The AA6 Twitter campaign was a success, and as a result Capcom has released a special promo anime for AA6!

Take a gander at it over here; subs will be added.
Hi! I've largely stepped back from C-R due to life stuff. Please contact one of the other staff members for help!

That was awesome! I can't wait for the subs so I can understand that bit with the pork buns and what the person at the end is saying, but otherwise it was actually pretty easy to follow along.

Can anyone screenshot the bit with Phoenix's suitcase popping open at the airport? I caught that he has a deck of playing cards (a reference to AA4, perhaps?) but not much else.

Rough (1:30 AM) translation:

Quote:
In the far west of Asia, there is a country of mysticism and faith -
The Kingdom of Kurain.

The teachings of the Kurain faith lead the people, and the divine protection of their founder protects them.

However... this country has changed.

Guard: Prosecutor! We've captured a revolutionary trying to flee.
Nayuta: Quieter. It will not do to disturb the temple.
Guard: I'm terribly sorry...

Nayuta: Pitiful revolutionary... cast away your ego and submit to the judgment of the court. If you do, you may yet be taken under our founder's wing, and your soul spared.
Rebel: Hah! The judgment of the court? What the hell kind of worthless court only passes down guilty verdicts!?
Nayuta: ...You wear the eye of the dragon. Then you are a remnant of the attorneys?
Guard: Yes! He was wearing a second as well.
Nayuta: Honored founder. As your humble servant, I shall aid the soul of this sinner. This too is karma.

Phoenix: OBJECTION!
Phoenix: At the time of the crime, these pork buns were frozen. It's entirely possible they were used as a weapon to bludgen the victim!
Blackquill: SILENCE!
Blackquill: There's no proof the buns were frozen, Wright-dono. Isn't that right?
Athena: Fine! Then we'll dig up some evidence and prove it to you!
Judge: It seems this trial must continue tomorrow.
Blackquill: Heh. Do as you wish.
Athena: Just you wait, Prosecutor Blackquill! We're gonna finish this!
Blackquill: Hmph. You took the words out of my mouth.

Apollo: Good work in there! Just a little bit more...
Phoenix: Well, that's Prosecutor Blackquill for you. He won't go down without a fight.
Athena: Then let's get to it and knock him out once and for all! Let's do this!
Monita: I'm hungry...
Athena: Hey! Monita!
Phoenix: Haha! How about we head back to the office and take a bit of a break first?
Athena: Yeah...

Athena: Oh! The cherry blossoms are all blooming!
Athena: Come to think of it... Ms. Maya's training should be finished soon, right?
Phoenix: Yeah, it should.

Bokuto: That's time!
Bokuto: Well done!
Maya: Well, it's still freezing in there! ButI just gotta keep at it.
Bokuto: That's right! Another five minutes and you'll have passed the "Kurain Spirit Channeling Special Training Course!"
Maya: Alright. Then next time I'll do even better! After all, how can I be a village chief if I haven't finished my training?
Bokuto: Village chief... you're kind of like a princess!
Maya: Just like yours, right? What's she like?
Bokuto: She's absolutely wonderful!

Woman: No - no, that's wrong!
Judge: The princess' oracle has passed judgment.
Woman: I didn't do it!
Leifa: Do you question my readings? The nerve!
Judge: There is no room for argument. I will now declare the verdict: GUILTY!

Woman: Please! Give me an attorney!
Leifa: There is no need for attorneys in this country. The orcale of spirits tells all.
Woman: That's...
Judge: You know very well that the attorneys of this country were found guilty of the crime of defense and wiped out.

Apollo: I'm Apollo Justice, and I'm fine!
Athena: I'm Athena Cykes, and I'm fine too!
Apollo: Alright, one more time!
Athena: Alright!
Maya: Long time no talk, Nick! I got through another level of training today!
Phoenix: Is that so. You must be getting pretty close to finishing your training.
Maya: Yep! And when I do, you should come to vis-...?
Man: ...You!
Bokuto: Maya!

Nayuta: O unenlightened, hapless man.
Man: Who the hell are you?
Nayuta: Lay down your arms. Our founder may yet overlook your sins.
Man: As if!

Maya: Thank you...
Nayuta: Traveler... please be more cautious in the future. May our founder's blessings be upon you.
Bokuto: Are you okay?
Maya: Who was that...? ...Oh, shoot! Nick'll be on his way!

Phoenix: Maya? Maya!
Phoenix: Apollo, I'm going out.
Apollo: Where?
Phoenix: To the far ends of Asia!

Figure: It seems a dragon has arrived in this country. And with him, a new wind begins to flow.

[Note: Phoenix's JP name has the kanji for "dragon" in it.]

Anyway I'm dead tired and I'm sure there are mistakes in this, so I'll add subs in the morning once people with better Japanese and sleeping habits correct my inevitable mistakes.

My reactions:

Of course Yamazaki would turn attorneys into a revolutionary army XD.

I wasn't expecting a Blackquill cameo (Now I wonder what the case was about. I hope we get it as a DLC or something.) Athena, don't eat the murder weapon!

Hey, Maya fanservice.

And we finally know what brings Phoenix to Kurain.

Holy moly 8 mins. Honestly, that was pretty good. Nice cameo by Blackquill, didn't see that coming.

Let's hope the plane doesn't crash or some shit, since Phoenix's running after Maya he thinks may be in trouble. Bridge to the Turnabout vibes :nick-sweat:

Noticed he's got a sleep mask on the plane, like in PLvsPWAA. Nick sure does love dem Z's on his flights.

I'm worried about Apollo's involvement in the game. They're calling him a dual protagonist but he only had two lines in the prologue and the latest stream he was hardly in it.

Th-the second scenario... I cringed so hard I had a spasm. Turnabout Combination was the beginning of a terrible trend in official fanfiction.

I AM STILL CRINGING HELP I CAN'T MOVE but I also really want to see how they go...

Welp, at least this means we might not be seeing Maya as defendant in a case in the main game, if they're making her a defendant here. Interesting that they've come with 2 different scenarios for the CD. What a deal.

Ah... the anime prologue is looking nice.

Edit: Dang, we blew that Twitter campaign sky high. They've even considered adding Maya to the list of phone icons & wallpaper.

Bolt Storm wrote:

I'd like to ask about this. I swear I hear her say "shuuryo", not "shuugyou", so shouldn't it be "trip" and not "training"? Though, I suppose it wouldn't really matter since they're both referring to the same thing.

Quote:
Maya: Who was that...? ...Oh, shoot! Nick'll be on his way!

I'm sure she said "Oh, no... Did Nick hear that?"

Yes, and that's one ticket down. Now to hear from the rest...

Do you (or anyone else) know if this is the actual cutscene that will be in the game, or is this a special bonus movie that's an extra?

I find it a "bit" over the top that defense attorneys were literally wiped out and there's a graveyard for them in Kurain.

That's a lot of animation in either case. Too long for the game intro, but at the same time too long just for a promo.

Okay, I did not expect

Spoiler:
an Attorney Purge, and also an Attorney Resistance/Rebellion force. That's two lawyer games this year that have revolutionaries as a plot point. And the first one had birds.

Also, thank goodness Maya's safe! Though now I'm somewhat bummed that the trailer lied to me about that, but hey, trailers do that. I gotta admit, that's a pretty adorable reason for Nick to go to Kurain (though it being adorable's probably because I know Maya's safe, but I'd totally freak out if the last thing I heard on a phone call with a close friend or loved one is a frightened scream).

Also, mysterious lightning silhouette man!

On another note, what is that pork bun murder case, is that gonna be playable?

Also, that scene where Phoenix packs up and leaves for Kurain reminded me of a scene in Hot Fuzz. Heck, I could see it be an Edgar Wright-esque montage if it were a little bit longer.

I'm sure it was mentioned above, but this whole anime prologue is not in the game, guys. It's an extra they came up with for the campaign. It's an optional scene, so any details to whatever case involving deadly pork buns may or may not be canon.

In any case, this doesn't prove that Simon is actually returning for this game yet, but it does suggest a higher likelihood.

I felt like offering a few notes/suggestions. Feel free to ignore me for the prick I am~

--The Japanese specifically notes Kurain as a country of "spirit mediums"; you translated the word as "mysticism." Given the story, it might be worth being more literal here.
--Perhaps "support" the people instead of "lead"
--"you may yet be taken under our founder's wing [...]" is more literally "by the founder's grace [...]." Not sure if this is a mistake or a deliberate change to make it sound more natural, but... *shrug* Given the dragons/butterflies/tiger stuff that keeps showing up, I would be wary about adding a bird metaphor to his speech.
--"What the hell kind of worthless court only passes down guilty verdicts!?" is more literally "What's the point of a court that only passes down guilty verdicts" (or, more loosely, "The verdict of some kangaroo court means nothing!"). I feel that your translation doesn't really flow with the rest of the conversation here.
--"Yes! He was wearing a second as well." is incorrect--it should be "Another also had the Eye of the Dragon affixed to his shirt." (he's talking about the second guy who shows up later in the animation.)
--More literally, the founder's telling him to save their souls. I dunno. Your call on whether to go loose or not. That said, I'd go with "fate" here, not "karma"; I feel like "karma" implies the wrong thing.
--Right before the Engrish, more literally, Athena says they should go "find some evidence," not "knock [Blackquill] out." Your translation doesn't really make much sense, considering that they can't go straight back into the courtroom >_>
--Speaking of, Athena's Engrish usually got turned into some European language, IIRC.
--Man I could not figure out what Widget was saying for the life of me. gj >_>
--Monitaa is "Widget" in English.
--I am 95% certain it's 5本, not 5分. (c.f. when Maya's talking to Phoenix about it later)
--I've been referring to the 姫巫女 as the Vestal Princess in English. Feel free to crib that, if you want. I dunno.
--Leifa probably needs to sound more archaic.
--Maya's stuff over the phone isn't literal, but I'm sure you know that <_< I might recommend doing something with the それでね's and stuff, rather than leaving them out, though.
--No "seems" at the end; Mystery Man is very confident in his prophecy.

*reads rest of topic*

I definitely hear 修業 at the one point, and 来てくれるかな later.

I definitely hear 修業 at the one point, and 来てくれるかな later.

This could make sense as a figurative way to say it. Finding more evidence = knock BQ out (tomorrow).

Otherwise I have no idea lol.

I definitely can't wait to see the subs on this one.

Also, this may be a stretch, but I really want to see a dub of this prologue as well! it would be great to see it included in a U.S. release of the Ace Attorney 6 game! :athena:

Still haven't got an official English title of the game yet. Didn't that happen when GS5 was announced?
Also, can we get a set of pictures of the airport montage please?
Like the creator of Final Fantasy, I'm better at telling a story.

No, that announcement came later. It came shortly later, but still later.

I don't think anyone has summed up my thoughts so perfectly ever.
Also I lied and just read the translations as I watched. I'm too impatient for subs.

That's a lot of animation in either case. Too long for the game intro, but at the same time too long just for a promo.

Yeah, that's why I was curious. It seemed really long for an in-game thing, but also too long to be something that they'd just never release if they didn't get enough tweets.

I suspect they had it planned for the game originally, given the amount of attention put into it, but later decided to keep it out and leave it to a campaign to decide whether or not to release it. I'd say, was there any doubt that the goal would be met? They already built up so much hype with Maya's appearance during the stream. Still, 55500+ tweets within two weeks is impressive any way you look at it.

I wonder if the actual game will have its own anime intro. AA5's first scene was an anime introduction after all. Perhaps the game's prologue is spoilerly?

A lot of these (like the "knock Blackquill out" bit) were pseudo-localizations because my brain was turning over and failing to find a good way to word a literal translation. (Of course, some of the other lines are straight-up literal translations, so here we are.)

There's definitely some mistakes you've caught though! The whole bit with Maya at the waterfall and talking about the specifics of her training with Bokuto/Phoenix was going in one ear and out the other. Not entirely sure what 5本 is in this context, though. Training scrolls/ceremonies, maybe? :yogi:
