NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO speaking of which, do you use the Court macro or the usual PyWright coding?

Standard PyWright coding.

As is standard for me to say when discussing the validity of Pearl Fey: Ace Attorney ~ Juvenile Court as a fangame, I will say:

"The intent is to establish an unorthodox setting, comical premise and juvenile tone to present a qualitatively serious and full-sized Ace Attorney game that derives style from a humorous premise and a juxtaposition between the simplicity and superficiality standard for grade school children with the complexity of an Ace Attorney case and characters."

Even despite the humorous implications of the premise and such, however, some people have noted that thanks to the simultaneous attempt to present a legitimate and serious story, using the proposed comedy and ostensibly silly premise as a thematic and stylistic base, within the Ace Attorney universe, designating the city as "Japanifornia" seems a bit silly, and so to maintain consistency with the Ace Attorney canon, renaming it to the canonical "California" seems more fitting.

Popular decision wins. Do we persist with "Japanifornia" or do we change it to "California"?

Is it even necessary to choose one or the other? Most of the games got by without specifically naming the setting.

If I recall correctly, the school itself was named after the setting, which could pose a problem... but in that case, I think having the school be named for the entire state of California would be kinda weird anyway.

Definitely back up all of your files and folders on a site like Dropbox or Google Drive. That way if anything ever happens to your computer, all of your stuff will still forever be on the cloud.

I gotta say that out of the fangames I have seen currently in production, this one holds some of the most promise. Hope you're able to get everything back on track again... Looking forward to playing it!

My team has chided me well enough for not having the foresight to back it up before, aha... Thank you for reminding me, though, because even then, I still have yet to back it up despite the files being more than up-to-date now.

On a positive note, the files getting cleaned out gave me the incentive to clean out outdated information and work on dialogue that was certainly something of a fix-upper, so whether you wanna call it a silver-lining or a blessing in disguise, it definitely did work out.

Thanks very much! Having loved your fangame, knowing that you're looking forward to PF:AA is a big motivator. I still hope the game meets your generous expectations.

You'd think that. I'm still in the process of trying to get a demo together.

I may as well show off some sprites and screenshots for the sake of showing that progress *is* actually being made, though.

Most of the sprites were separated from their sheets for the sake of conserving space.

Yeah, sorry. I pulled an old screenie. The new line, typo fixed, is "This Payne is being a bit of a wet blanket, so what say we go and run her right through the wringer?".

Perfect hands are super damn hard. I don't think I've seen a fan sprite (that isn't a frankensprite made of official sprites) with perfect hands yet

I was referring to the anatomy, since it's a good looking sprite, but I get your point.

Spoiler:
I hate drawing hands too sometimes.

It actually is.

For a little while I was struggling with how I would actually Pearl as an attorney; a lot of humor is derived from Nick, Athena and Apollo's internalized snark, but, of course, that just wouldn't work with little miss Pearl Fey. I rather recently came to the conclusion that the alternative would be to have a lot of humor derived from attorney Pearl being rather easy to tease and bully in the situation she's been put in, or how overly serious can be at her own expense. Though dialogue still due for a bit of polish, I hope these about show what I mean well.

So uh

I went and translated this

I'm no Spaniard but I am from a Spanish speaking country

Spoiler: 1
Fantine: "La acusación no está..." "...por admitir no estar preparada!"

Perla: "(Eh!? Enserio pensé que iba a decir que no estaba preparada! Que cuca...!)"

Perla: "..."

Perla: "(Pero tu empezaste!)"

Perla: "(Pero... O sea, yo no dije nada...!)"

In the PWAA translations they kept "Pearl" but here I'm changing it to "Perla" (pretty much the Spanish word for "pearl")

Translating PyWright cases? Did you run across a problem with displaying diacritical signs? I wrote about it here. And did you, by any chances, find a way to solve it?

Btw update: all visual assets of the first case of PFAA are complete. Expect the demo of the first case of the game to come out about fall-ish.

Lol, I'm pretty sure many fangames were canceled because of coding too.

Huh, always thought it was cuz of writing block/lack of visual assets. Either way, we have gifs so if no one wants to wrangle the beast called PyWright guess we use AAO since its easier

Post subject:  Re: Pearl Fey ~ Ace Attorney - Juvenile Court

Weirdly enough, coding is the easiest part for me, probably because I'm a computer science major and it's what I work with.

Still, cool to see that this is still going well.

Post subject:  Re: Pearl Fey ~ Ace Attorney - Juvenile Court

Quick update, if not the demo the entire first case should be expected this Autumn. Along with a full release of the first case, this thread will receive a massive update, cleaning up and removing outdated information in the summary, case descriptions and character profiles to be replaced with information that is more accurate to the game in its current state.

This includes the clearing up of now extraneous information in the summary (Pearl is no longer the founder of the Japanifornia Elementary School Court, Shamus is) and expanding on Clarka, Vandal, Lexi and Shamus's profiles. Turnabout Heroine's, and later each subsequent case's summaries will also be more telling about the crimes at hand.

Screenshots will also be uploaded prior to the case's release.
