What's your all-time favorite movie(s)?

Mine has to be The Blues Brothers. That movies so freaking old-school, classic, and timeless yet awesome at the same time with it's over-the-topness and it's swinging music. It's one of those movies I can just watch again and again and still enjoy it. Larry

Star Wars: return of the Jedi.

I've loved this movie since I first watched it when I was like, five. It's my favorite of all six I think, and I never get tired of watching it.

Hmm...that's a tough one. I have SO many that I really like. *ponder* Hmm...

Gettysburg
Full Metal Jacket
Platoon
Ice Age (My feel good movie. When I'm in a bad mood, I pop this into the DVD player and watch it. I always feel better afterwards)
Robin Hood (Disney) Loved this one since I was a kid. Edgy Thinks
Finding Nemo (A really sweet flick)
Jaws (Whenever I'm mad at someone or multiple people, I always watch this. The ones who get chewed on-screen I imagine is/are the person/people who are bothering me and I feel better. It's amazingly satisfying. :) )
The Others (GREAT supernatural thriller with one heck of a surprise twist at the end)
Friday the 13th Parts 1-4 & 6 (Good ones of the venue, in my opinion)
The Fog (1980) (The BEST!)
The Blair Witch Project (Good stuff! Gives me the willies)
The Evil Dead/Evil Dead II/Army of Darkness (Gotta love Ash)
The Blues Brothers (LOVE that chase scene!)
Hawmps! (Saw this when I was a kid. Still love it. Camel calvary concept is still funny)
Gus
The Love Bug/Herbie Goes Bananas/Herbie goes to Monte Carlo (LOVE Herbie!)
The Million Dollar Duck
Murder By Death (Spoof of mystery novels. LOVE the talking moosehead)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (LOVE Jack Sparrow! He has so many good/funny lines in this movie it's amazing! I also like the Commodore, too)
The Matrix/The Matrix: Reloaded
Johnny Mnemonic
Van Helsing

As for non-animated movies.... I watch too little of them. Guess I'm not a movie freak after all Payne

But tomorrow, I will dine in hell!!!

Depends on the genre. If you're talking romance, for example, then Notting Hill. From there on with my favorites, though, it gets distorted. I'd say Donnie Darko is one of my favorite thrillers Saving Private Ryan is one of my favorite war 'epics'...

I just can't pick one. Although, I listed them all out and by process of elimination Initial D wound up on the top (followed by some Tom Hanks and Bill Murray films), but it's still not my overall favorite.

It's so hard to pick just one! Shaun of the Dead was simply put amazing, and I cannot wait for their new movie. [HottFuzz] Ocean's Eleven was brilliant, though I've heard Twelve wasn't that great ... but I'm going to see it because Ocean's Thriteen is going to be in theaters soon! Also, Casino Royale and Mr. & Mrs. Smith were some I loved as well.

Prestige was just wow, I'm not sure I could explain how I felt about that. Blew me away.

However, right now I would have to go with Equilibrium being my favorite movie. I hate the matrix and was skeptical about watching this because it had some of the same aspects but damn. Excellent movie.

Sidenote: 300 was pretty awesome too.

I am dissapointed at the lack of Hitchcock, and older movies in general.

My favorite movie has to be Rope by the aforementioned- One of the more "seat edger" movies, but surprisingly entertaining. Like most Hitchcock, there's alot of witty banter and venom laden exchanges. Cool.

As for animated movies, Hunchback of Notre Dame handsdown. The layout for that movie was fantastic, and it had one of the best musical numbers in Disney history- Hellfire.

Older movies tend to be just "classics/timeless" in the eyes of those that weren't born in the time frame, unless the person in question really enjoys classic films as a hobby of sorts; they tend to simply be "appreciated". For example, I think Rope is indeed great, as well as North by Northwest and Gaslight. But they aren't exactly films I'd watch again and again or think of when "favorite" is mentioned.

That's true. I've rarely met anyone who had an absolute favorite movie from a time period other than their own, let alone anyone who wanted to watch a Hitchcock over and over again.

Oh, and thinking about it again, another favorite of mine was Monsters Inc. Whenever I need a little splash of color in my day, I pop that in.

Any Pixar movie can splash color into ones day. Cars is debatable, but I can't think of a single full-length film they've done that hasn't been awesome.

Favorite of all time might actually be Kung Pow enter the fist. For someone who has seen the majority of all kung fu movies ever it was nice to see a goofy parody. (and yes every steven segal movie has the exact same plot) For absolute serious-ness though the Godfather part one.

I'm not a huge movie fan, but there are quite a few that I've enjoyed a lot:

Young Frankenstein
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Life is Beautiful
Pan's Labyrinth

I'm sure there's some more, but I can't think of them.

Let's see:

The Terminator trilogy. (With T2 as my favorite)
The Matrix "
LOTR "
Star Wars (All of them)
Saving Private Ryan
Reservoir Dogs
Alice in Wonderland
Indiana Jones
Nightmare on Elm Street Pt. 1
Labyrinth
Starship Troopers
Red Dawn

I think that's about it. There could be more, but I don't want to waste space.

What is Ocean's Eleven about anyway? I never seen it!

mmm Mel Brooks is always good, seeing some people have mentioned spaceballs and Young Frankenstein.

Those two are really far up there for me.

Kung Pow....always great for a laugh, but not quite my favorite.

And regarding Hitchcock....he's a fabulous director. But like HH said, people really more like movies that were made during the time they were living, or at least old enough to remember. I've seen quite a few of his movies (Rear Window, Psycho, Birds, and Rope to name a few), and I liked them. But I wouldn't rank them as my favorites.

As far as comedy movies go : The Calamari Wrestler. That is genius.

Anything else? A Clockwork Orange - Burgess might have hated it, but honestly, as far as that movie goes, I put him on the same plane as Alan Moore - Don't know a good movie adaptation if it bit him in the ass.

Burgess probably disliked it because it didn't have the whole ending. It had the original American ending, which was cut short from the original book.

It's one of my favorite books, and despite how much I like the style of the movie, I don't like it as an adaptation.

Standalone, though, it's great.

I also forgot to mention Dead Poets Society. Great, great movie.

And that's how I like it. As a standalone.

I've read the book (the original version, so I know the real ending of the whole dealio), and it's really a different atmosphere. The movie is indeed more American than what is presented, and it just makes for something different. The book is where it's at if you want the real experience though.
