Alright, so even though I have revealed my fangame's existence multiple times, I've never actually sat down and made a thread for it. The reason was that I wanted to finish the final version of the first case's demo, but I kind of feel like making one now so... here goes :butzthumbs: (sorry for the big picture people.. I’ll try to make it smaller at some point)

Phoenix Wright - Judgement and Determination

Image

So, as the boxart kinda tells, this is a fangame made entirely in Macromedia Flash. The project have been on and off going for some time now, but now that I finally have some time on my hands, and the project is well underway, I'll hopefully be able to wrap the demo up soon. Therefore, I thought I would make an actual official thread for my game :larry2:

The Game: Phoenix Wright – Judgement and Determination is a game that takes place between the events of Trials and Tribulations and Apollo Justice. It will involve 5 cases, all of which are taken place over a very short period of time (when compared to the fact that an official game usually stretches over a year or so). The game will be played much like the official Phoenix Wright games you know and love, although a few changes probably will be made. Apart from that, some now gameplay elements will be added to some of the cases. Although the game features Phoenix Wright as the main playable character, it will differ from the original trilogy in a lot of ways – both story- and gameplay wise. This is something I chose to do, because I see Trials and Tribulations as the perfect game to end the trilogy – and I want this fangame to distance itself from that trilogy. (I tend to look at the three official games as the “Fey Trilogy”. This fangame will, while it still features familiar characters, shake things up a bit, and some of the most expected and beloved characters of the AA universe might not even make an appearance in any of the cases.)

[Ace Attorney and all related characters are the property of Capcom, and I own none of the rights.]

Plot: The times have changed since your last encounter with Phoenix and his friends. Wright himself is finally starting to be acknowledged by the community, and the future of Wright and Co. Law Offices is starting to look pretty good. Maya Fey, who is now by the title of the Master of Kurrain, has once again left the offices for her spiritual training. Over all, things are looking good for Wright and Co. … or so it seems. But when Wright suddenly finds himself as the defense attorney in a case shredded in mystery, he is forced to look into the past he had finally putted behind him.

Characters: The game will feature a lot familiar characters: Phoenix Wright, Maya Fey, the Judge and Detective Gumshoe will all make multiple appearances throughout the cases. The game will, however, also feature a lot of original characters as well. I've already posted information about some of them, including:

“Nick” - A strange kid that appears in the very first case. Nick is a boy that claims to be Phoenix Wright's number one fan, and he is absolutely obsessed with Wright's objections!

Jack Lamber – The defendant of the first case and the guy whose name I stole. Apart from his physical appearance and the fact that he brings a friggin' axe to court, he seems like a really nice guy.

Matthew Coleman – A succesful prosecutor, tutor, author and assistant to the new chief prosecutor. Although he seems like the quiet type at first, he is a man who isn't afraid to voice his opinion, and he puts respect above all else. Although he acts kind and respectful, there is a strange intimedating aura surrounding him. Is he a good guy or a bad guy? Not even Phoenix Wright is sure.

Ashford Coleman – The other prosecutor. Although he's the brother of Matthew Coleman, he is basically the complete opposite of his brother. He is very insecure in his own abilities, and with good reason, as he tends to screw everything up. He is, however, a very polite, lively and friendly person, who looks up to the strong, confident types.

*Ahem*

The game will have a total of 5 cases:

Turnabout Picnic: A man has been arrested for a murder that occurred inside a forest, and it is once again Phoenix Wright’s job to prove this man’s innocence. But due to some complicated matters, the identity of the victim haven’t been revealed to Phoenix, and to make matters even worse, somebody seems to have emptied Phoenix’s court records before the start of the trial! It is now up to him to prove his client’s innocence with no evidence at hand when the trial starts, and at the same time babysit a boy that claims to be a big fan of Phoenix. Will Phoenix Wright be able to overcome these obstacles and find a way to the truth in the end?

Turnabout Judgement: After having attended to the annual Law and Judgement Award Show, Phoenix and Maya discovers a dead body in one of the cabins on the train they were heading home with. As other events starts to unfold that evening, Phoenix Wright discovers that he is tied up in these affairs as well, as the defendant turns out to be a familiar face..

Turnabout Reminiscence: TBA

Turnabout Determination: TBA

Turnabout Families: NTBA (lol)

Requests: At the moment I am working on the first case. The final script is about 45% done, and I would really appreciate it if anyone would volunteer to either help me out with writing it or just reading it through. If any of you music makers feel like it, I would be a dream come true if you would help me make some original songs for the game. If not, I’ll find a way to use the original soundtracks, but some new tracks would really help freshen up the atmosphere I think :larry2: When the script is done and I am putting the final touches on the demo, I would like to request for some beta testers as well. But for now, such a request isn’t necessary.

Demo: I am currently working on the final version on the demo for the first case, Turnabout Picnic. The demo will basically be the first half of the entire case, and it will involve multiple testimonies that you’ll have to tear apart. Right now, only v. 0.3 is available for download and it can be downloaded either by clicking on the banner in my signature, or by using this link:
http://www.4shared.com/get/NpHfnKv7/Pho ... ey_-_.html
Here you’ll see how the final demo will differ from the one that’s currently available:

Image

Save/load feature: As seen above, the final demo will have an “Continue” button. As you play the game, there will be several “invisible” checkpoints where the game will autosave. At this point in time, the “continue” button will instantly take you to the last checkpoint you came across, but an additional button will be added later, where you’ll be able to start your game at any of the previous checkpoints as well.

Image

No more cheating: One of the things about the flash player is that you can manually stop, play or skip frames in a flash movie/game either by right clicking on the screen, or by using the menu tabs. This will allow players to manipulate the game, and possibly skip dialogue, contradictions, etc. The final demo will disable all that, including the hotkey functions as well. Hurray!

Image

A better looking intro: Although I am still not entirely satisfied, the movie at the beginning of the case already looks a lot better than it did back when I released v. 0.3 of the demo.

Image

Updated backgrounds: Before: All of the court room backgrounds were just slightly altered versions of the DS-backgrounds, with a blur effect on top. Now all of the backgrounds have been drawn from scratch, which is a pain to go through, but at least the ending result looks a lot nicer.

Image

Updated OC’s: Some of the characters like Nick and Jack Lamber were some of the first things I ever draw for this fangame. They needed a make-over real bad, so I’ve been busy making them look a bit nicer. Hope you’ll like the new versions ^^

Image

Animated characters: As you can probably tell from the picture above, mouth animations will be added in the final version, as well as blinking eyes. However, I’m still toying with it, so the animations in the final demo might be very different from the animations in the full version. Just wait and see :larry2:
Anyway, that’s it for now!

I remember downloading your demo from your sig a while ago... I also remember searching desperately for the topic but couldn't find it (I found out why now, lol). Anyway, I found it quite interesting! But.. if you're going to give us the tutorial (what the Court Record is), you might as well give a short self-introduction that every game has (it's completely your choice, of course).

Spoiler: Nick
I found Nick to be a refreshment in the so far series. This should be good, but I think you could add a bit more talk in the courtroom when it comes to him being the helper.

Also, there are a couple of bugs (some textboxes are placed a little bit off the edge of the screen, same with the benches - though I think it only happened once).

The drawings are also amazing! I had to say that. You're very talented!
Uh.. Let's see... What else.... What else...
Uhhh.. the initial talk in the court might be just a tad bit longer before the opening statement. But maybe that's just me. (I can sometimes be nitpicky.)

Honestly, there's not much to say. This IS a demo after all, and I can't really comment much on the writing because I don't know much about the crime so far. But I'll keep an eye on this. :hobohodo:
That one guy from AAO that made about a dozen cases that all kinda go off the deep end and fall apart at one point or another.

from what I have played so far (and from what I've read), it looks very promising :maya:
although I can't say that much yet, as I haven't played through a witness testimony yet. Because that's where it stops ;D
But I would say: keep up the good work (:

Thanks :larry2:! I just added the classic Phoenix Wright introduction like you suggested. Can't believe I forgot to do that :) Also I am thrilled that you seem to like Nick so far. I was afraid that people might not like him, so I made some changes to his dialouge and appearance in the version I am currently working on.. but it's great to hear that he's not that terrible in the currently available demo :P
As for more talk in the courtroom and more dialouge for Nick... well, I would love to add some more, but I really don't know what to add right now.. I guess I could add a couple of funnies here and there.
Anyway, I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the demo :) and being called "talented" really saved my day :P

Thank you! Yeah I know the demo ends in a pretty annoying way, but at the time I wanted to polish the first testimony as much as possible..

Anyway, look forward to some edits in the first post. I'll probably make the Plot and Character section more detailed. And then, of course, finish the final demo, which hopefully won't take too long.

It's been a month already!? Garh!
So far I haven't been able to do a whole lot.. Some new "sprites" has been drawn and some changes have been made to the script, but nothing major unfortunatly. I'm between jobs right now, and I am seeking down an apartment and stuff.. hopefully I'll be able to tell you guys tomorrow when you'll see some serious progress, and when you can expect the final demo, but it all depends on one very important phonecall. IRL stuff, you know? :gregory:
either way, this fangame is never on hold, it's just been progressing very slowly this month. I'll edit the original post soon with all sorts of goodies new information about the fangame, so you'll know what to expect.

And thank you for showing interest :) It means a lot to me and the fangame

I see. I was kind of worried for a second there... :)
Anyway, I can't wait for the demo. And as I always say: take your time. Everybody has a life in the background.

And it's what I do, my friend - games that peek my interest should never be left in the dust. (Unless the author buries it, or something.)

Just wanted to say that this project is still very much something I am working on weekly, although it is progressing very slowly right now. If all goes well, I should move into a new apartment next month, and after getting settled, I should hopefully be able to increase the progressing speed with about 800%.

I've also updated the first post with new/slightly edited information about the game, the plot, and the characters, where I've added a little more info about two of the most important OC's in the game: the prosecutors:

Image

Even though they might be brothers, they have no similarities to the Gavin brothers mind you! For those of you who don't know, the one in the black suit is Matthew and the one in the purple is Ashford. Here's the info about them that's also added to the first post:

Thanks to those of you who are showing interest. As soon as my everyday life is a little more stable, the fan game will return to it's former stable progressing speed.
