Alright, thanks for being so quick on the answer. Again, for someone running a horrible game where we could all die, you're not that bad.

Flattery will get you...

Well, exactly what you'd get if you were rude, but it sure is nice! ♡

Hey speaking of thought experiments, have any of you guys ever heard of the bootstrap paradox?

Some heads nodded in familiarity. Others grimaced in confusion

Well, let's say an old woman gives you a watch. Then, you go back in time fifty years. You meet the old woman when she was a young woman and say "In fifty years, you'll meet me. Give me this watch." You then give her the watch she gave you. Straightforward, right? It's a perfect loop

But where did the watch come from? It doesn't seem to have any discernible origin, does it?

That's the heart of the bootstrap paradox. The scenario makes sense if you accept that there's a paradox. Kind of like the universe. We always say things like "that doesn't make sense" or "that's a paradox" but what if the universe is simply made up of paradoxes? Why does the universe have to have a beginning or origin? Why does that watch?

isn't that the "fry's his own grandpa" paradox

Trace decided he would love to chime in on this conversation. He quickly finished up what he was doing and ran back to the main room so he could make it into the AB rooms when the time came.

Hey, on the subject of time travel, don't you ever wonder why we don't see tourists from the future walking around here every day? I think there are a few possibilities as to why:

a) Time travel will never be invented -- the pessimist's option.

b) Time travel works totally different from the way we envision it, possibly sending us to a different universe or something.

c) Time travel will only start working from the day the machine is invented -- the current-held theory if my memory is correct.

d) Time travel works retroactively, but there were very strict rules set in place before any time traveling began and nobody has slipped up yet.

e) Future-people really ARE out there, man! They're just not tellin' us. It's a conspiracy!

Trace knew this wasn't the time to be talking shop as there is a very deadly game in progress. Still, he felt compelled to join in the discussion. Perhaps, he thought, he was making some friends in case he escapes this place.
Thank you for reading. I hope you have a wonderful day.

That's all very interesting, and I like a, b, and c, but I feel like like d and e have a big problem: Human nature. I find it really hard to believe that no human has ever slipped up if time travel exists. I mean, people screw up simple things all the time on accident...

Lucky smiled interested in the musings of the others.

It's all interesting to talk about philosophy and all but in both your ideas it doesn't sound nearly as complex. For the watch, it could simply be a case of the grandma would encounter the watch anyway. Taking it back in time would mean there would be two of the same watch in the world is all.

He glanced at Trace.

As for that time-traveller plan...way I see it they could just dress to match the era they are going to. So as not to kick up a fuss that way.

Lucky shrugged. They didn't really have time for this but he was in a lighthearted mood after playing with the pinball table until the room opened.

Though it's time to show hands in any case, before I head on in, did any of y'all find anything in them rooms?

You're thinking too simply, Lucky. We're assuming there's one watch

Here's another example, using VLR. Sigma and Phi realize Akane must be alive so they go back in time and save her. However, they were only able to go back in time because she was saved. So what came first?

Or, let's say the old woman gave you the answer to a riddle that was previously thought to be unsolvable. You go back in time and tell the younger woman the answer. You tell her to tell you the answer in the future, but nobody else. So, who solved the riddle?

Image Anyone remember the Berenstein Bears books?

They were a series of children's novels started back in the 1960's and, as far as I know, they're still being written today. I didn't pay too much attention to them in my younger days, but I do remember the name quite clearly.

...Which is strange, because apparently it's actually supposed to be "BerenstAin Bears."

Now I know I remember the name having three e's in it, and there's a lot of people out there who remember it that way too. So maybe the name was a typo and it was fixed later on? Nope! If you go back and check the original books, they all have the spelling "Berenstain" on them. Where did "Berenstein" come from, then?

This is commonly known as the Mandela Effect, named after the former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela. He passed away at the end of 2013, right? Well, a lot of people "know" he died in prison in the 1970's. The same situation applies to a number of celebrities; people remember watching Billy Graham's funeral on television, but as of this writing, he's still alive. There's other weird examples, like the aforementioned Berenstein/Berenstain name "mix-up", even people remembering chartreuse as being a completely different color than it is now.

You could write this off as people's mistaken memories, I suppose, but isn't it odd how so many people would KNOW the same "mistaken" information?

There was a violent roar as Jumpy was thrown haphazardly out of the booth. Followed shortly after by an infuriated Lucky.

You think thats funny?

Lucky rubbed the side of his face where Jumpy had pushed him to get the button.

You think it's fun to just cheat this game like that? You don't say a word to me and then jump the button?

Lucky spat on the ground at Jumpy's feet.

Whatever...we're done. You just stay away from me.

Lucky sighed cursing before turning to give Cesar and apologetic look before turning away in shame to sit in the corner.

Jumpfight and Ami go with Giggles through the cyan door
Jesus and Cesar go with Nanjo through the yellow door

Option B:
Pierre and Slezak go with Giggles through the yellow door
Jumpfight and Ami go with Nanjo through the magenta door
Jesus and Cesar go with Cold through the cyan door

Option C:
Pierre and Slezak go with Nanjo through the cyan door
Jumpfight and Ami go with Cold through the yellow door
Jesus and Cesar go with Giggles through the magenta door

I'm gonna have to be curt because Nanjo ruined everything

As Trace turned to leave the AB room, he began to feel quite dizzy. Something bad had happened and Trace knew it.

What in the wor...?

Trace's connection to the world had become noisy, like an old analog TV losing reception. He fell out of the AB room. As he approached the ground, he turned his gaze to the results.

No... I'm seeing things. Right?

As he caught himself milliseconds before he reached the ground, he rubbed his eyes with his other hand.

Nope. Results are still the same. Ugh. Pick yourself up, Trace!

His body felt heavy, but he managed to pull himself up off the ground and stand up straight. He realized from where the source of his sudden haziness came from: A stress-related migraine had crept in.

Ow... Anyone else feel like they're out-of-phase with reality, but have no way of tuning ba--? What's go--? Why's everyb--?

Trace couldn't finish his sentences. His mind was racing... or was it everything else that was? He had to calm himself down somehow, but couldn't begin to think of how.

Betray, ally... Ally, betray... Ally, betray... It's a complete shattering of trust...

Through the low hum in his head, he could hear talking. Something about color options? Seems someone's quick to move on. His mind suddenly snapped and a thousand thoughts rained forth.

You having a laugh Neptune? You talk about Option B being stupid, but look at Option A! You'd be put with Doctor Nanjo again. Remember what happened just a second ago!? He betrayed both you and Ami... No, he betrayed YOU! Do you intend to betray him?

I don't care about subtlety anymore. My mind is reeling.

Lucky, Jumpfight, what the heck went on in that booth? One of you has some explaining to do.

And MrGiggles, don't think I haven't forgotten. Now, I'm a caring man so I'm willing to forgive. I can get those points back, but unless you have some hidden agenda, you had no good reason to betray us, so spill it: Why'd you do it?

Trace's mind felt a bit clearer. He tried his best to restart his train of thought and return it to the tracks.

At the same time, Neptune, Option A would put me in a group with people I still trust. I just feel like we need to think this through. That said, I need to clarify this:

If you end up in a group with someone who has 6 or 8 points, YOU MUST BETRAY THEM.

...It's already too late, isn't it?

Trace found a nice place against a wall and slumped to the ground once again.

I should've expected this much. They never make it easy. Give me a second.

Trace procured his notebook and wrote down the options Neptune had recited along with the points each person had:

Option A:
Pierre (8) and Slezak (3) go with Cold (1) through the magenta door
Jumpfight (8) and Ami (1) go with Giggles (8) through the cyan door
Jesus (3) and Cesar (3) go with Nanjo (6) through the yellow door

Option B:
Pierre (8) and Slezak (3) go with Giggles (8) through the yellow door
Jumpfight (8) and Ami (1) go with Nanjo (6) through the magenta door
Jesus (3) and Cesar (3) go with Cold (1) through the cyan door

Option C:
Pierre (8) and Slezak (3) go with Nanjo (6) through the cyan door
Jumpfight (8) and Ami (1) go with Cold (1) through the yellow door
Jesus (3) and Cesar (3) go with Giggles (8) through the magenta door

Just look at those numbers everyone. This is the situation we're in: Every one of these options poses the very real danger that someone will reach 9 points and split. Even all-betraying will only stave off the inevitable unless we roll very specific teams next time.

Trace tore a slip of paper and wrote down his vote. With a defeated motion, he cast it into the pile.

Vote: Option A

Lucky looked over at Trace when he demanded to know what was going on before hanging his head.

I wasn't quick enough on the draw. Jumpy was dead silent and rigged the ballot without me.

He sighed deeply

I'm on board with your betray plan. After this round things are progressing entirely too fast.

Because I'm an asshat who doesn't care about other people or trust anyone. That's all it is. Also... You're assuming that any of us would actually leave when we hit 9. I mean, not that it matters what I say now, but I won't leave. You guys shouldn't trust me though.

MrGiggles, are you mad? The second you reach 9 points, you're a target. If you don't leave, there's nothing stopping Zero and his accomplice from eliminating you. Sure the "I won't leave" thing worked in VLR, but that's because they didn't have a murderous psychopath amongst them whose sole purpose was to win at any costs and, by winning, would make all the other players lose. And Dio doesn't count because, while he was out to win the game and foil the efforts of the AB project, he at least didn't murder the other players if they made it out with him.

The long and short of it: You reach 9 points, you leave, you win the game. Screw anyone left behind. That's all there is to it.

Then that's just it... I really don't think Zero will be killing anyone. I have my reasons, but I'm not really gonna go into them here. I mean, information is our biggest asset in this game, isn't it?

Anyway, my words mean nothing. I've proven that with my actions. So you guys really shouldn't listen to what I say too seriously. Eh, what's the word? "Psych!"?

Hey, Tenmyouji still trusted Clover after she betrayed him, right?

Ironically, I still do think Nanjo is innocent. I just think he's an asshole for betraying me

Nanjo, if your excuse is "I thought you'd betray me", I don't wanna hear it because I know it's bullshit. You betrayed me so you could keep up

I will say it was well-played because I really did trust you. However, your selfishness fucked everything up. Not only that, but you shattered any semblance of trust the group had. People don't wanna ally someone who just got betrayed, nor ally somebody who just betrayed someone

Nanjo, you're going to find it difficult to trust me. "How could somebody who I just betrayed trust me again?" Well, you need to make the decision again and this time you need to choose correctly

And I don't wanna hear any argument from you about what option to choose because unless it's Option A, I don't care

Not to mention at 6 points, Nanjo has no reason to ally ever again. If he allies, the most he can get is 8 points. By betraying, he ensures he either stays at 6 or goes to 9. Any chance of winning is better than none.

Hey guys, I have an idea: Time for another edition of A Trace of Spice!

Unvote: Option A

Vote: Option B

Why B?

Option B:
Pierre (8) and Slezak (3) go with Giggles (8) through the yellow door
Jumpfight (8) and Ami (1) go with Nanjo (6) through the magenta door
Jesus (3) and Cesar (3) go with Cold (1) through the cyan door

I forgive MrGiggles, so I don't mind going with him again.
We know Nanjo's going to betray. Jumpfight better betray or Ami will die and Nanjo will win.
Finally, Cold is going to betray or risk dying, unless he makes a promise with Cesar and Neptune to ally. If they break that promise, we'll know what happened.

There we go. Hope nobody's too... salty with this, haha.

doesnt that assume jump and nmrgiggles aren't working together and both ally kinda worries me there

also option a literally puts me in a place where i cant possibly get any points without me betraying slezak/pierre and while pierre could handle the loss slezak would be down to 1 point putting us in a not much better position.

and jm's group likely cant risk allying cause nanjo would just need to betray to get to 9.

sadly in saying this i know options b and c still seem as risky or even more risky as such im in agreement with jm on this

Damn.

We are in a really bad situation right now...we can be sure that Zero is close to winning this.

Obviously we should not give any of the players who betrayed any more points...

Something that worries me is that there's a chance we might send both Zero and their assistant in the same team.
If that happens and Zero is a solo this round,we are definitely screwed.

I actually have some suspicions but...I'm not sure about saying them publicly.

Lucky glanced over at Neptune with concern

Hey now Neptune, you're starting to act like that Ami girl over there...before she went all comatose on us. Just calm down a little bit, we still got time.

He tipped his hat up and stood up, a fresh resolve in his face.

Last round was a disaster but the next round of betting progresses regardless.

Now, there's more to be talked about. Did folks find anything in their respective rooms back there?

Lucky nodded an understanding giving Jumpfight a foul look briefly

I understand full well what you mean, get it out of your system. We all get outplayed at one point or another, going all in when the foe has a Royal Flush, but we've still got to finish this game at the least.

Folks have their thoughts, mayhaps give them some credit instead of saying they are outright wrong from the get-go.

Lucky shrugged and went back to catching some shuteye.

Yeah, sorry. I shouldn't be so dismissive

You guys can vote for what you want but you'll probably come to the conclusion of "Huh. These all appear to be extremely shitty options. I don't know how to proceed." So...trust in ol' Jesus and choose Option A :pearl:

Pierre/Slezak, there is literally not a single option that won't end in a double betray for you guys. However, I can remedy this. Others seem to be in similar situations

Come Phase 2, I will inspire trust in all of you. It'll be beautiful

Lucky nodded to himself quietly

I've decided. Been mulling it over and going back and forth, but I'm gonna shuffle my options one last time.

UNVOTE OPTION A

VOTE OPTION B
