tracing, especially with the new models, is that things that work on a 3D rendered model don't always translate to a 2D sprite, due to any number of reasons. You musn't be afraid to tweak the tracing after the fact if things look a little wonky, because you're working to bring one medium to another, and things won't always cleanly translate.

Please don't misunderstand me though, they're fabulous tracings, I'm just nitpicking a couple small issues that I notice when I look at them.

It's not the anatomy I have issues with in particular, I understand the need for exaggerated stylistic changes, but the way it's shaded. I still don't know how to put it into words exactly other than that it's been anti-aliased too much. Too... consistently, as if there is no joint there.

I will second Percei's thoughts and add my own: the greatest change in my opinion with the DD models is their shading. Klavier's models are my example of choice here, though perhaps a little extreme (I'm not a fan of the way they chose to render the lighting). In terms of anatomy, however, Apollo's DD model is especially bad if traced directly: take a look at how he crosses his arms. And what is exactly going on with the hand that should be tucked under his elbow. It's not incorrect, but is incredibly painful.

Anatomically, the shoulders in AA have always been drawn extremely wide (Miles Edgeworth...), and there shouldn't be an issue with the stomach being wide because Phoenix's outer jacket is open - by how much leeway depends on how tailored one thinks Phoenix's suit actually happens to be. I would actually suggest that his jacket needs to be wider, because right now the first sprite looks like it can't be closed.

Hmm... You know, the more I think about it, the more you're both making sense. So I edited Phoenix's hand just a bit--however, not quite as much as you did, seeing as you made his thumb a little thin. (Take it from me, I was looking at my own thumb as a reference! :3)

As for the way his jacket is, I didn't change it. I rather like how he looks. I might add some shadowing under the jacket/on the vest to give it the illusion of his jacket not resting fully on his vest. But for now, I'll worry about making the rest of the sprites first. :3

I do see what you're both saying, though! :D

I'm wondering could you do all of his poses from DD including mouth flaps from the front? (I already have courtroom sprites of him.) You don't have to make it exact. I especially want to see one of him smiling.

Update 09/28/14: New AA:DD Phoenix sprites added. One "embarrassed" Phoenix and one
"laughing" Phoenix. :) The embarrassed one I made months ago. Laughing one was completed today.

New Hobo!Nick sprites added. These are customized gun-holding sprites, one
talking, one not. These were made because Gangster Hobo needed to be a thing,
apparently. Also, wow. It's been nearly a year since my last update. o.o Welp, I'm
still here, pals!

Haha! Thank you so much! I thought it'd be awesome to see an objection sprite look even more badass with a gun. But not just editing a gun into the image. Still, I think the hand's a little on the bigger side, but who cares? GANGSTA NICK.

Mr. Hobo, loving your work man! Those DD sprites of Nick you made are just the best I've seen yet! Would you happen to have talking animations for them? :gant:
