I have finally gotten around to releasing the Alpha version of my enigine. This version is just a mere example of the User Interface for the engine. Meaning there is absolutly 0 functionality. But don't worry, in my little free time I am hard at work trying to get methods and classes written to bring this beauty to life. Download the alpha version here. I'd like feedback on the UI from all of you. In the meantine, I will be spending most of my time writing the Sprite Library and the content file formats. Also, the "Import 3D Content" should be a hint at a future feature of the engine...

Edit: Note, this application only works with the Windows platform as of now. It also requires .NET Framework 2.0 and the XNA Framework.

Edit: Link fixed Bell Boy

Edit 3: Dear god I hate my servers...

Would you mind uploading it somewhere else? The link isn't working, and I'd like to try it out. Sadshoe

I just had a look. The interface looks very simple and easy to figure out - I want to see more!

That's, erm, 3 projects we have going on now?

How many case creators do you need?

The more the better. Each one is bound to have strengths and weaknesses. Variety is a good thing!

This is probably going to cause problems when people start releasing their fancases and people have to download all the different readers in order to play them all.

I don't really care though~

Erm, Implosion, like other people have said, the link is still dead.

Could you correct it, please?
My signature was so bad I removed it. But alas, when I become better in Photoshop, it'll return in full glory. =P

To every one here:
My server where I hosted the alpha got deleted, so I will re-upload it when I can find a reliable server. And to answer a statement in this thread, my case creator will not require a reader for the the cases. They will be written into standalone .exe's.
Once I have some more code written in my engine, I'll have the alpha back out, along with a preview into my file formats for the actual tool :D

Having cases compiled into stand-alone EXEs will be a waste of space, honestly. You should do what I'm doing; include the option to have them built into EXEs but also the option to have them loaded by the loader program.

I think it's quite obvious you'll be able to load them with the program. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to make a case effectively (It'd need to be done without saving. Quite silly). You could just send people the file it's saved to.

I think the EXE feature is just a nice little feature so that people can play the cases even if they don't have the program. Quite convenient, especially if you don't want people opening the case files and cheating :P

You wouldn't want to send the source files to people, rtsmarty. That's why the compiled games would be in a format that cannot be read. Then there's no cheating.

I think having EXE support is fine, except when you consider the fact the same game audio, sprites, and backgrounds, are in every case.

I'd say that having it as an Exe would be good for people who don't have the software, but wouldn't it be better if people could string several of their cases together and make an Exe of it? Like making their own game? ^_^

:O
I have a plan to take care of that. Lets just say that content isn't "held" in the exe ;)
As for people saying: "Standalone EXE's are good because you don't need to download the software."
You do need to download SOME software to get the basic games to work. These programs will be the .NET and XNA framework. For the Mac and Linux version it'll be Mono.NET and Mono.XNA.
