Anyway, by "men of our word", I'm assuming he's referring to his vow that ZE3 would be released. Longest night will have an end is probably the amount of time we've been in limbo with this game or something

For example, if Yamazaki posted some cryptic message about GS6 on twitter and then revealed it was a joke, I wouldn't be as upset because I still know GS6 will happen eventually

I figured it was 9+17=26, but that works too
I don't think it relates to Ever17 at all. A 17-shift is just a 9-shift backwards. That's most probably the reason.
Then again, a 9-shift could also be considered a 17-shift backwards... Still, I think this is ZE3.

You know, I'm starting to think that the whole thing with the word "salt" was supposed to be an April Fool's joke by Aksys that everyone took seriously. Like, they could've added "salt" to make people think it was a fighting game, due to that word's association with fighting games. I mean, why make that one vanish and leave "ring?"

We still don't have enough information to deduce what it can mean, but I expect more by April 7, a weel after "ring" appeared, since weekly updates seems to be the norm here.

Edit: Aksys teased it again here. That stream is a fighting game stream if I understand things right. Either it's just a casual mention, or this was all for a fighting game after all. Might be a good idea to keep your eye on that stream this Saturday.

It does kind of fit, if there is a poll for characters in SSB, but Aksys doesnt publish Smash, Then again it explains why Uchikoshi knows something, and the Greek stuff points to Phi...
Also I doubt they'd tease something this long just to have a certain character in SSB

Only tangentially related note: My friend blazed through every ending in 999 besides the true ending two nights ago. He snapchatted me his reactions to each ending, and his Axe ending picture (which came in at 2 am, best time to get that ending) was just a picture of "that" moment with the caption "WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK." (This was way better than my girlfriend's "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!") If you ever get the chance to see a friend react on their playthrough, I highly recommend it.

First of all, Zero Escape is not a franchise people are clamoring for Smash Bros. It's a bad financial decision to put Phi in because a lot of non-ZE fans won't want her.
Second, she has a non-existent moveset besides a big jump.
Third, she's not the face of Zero Escape. If a character got in, I could see MAYBE Sigma or Junpei. Maybe even the standard gas mask Zero. But Phi?
(Though, if they did decide to put ZE in Smash, it would be cool to have a Bowser Jr-esque character. Junpei would take one place on the roster, but his seven alt skins would be his seven companions during 999)
I've been convincing a bunch of people to play 999 and a few have moved on to VLR. It's interesting cause with each person who has played 999 including myself, nobody has chosen the same favorite character. With VLR, each person who's played has guessed a different big plot twist (I guessed K's identity, one person guessed the location of the facility, and another guessed Zero's identity). Anyway, I told my friend to not go through a door with K until I could do it with him. He complied and I got to watch him get the K ending. That was pretty great (I got to see him put in the username and password for the Luna ending, too. Another great reaction)
