Hello guys !

Im' not sure if it's the good place to explain this (I'm new here), but I think I found what exactly マニィコーチン (the japanese version of Manny Coachen) means.

I think it's from an french expresion "ma nicotine" (my nicotine). It remind me about a character from another game called samuraï spirits (samurai shodown), Caffein Nicotine (http://snk.wikia.com/wiki/Nicotine_Caffeine).

In japan, people love to use english or french languages in whatever (and sometimes in inappropriate) situations.
I strongly think it's meant for "ma nicotine" in this case [GK. case n°5]. :udgey:

Erm...I'm not really sure what this has to do with him, though. He wasn't even a drug smuggler. He was a counterfeiter.

I don't know but when I read the meaning of his japanse name ("Maybe comes from "money." Coachen may come from cochin, a type of rooster."), that didn't seem very relevant but I aggree with you that if he wasn't related to any drug or even cigarette, tabaco etc.. that wouldn't mean anything either.

However, the pronunciation is too much close to be a mere coincidence. I will continue to play. I'm on this case actualy in the game and the name of this character appeared.
If the french language was not so often used in pun or anything in the japanese language noawadays, I would doubt it too.

Did a bit of poking around on Japanese Google, someone suggested his name is meant to be a pun of "Money Cochin" cochin being a kind of chicken. So a cowardly counterfeiter maybe?

The problem is how it's spelled.
For exemple, "money" is spelled in katakana like this : マニー

and "nicotine" like this : ニィコーチン
...and the whole name : マニィコーチン.
Nicotine looks like more the 2nd part. Money lacks the "ー" part. :udgey:

However, it is possible there are two meaning. One with Cochin, and one other with "nicotine". a kind of double pun.

AA pun names tend to forego traditional spellings in favor of phonetic sounds. Makes the puns a lot less obvious. For example, money would usually be spelled like マネー but マニィ still makes a close ebough sound.

Nicotine would actually be spelled as ニコチン

It's pretty rare. Until now,the puns were always obvious. Beside that, japanese would notice the seeming with another expression.
