But! I shall wait and see if this is the right time for me to be mad at Pokemon...

I'm not too fond of them, TBH. The evolved form just reminds me of and anorexic Shiftry, and the pre-ev is like Vulpix's evil twin. I don't think that I'll ever grow to really like them.

I thought Zoroark was Shadow the Hedgehog when I first saw him. :payne:

Apparently, both the new Pokemon have some important role for the next Pokemon movie...

You mean like Lucario was? I never liked Lucario anyway.

I don't think I'll have time to play the new game next year anyway, 'cause I start university, and I have no idea what the work load's going to be like...

D: Lucario's my favorite Pokemon ever! It's even higher up the list than Gardevoir for me!

Ahem, anyways, I really hope that the "5th Generation" they've announced is a spinoff. T'would put a load off my shoulders if it were.

I really don't see why they need another generation. Pokémon's legendary enough already, and maybe I'm being cynical here by saying that they're only doing it to make more money off people, as opposed to what people want (Personally, I was fine with 3 generations, and 4 was pushing it...) In their defense, however, they did make HGSS, which is what the fans had wanted for a long time.

They're kind of running out of ideas for the Pokémon already too, you can just see it. There are already fox Pokémon, for example. They're not going to be able to make too many more generations before it'll be blatantly obvious that the new ones are rip-offs the old ones. When they do get to that point, they'll probably start remaking the original 151 and ruin all our childhoods.

Also, Yaragorm, the reason I never liked Lucario was because I felt that it was over-used. All my friends who play Pokémon had one in their teams.

To be honest, after the original Gold/Silver (2nd Gen) I kind of stopped caring about the Pokemon...I just didn't get attached to them like I did with 1st and 2nd Gen. (I think this was around the time when I fell out of the Pokemon anime as well.)

There were a few exceptions of course, but every (new) game after that, I played solely for the sake of playing it/keeping with tradition. I haven't even beaten Platinum or Diamond yet - I keep getting to the end with all 8 gym badges and not feeling like fighting the League. (Or in Diamond's case, got my ass handed to me by Cynthia. I am still saved before her.)

I am excited for the Heart Gold/Soul Silver though.

and the new Pokemon Ranger! :D

Huh, I'm surprised it took this long for the topic to be made, considering how long the HeartGold/SoulSilver thread has gotten in such a short amount of time.

Zoroark looks interesting at a glance, though I'll reserve final judgement on it until we know more about it, beyond that it's a dark type and weighs 180 lbs.

Yaragorm wrote:

Seeing as the title of the 13th movie is "Phantom Champion Zoroark", I'd say they do.

Yaragorm wrote:

Considering they reserve the term "new generation" as being exlusive to new games in the main series, it's definately not a spin-off. Still, it's certainly more than a year away for regions outside of Japan, so there's no rush in buying anything Pokemon related beyond HG/SS.

If people didn't want another generation (or the pokemon in it, for that matter), I doubt the generation before it would've sold in the millions, just as the current one wouldn't exist if the one before it didn't sell well, either. Game Freak has to be doing something right if people keep buying the Pokemon games.

Also, what's the big deal of having new pokemon be the same (or similar) species as some of the old ones? It's not like there's no differences within each species in real life, or even in past games. For example, there's three different turtle species in Pokemon, and none of them look alike nor share a type or anything like that. If they can do that for something as mundane as turtles, creativity shouldn't be a problem.

Oh great....Really though how much more can they do? When it comes to legendary Pokemon they got just about every possible kind, even a god of pokemon if memory serves right. I honestly think what they should do is just Make one giant pokemon game. Have every region, everything all in one and let it be the final pokemon game. Or just do my idea and make a MMO out of it. Then just let it slowly fade.

The only thing I'm really interested in is what they do with the legendaries. (Amazing video, LySs!)

There's so many animals Pokemon hasn't done yet. XD I don't see why they need to make weird-looking evil foxes. I mean, why isn't there a badass platypus Pokemon yet? The males can use poison attacks. :P While the female can like chuck egges or something. *shot*

But anyway, they are plenty of animals, insects, allsorts which haven't become Pokemon. I'd love a meerkat Pokemon.

Hmm... V Generation...
When I first saw the IV generation, I thought to myself "They gave a pencil to a baby and turned the drawings into Pokémon" (especially due to Spiritomb)
I finally grew to like them, and here I am, battling with Pokémon Pearl.
It will probably be the same with V... I'll grow to like them... Eventually

Mewtwo will always be the ultimate legendary. Screw what the new gens have to say about that. After G/S, it just feels too tedious with the same rehashed plots. At least G/S WAS a true sequel. These other ones are just giant cash cows.

The original Kanto Pokemon are lame. The only good ones were Charizard and Meowth. Johto only had Gligar and Tyranitar, Hoenn had Gardevoir and Deoxys. But 4th Gen is where the Pokemon really got cool. With Gliscor, Porygon-Z, Rotom, Lucario, Giratina, and lots more.

The only reason Pokemon stays the same is because they know that people are only gonna whine and complain much like you are about how things should've stayed the same.

And for those who say Pokemon is just a cash cow, just remember. Mario is still Nintendo's best selling series.

I'm not sure what to think about the two announced 5th generation Pokemon, but I'm not that impressed. Zorua reminds me too much of Eevee and Poochyena. :/ Knowing me, I'll probably still buy the game when it comes out, but eh. The new Pokemon just don't have the same charm that the original ones did.

^ This.

I freakin' LOVED pokemon when I was a kid. I was so excited when 2nd Gen just came out because all that came to my mind was "ZOMG NEW POKEMON!!!" But once 3rd Gen came around, I didn't want to deal with keeping track of 100+ new pokemon and I began to lose interest. So I pretty much skipped out on the 3rd gen games, like Ruby and Sapphire. (And then I turned to Yu-Gi-Oh~)

But when the 4th gen came around, Pokemon piqued my interest again. I wanted to play Pearl because of all the cool new shit you could do with the Nintendo DS.

But now that there's a 5th Gen coming out, I don't know how I really feel on the matter.

And hay, this would probably break the pokeyman tradition, but am I the only one who'd love to see a 3D version of one of the games made for the Wii or something? I'm talking about like R/B or G/S in the same style as Colosseum or XD: Gale of Darkness.

Game Freak has to be doing something right if people keep buying the Pokemon games.

But the thing is, Nintendo realises how addictive Pokémon is, and recognises the fact that there are so many people who literally "Gotta catch 'em all". By producing more generations and more games, they're just taking advantage of these people. Then this leads to peer pressure - for example, I have a friend who is really into Pokémon. She's not the sort of person who buys both version of the same game (i.e. she doesn't have Diamond AND Pearl). Because of the version exclusives etc., she would try to pressure me into buying the other version of a new game, even thought I really didn't want to, because I don't approve of more generations etc.

On a different note (actually, they're kind of the same), new generations would mean that they'd also have to make spin-offs with the new generation (Mystery Dungeon, Ranger etc.), which would mean that Nintendo would get even more money from the franchise.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

But seriously, I think that people only hate the third generation because they got mad at having to deal with new things like Abilities, Weather, and EV Values. Those alone probably caused half the fanbase to cry about it.

Though, most of the spinoffs really are kinda boring and maybe even a bit like overreaching moneymakers, but hey, they're just spinoffs. Besides, I've always like the Mystery Dungeon and Ranger series. I never played Colloseum or XD though...

I love Sabrina :larry:
Anyway, Pokemon never bothered me that much until Gen 4 when they went 3D, which took me a while to get used to, and when basic moves like Tackle started emitting sparks and fireworks. Also when they added in awful-looking Pokemon like the Sneasel, Electrabuzz, Lickitung and Magmar evolutions that ruined the entire line.

Not really - there's debate about the new Pokemon and moves and graphics and all that, but I don't think anyone would whine and complain about an original plot.

Honestly, I don't mind the new monster design. I think it's about as good as in the other games.

Here are some good ideas that I wish Nintendo would consider:
- Have a more... exciting battle system. Timed hits for extra damage a la Mario RPG, a real-time event system... Anything.
- Remove the random encounters.
