For those that don't know, the game is simple:

1.) The game starts with a word.
2.) Take that word's last syllable, and use it as the first syllable in a new word.
3.) Failure to continue the chain or accidentally breaking the chain means a new word is chosen.
4.) Don't use the same word twice in the same chain.

Example:

Person A: Promise
Person B: Mystery
Person C: Refurbish
Person D: Bishie

The first word:

Thirty.

Current chain length: 3
Hi score: 15

Link provided just in case I would have otherwise been accused of making up a word. On that note, are proper nouns acceptable?

Are we also using the rule of "If it ends with an N, you lose"?

I didn't know that was a rule. I was introduced to Shiritori via Nichijou, and I thought the losing condition was "superman" as opposed to "supermen".

I learned shiritori from GALS! and ending with N was one of the rules.

Silver. Is that acceptable? In my accent, the "sil" in "tonsil" and the "sil" in "silver" are pronounced differently. I'm assuming my word's okay, if only because the "ton" in "phytoplankton" and the "ton" in "tonsil" are also pronounced differently in my accent.

I didn't know there were people who didn't pronounce the "i" in "Salisbury Steak."

I'll go with "steakhouse" as my word. If the chain ended, then I guess that word starts the new chain.

I'll accept that, then. It's probably just me.

Actually, my word was part of the previous chain. So now we work off of your word. Thanks for the initiative. ^_^ I'll work off of your word.

For those curious, the reason for the "N" rule in Japanese Shiritori is because there aren't any Japanese words that start with a simple N syllable.

Theory.

Admittedly, the "th" in "Edgeworth" and "theory" is devoiced while the "th" in "worthy" is voiced, but I suspect it's a small enough difference that it's acceptable--though this could have implications for other voiced/devoiced pairs of consonants (or groups of consonants in the case of "th").

How did you get the "gest" in "gesture" from the "gist" in "entomologist?" Those are two very different vowel sounds (or they are in my accent, at least).

Well, whether the chain is broken or not, here's my word (and IPA just in case there's any confusion about whether or not it applies in my accent):

Churning.

Gesture: dʒesˈtʃəɹ
Churning: tʃəɹˈnɪŋ
