The Hidden Cases: Godot's Chapter

Hey there! Yeah, I've come back from death. The original fangame (Truth Above Everything) didn't make much sense as we worked on everything about it. It didn't have an actual story, the sprites weren't good, the cases weren't well-planed... In the end, it got annoying. So... we've remade it completely :godot: !

Story:
Some years after the events of Trials and Tribulations, Godot gets released from prison. Shortly after that, he gets involved in a series of seemingly unrelated cases. But... are they really not related? Or is there someone controlling them from the shadows? Join Godot to unveil the hidden truth of each case he'll face!
This game contains spoilers from the first Ace Attorney Trilogy, so I recommend playing them before jumping into this fangame.

Case 1: The Musical Turnabout
Image

Story: Klavier Gavin leaves the Gavinners to become a solitary musician, but in his first concert, his bodyguard is murdered and he's accused of murder. There's evidence that he committed the crime, and even a witness, the situation seems hopeless. Desperate, he calls the only person who can defend him at the time, Godot.

Spoiler: Case 1 Screenshots

Case 1 Progress:
Planning: 100% (100 pages of dialogue)
Spriting: 90%
Music: 100%
Coding: 80%

Thanks to:

Ropfa - For his amazing tutorials.
Cardiovore - Main inspiration.
Sean Chiplock - For providing the voice of Godot!

There we go! We're at 50% coding guys! We recently finished all the dialogues (in a Google Drive document, not in-game), so the only thing left is finish one character's sprites and finish the other 50% coding.

My guess is that in a month or maybe less, the first case will be ready :godot: ! This first case has 90 pages of dialogue, which isn't bad for a first case of only one trial without investigation. Anyways, I also wanted to say that I'll probably post some screenshots later, if my little mind doesn't forget :basil: .

One last thing, this is my first time creating a fangame (if you don't count the other one in which I only did half of an investigation before I scrapped the idea), so reviews would be appreciated so I can learn from my own mistakes :gant: !

And remember, reality is an illusion, the universe is a hologram, buy gold, byeeeee!

PD: Any tips on spriting? I mean, not as a concept, but on how to make them more AA-like. My sprites look to pixelated, probably from using the pencil tool and drawing pixel to pixel.

Well, I like this project a latte (sorry, I just had to), so I had to come back to it, but as I said, we changed the idea completely, and now it makes much more sense plot-wise.

Another really unexpected revival...we might as well make this thread the successor to the CoC thread!

You flatter me :bellboy:

I hope I can provide the community with some entertainmeny though. This is the first BIG project I do on Pywright. I've done a small case (really small), but never released it. But certainly never done something this big before. Right now I'm halfway through with this case, and finishing up spriting some things (I think spriting is one of the thing that takes me the longest, haha).

It's nice to see that there's actual progress. Also that you're actually doing sprites yourself, that's always good news when it comes to a fangame.

Yeah, I always think that making the sprites myself is much better, since it gives them my own personal touch :jake:

And, when I finish coding this into Pywright, I'll only need to make some changes, and the first version of Godot's Chapther will be uploaded here. But, for the next chapters, I'll probably release them bit by bit, since they are quite longer. :ron:

What do you think is the ETA at the moment?

I'll be happy to try it out when you finish it!

Hi bloozi

Anyway, one thing I'm eager to see are the penalty scenes. I presume it'll be Godot trying to justify himself with some vague nonsense, but the judge sees through it and penalises him.

Who's the prosecutor anyway? Payne?

And is this Case post AJ?

Yep, the case is post Apollo Justice.

In this case, the prosecutor is Payne.
But... I can't tell you who the prosecutor is in the other cases yet ;)

One piece I would give would be with the case selection art. The resizes don't exactly look... stellar, I'm afraid. (Ema and the overlooking figure can pass relatively well, but Klavier and Godot, a bit less so.)

Also, if this is post-AJ, why are the court backgrounds in the screenshots the old ones? Style or?
That one guy from AAO that made about a dozen cases that all kinda go off the deep end and fall apart at one point or another.

THE CASEART WAS NOTICED. Okay, now seriously. Yeah, I need to work on a replacement. This one was done VERY early on, and the JPEG is noticeable. But fear not, I am going to change it, probably within the following week or so.

And well, I chose the Trials and Tribulations background because of Godot. I thought it would be more fitting because of him, but I really don't have any problems in changing it if the majority of people prefer the AJ one.

I think the different backgrounds are actually meant to represent the court looking different afer the time skip in-universe, so yeah the AJ backgrounds would probably be more fitting.

And here we go! Progress is being done again now that it's summer and I have free time again (finals and summer homework finished ;D )!

We're back on track fully! First of all, I'd like to make a list of the changes we've been able to do for the moment:
-Improved a bit of the story dialogues to make them more entertaining!
-Fixed some small annoying errors I had (not much, but annoying nonetheless)
-We've got Godot's voice clips (finally!). Sean Chiplock provided us with the voice clips (He's an amazing person, and I'll be eternally grateful for the incredible job he did with them!)
-I've progressed a bit with scripting (and now that I'm free, much more progress will be done).
