With BlueAttorney4ever we are now at 11 players.

I agree that items are great fun Pierre and I'll gladly play lots of matches with both of them on, but I think those are more suited for normal fun matches instead of this tournament. Your remark is noted though.

If more players want items and or stage hazards I'll incorporate them into the tournament so if people want them included: make your voices heard here. If around 50% (so currently at least 5 players) want them on then that's going to be the way we roll. If no other people object to the current rules then it'll be Final Destination version only with no items.

People will have until 5 October to submit their entry and voice their opinion on the matter: items yes/no and stage hazards yes/no. After this date I'm going to arrange the brackets and look for a date that will suit most people.

Items and Stage hazzards: You have my vote of YES on both.

I'm not in it to win anything; though, that would be cool. I'm just here to have fun.

I'm fine with either, but I'd prefer the item spawn rate be kept to a minimum.

Did someone say AAO members?

I'm down for joining. As for opinions? Yes for items, no for stage hazards.

It might end up making it a bit more work, but why not let the people in each match decide? The point is to have fun, and if one pair wants to play with items/hazards and another doesn't, why does that really matter? (But to then eliminate arguments, if either play doesn't want items or stage hazards, they shouldn't have them; that is, "no" beats "yes.")

Another thing you need to consider: customization, yay or nay. (I think you should allow for customized movesets, but don't allow them to equip anything. One issue is that you can't actually check to make sure people haven't equipped anything, but... hopefully we can all trust each other?)

Ok so for now we got: Pierre, Doitsu, Klonoa, Alonso, Prof Yoshi, SquareMB, Sumguy, Blademaster Orca, BlueAttorney4ever, kwando1313, Bad Player, Genodragon (and company?) & myself, which amounts to 13 players.

Current rules:
First player to win 2 matches advances (So best of 3 matches) in the tournament
Match type: stock matches with 3 lives per match.
Matches will be 1 vs 1 player
Buffs are a no go! (if they exist)

Poll results:
Stage hazards: 2 Against, 2 Pro , 2 Don't care & 6 not Decided
Items: 1 Against, 3 Pro , 2 Don't care & 6 not Decided
Custom move sets: 0 Against, 0 Pro , 1 Don't care & 11 not Decided

Customization of lets say Mii characters are fine in my book, custom move sets aren't really broken as far as I've heard so it should be OK. I don't know if you can buff characters with stickers or something, but let's leave those out.

I'd do like universal rules for the tournament since it makes things more fair. If you want to play someone with different rules, go ahead! I mean, you can play any way you want outside of the tournament right?

The "universal rule" can be that the players decide :basil:

I mean, isn't it nice to minimize the number of people playing a way they don't want to?

I guess it's a bit iffy when one person wants them and another don't, but if A and B face each other and both want items, and C and D face each other and both don't want items, why not fair if A and B use items, and C and D don't?

I'd like to think involving items introduces a tactical level of play otherwise missing from the game.

Though I'm fine with custom movesets, I imagine they are balanced and tweaked anyway.

Well, what's the point of organizing a tournament if everyone plays by his own rules? In your case I don't see the benefit of making brackets and see who comes out on top, since the means to measure victory will keep changing depending on the players. In your scenario wouldn't it be better to simply exchange friend codes and asking (through PM or other means) to play in the way you want?

You're noted Mijumaru, total of 14 players now.

Hey, it would be best if you can be more specific about which items are going to be used in matches and which items aren't.

As for the poll, yes for the items. No for the stage hazards.

I'm fine with items/hazards/custom moves. Makes things more interesting, and it's not like the acquisition of said item instantly makes you lose a stock. They still have to get you with it. Learning to make them waste or lose the item is part of the game. Stage hazards are fair game as everyone can get hit, and the same goes for custom moves as they are for all, not one. But since some items are just such garbage, I'd be fine with not seeing those particular ones at all, haha :gymshoe:

I should probably answer the poll thingy...
Stage Hazards: It doesn't really make a difference to me, but I think that having stages that aren't just flat blocks is part of the Smash Bros. appeal.
Items: Yes for some, no for others.
Custom Movesets: Doesn't make a difference to me.

Note that it is not true for all stage hazards. The Earthbound stage for example features Flying Man spawning on the far right, who becomes an ally to the first one to touch him. You will learn to love him as your own ally and utterly hate him as your opponent's ally. Especially in 1 on 1's, which effectively turn into 1 on 2's.

Eh, but I like it half-ish of both. Like... I don't mind different stages, just some hazards are silly. Same with items. Some items are good. Others are bad.

I think we should allow Items and Stage Hazards.
I always played with items in Brawl, I had a good time KOing people with baseball bats.
But some items (like the ray gun and deku nut) are just annoying , so some items should be banned.
Stage hazards doubles the fun.

But if no one can come to a convlusion, we'll just have to SETTLE IT IN SMASH

Why not do it like smash tourneys usually do it? Some stages only for 3+ fighters, some stages only for doubles, some stages only for 1v1. Items used in all early matches, and in any 3+ match. 1v1 rounds will be without items.

Or something like that, them's the rules as far as I can remember. :yummy:

We could add a Fluxx-like addition to the game. Like, we play Smash Bros using new rules given by the rule changes we create. "Everyone must be a non-human-or-hylian character", or "B moves only", or something like that.

Basically, it'd run like that. Like "to win this match, you must place 3rd of 4 places", or "play hot potato with Villager's tree, KO's only done via this method".

Also is it possible to spectate on friends matches? If so we could totally get a scam good bit of fun in the spectator pools what with the betting system.

:youngmia: Of course it is! Finding new ways to play games is amazing! Like playing Goldeneye with only slaps, role playing a Monster Rancher playthrough as an abusive drunk, role playing any Elder Scrolls or Fallout game, going through Quest 64 mastering Fire/Wind instead of the usual Earth/Water, et cetera. It adds spice and flavor on top of everything else! It tests imagination as much as it tests skill! :scientific:

We could always host a second tournament if the 1st one is a succes. Or at least I'll get feedback on what can be improved.

POLL TIME!
Stage hazards: 4 Against, 4 Pro , 3 Don't care & 3 not Decided
Items: 2 Against, 8 Pro , 2 Don't care & 2 not Decided
Custom move sets: 0 Against, 1 Pro , 2 Don't care & 11 not Decided

Looks like the items question is partially settled so the new set rules will be:
Match type: stock matches with 3 lives per match.
Matches will be 1 vs 1 player
Items: On. Although a ban of certain items is still up for debate
Buffs are a no go! (if they exist)

Seems like most people want Items to be on, so that's going to be the way it is. I Propose a medium drop rate if this is the case. Any Items that need to be banned?

The stage hazard question is pretty even. If this is the case I'll offer a compromise: Players are allowed to pick stages themselves. If the players cannot agree a 'final destination stage' will be chosen first. After the first match the loser is allowed to pick the next stage, all options included.

I would like some more feedback regarding the custom move set question, but as it stands people don't seem to have a problem with it. If this trend continues they will be allowed.

DoMaya, do you also want to enter the tournament?

Regarding the drill, it is only strong if it hits anyone. And, wait, does the poison mushroom do damage, or does it just shrink you? Because I think being small has it's advantages.

I'm not sure what the galaga swarm is (that 3 piece thing?), but the beetle is annoying as fuck. Consider it banned

Drill is fine in my opinion. It's strong, but not overpowered

The poison mushroom only works with the normal one. This way you'll create a risk vs reward situation. I'ts ok by me.

Hammer can be held at bay with projectile attacks.

Galaga Swarm is the pixel ship thingy... the 3-piece thing is Genesis (although I think it has a different English name)

It's not too hard to OHKO someone with the drill tho ~_~ It's not as easy as with the beetle or galaga ship, but still

What's wrong with just having a 'reward'? It's how all the items (except the hammers) function. I personally find it really annoying and frustrating to have to tell the difference between a slight color tint in the middle of a fray, especially now that it's on the smaller 3DS screen.
