Trailer 2

Project Details

Sai Manor: Ace Attorney is an fan film that I am currently making. Once it is done, it will be uploaded to my YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/MultiPhoenixWright

UPDATE: I'll also upload full cases to my Vimeo channel.

The film will be in widescreen, with 1080p HD support. The animations will be as smooth as the ones seen in Dual Destinies (except in 2D).
I can confirm that two cases will eventually be uploaded to YouTube. If I have enough free time, I might make three more cases later on.

Many gameplay elements from the Ace Attorney games will feature in this film, including Psyche-Locks and Revisualiztion.

Synopsis and Episodes

The story takes place the during the Apollo Justice Era, after the events of Dual Destinies. Basically, this follows rookie attorney Sai Manor as he defends his clients in his first trial.

Episode 0 - Night Before Turnabout
It's the night before Sai Manor's first trial, and he's really nervous. So nervous, that he finds himself in the middle of a "dream" trial against Gaspen Payne.

[June 2015]Episode 1 - Turnabout Debut
In his first trial, Sai Manor must defend his close friend Rachel Frost in a battle against Gaspen Payne, the famed "Rookie Humiliator." Sai's brother, esteemed FBI Agent Ashu Manor, assists him in court.

Looks good. I would really like a PW animation without sprites, and this looks cool!

Thanks! Are you sure you're up for it? 'cause this is made in 1080p and all that, so it's quite different from normal sprite making.

The art style looks unique and fluid. Also, what engine are you making this on?

Since this is a 2D animated ace attorney style video/movie, I'm using flash as a basis for this. If the people want it, I guess I could ask someone to make it an actual game after everything is finished.

Right now I'm basically working on the script for Turnabout Demo, since it's for a school project. My animation teacher has also agreed to help me with this project, since he knows his stuff.

Hm... Well, it would be a bit boring for it to be a film.
You can use the sprites, backgrounds and the foregrounds on PYwright. But PYwright doesn't really support 1080p and the text will be a bit non-HD-ish.

If I used an engine like PyWright or PWLib, would I have to convert the assets to match the DS resolution?

Pretty much. Unless Saluk releases a HD PYwright port. (Which I highly doubt.)

I made a short announcement trailer. It's not much, but it does contain some actual footage (aka NOT mockups). You can view that here

I would appreciate it a lot if you gave feedback, on anything

Post subject:  Re: Sai Manor: Ace Attorney (TRAILER!)

I updated the OP with some extra info on the characters and Episode 2, which is confirmed, since I'm allowed to continue the project through 2015.

In development news, I'm practically finished with Sai's sprites. The only sprite left now is his "breakdown" sprite (similar to the one where phoenix holds his head in his hands). That'll probably be done in the next few days. I'll probably make a video showcasing all of Sai's sprites and animations. After that, I'll tackle Gaspen Payne's sprites next.

Speaking of animations, I'd like to clarify on the "smooth" animations I mentioned when I first announced the project. The smoothness of the animations is much better than the 3-5 frame animations of the GBA/DS, but not quite close to the silky smoothness of Dual Destinies. You'll see what I mean when I make that video I mentioned. :hobohodo:

In the meantime, have a screenshot (with a typical line from ace attorney)

Is Sai supposed to have a pocketwatch? It's missing in the screens but there in your avatar.

I decided to add the necklace after most of the sprites were made, and i didn't feel like changing every single frame of everything to match the official art, but yeah.

The necklace is where Sai gets his "lawyer power" from. I currently have no clue what this power will be. I had an idea where Sai could detect the heart of the witness, but then Capcom announced Dual Destinies with the Mood Matrix, and the two ideas are basically the same thing. :larry:

The demo of Sai's sprites is now up on YouTube! Watch here

Most of the sprites are shown, the exceptions being the zoomed in sprites. Those weren't included because they're the same as the desk animations, but zoomed in.

I added a character profile for Rachel Frost, the defendant of the first case, to the OP. I also added a screenshot for Turnabout Debut.

Expect to see more character profiles like this for both episodes. I'll get around to updated the main characters with actual profile shots as well.

You might as well post them in the SFX thread, so others could use them in their fangames. Thanks for ripping!

Redesigned the logo to mimic the design of the Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney logo. I think it looks unique and sets it apart from the "classic" Ace Attorney logo.

Post subject:  Re: Sai Manor: Ace Attorney (New Logo)

First of all, I'd like to wish everyone a (late) happy new year! And now, the news:

I'd like to announce one more case: Night Before Turnabout. This is the "finished product" that I will show my teacher. Most of the assets from Turnabout Debut will be reused for this new case. Basically, Sai can't sleep the night before his first trial. When he does, he has a nightmare where he is in a trial against gaspen payne. This isn't really a serious trial, but it's more like the official TGS trials where everyone messes around and goes extremely off topic.

I'm about halfway through making the character sprites for Turnabout Debut. All of Gaspen Payne's sprites are finished, and I'm putting the finishing touches on Rachel Frost and the Judge's sprites. Once that's done, I can start finishing up this new case. Once that's done, it won't be long before this and Turnabout Debut will be uploaded to YouTube and Vimeo.

Thanks for the support!

This video was more of an animation test, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Psyche-Locks in the courtroom.

I have a quick question about casemakers like PyWright and PWLib.

Do they support scrolling from prosecution side to defense side?

It's hard to describe, but a sample scenario would be:

Quote:
Payne: Da prosecution is ready, yo honor.

*scrolls to defense side*

Sai: The defense is ready, your honor.

Is this supported on other casemakers?

Ask in Pywright/PWLib thread? ARE YOU MAKING A GAME OUT OF IT ASWELL??? (or was it always a game to begin with?)

Yes PyWright has some shortcut commands to do just that, as well as having a lot of power to go above and beyond. PyWright doesn't currently support alternative base resolutions to the DS original, although I'm hoping to add that in the near future.

Pretty sure PWLib is also just about powerful enough to do anything you could want.

Right now, a game version isn't in the works, but later on I'm considering either a PyWright or Flash port.

That's really good to hear! I might start working on a game version on the side once PyWright gets updated to support this.

I kinda sorta have an idea about what to do, but I'll have to keep exploring 'till i find a way.

Post subject:  Re: Sai Manor: Ace Attorney [Psyche-Locks + Thought Route!]

First draft of script is finished...boy it's really crazy. A little disclaimer: everyone is going to be out of character here, because this is Sais dream and we're viewing it from his perspective. For example, Gaspen Payne is going to not be egotastic, but is sort of like Manfred Von Karma because that's what Sai imagines his personality to be like.

Don't worry, all the characters will be normal in every other case

Now onto revising!
