Well, remember the end of that case. When Matt is sentenced guilty (after you show the video proof to deKiller), he scratched himself. So maybe that is him who did that to himself. He's strange and evil enough to do that.
But during that case, he always had them. So he scratched himself, before that case.

= not guilty.I think that Matt Engarde had a previous history of self-harm. The scars on his eye and forehead prove that it isn't some kind of plot device he just picked up prior to 2-4 - he's obviously been doing it before. Some of it left scars, but everything else has healed up pretty well - at least, that's my take on it. There are no cuts on his arms or neck, just his face. If he did scratch himself on his arms they must have healed up pretty nicely, too - but I doubt he did, because on the set, he had to handle big, scary samurai weapons!
If he ever scratched himself off the set of Nickel Samurai, I can only imagine what Adrian's reaction would be.
