I'm been trying to chase people down to warn for this, but it's more widespread than I thought. So here's a general warning for those I missed.

Stop cutting and pasting "greetings" into people's introduction threads.

I'm glad you're all so eager to welcome the new people. But by just slapping in a generic hello all you're doing is upping your post count without actually contributing anything. It wouldn't be any different if you were C&Ping in any other section of the forum. It's just silly and kinda fake, really.

Especially the self promotional ones ("Hi, I'm such-and-such, come post in my thread"). It's post-begging and it's not fair to the new people to use their introductions as your advertisement.

So please, either say something welcoming and *personalized* or just refrain.

Or I might just have to come up with a new avatar punishment. :hotti:

Yikes!!! :ack: I never really noticed, but I do the same thing!!! I don't copy and paste, but I do seem to type the same intro greeting every now and then!!! I agree though that people do need to stop copying and pasting welcomes and start posting something more personal!!! Thanks for bringing this to our attention though!!! I really appreciate it!

Ja, used to do it, realised, stopped. Good thinking Croik. As a new member, you think they are personal, until you snoop around other intro topics.
I did like that Tardis picture though...

:ack: NO, NOT MY LOUISE AVVY!!

Good thing I'm not guilty of this C&P evilness you speak of. That certainly is motivation to keep ME in check. I mean, if people see an ugly avatar in MY posts, they're gonna think I'M ugly!! [/vain]

Tell me about it. That's why I personalize each of my welcome messages instead of just C&P-ing.

I never copy and paste any of my greetings. I generally welcome the new members and comment on things we may have in common based on what was typed in the introduction. Glad to see the new rule. It would sure make the new members feel more welcome when the comments are personalized.

Does this rule count for the Birthday thread too? I try to reword what I say, but I run out of ideas on how to say Happy Birthday.

Question: Can I write original welcome messages, but post one thing that's alike in all of them?

:zenitora:
I tend to C&P a greeting when I've been typing for hours, but don't want to seem like a snob.

I'm glad I saw this, now.

Come to think about it, I just remembered that I DIDN'T introduce myself in here.... I do not have an introduction topic like the newcomers that I've welcomed as at this stage. Anyway is there a penalty for not making an intro for myself?

I don't think so. Of course, it's a nice gesture so people can get to know you better.

WRONG!! Who told you the Payne-atar is the female version, huh?!?

The Payne-atar is really Payne from GS2, but the person who edited the sprite made him shirtless.

It was posted somewhere on the forum boards but is now buried underneath all new posts so as a person with more than 3000 posts, am sorry that I can't find the pic to be posted here.

I only saw buff Payne and Nekkid Lady Payne on Naked E/W Icon Day.
Then again that was the Invisionfree Version from last year.
(Oh, and GS2 Payne = GS1 Payne.)

The only images I could find where those when your signature is too big. They look like this:

And even here I am not sure if those are all...

I can contribute well without saying the generic hello. In real life, I always say hi to everyone I meet, even if I don't get anything in return. I'm good at extending conversation and stimulating a discussion even when the topic goes bland, that's how i'll contribute. But from here on, I'll stop using the word contribute and just say "add".

Post subject:  Re: C&P-ing in this section

I don't like generic greetings... The "hello... Boodbye" they are kinda.... Hmm... They just don't make someone feel too welcome... I can sence taht they'd be upping their post count... Almost... Can Perceive them doing it -Snikker- (Couldn't resist)...

I always type a paragraph or so saying my hello's and such, I just love commenting and talking, it feels good to cheer someone up, or compliment... Or receive them of course...

I agree... BRING ON THE PAYNE!!!.... A TAR!!.... Yeah *cough*... I'm curius... As are lots of people... But also wary... But I think there really should be an avatar punishment... It would be hilarius, and the shame of having it, mixed with the shame of peopel knowing you did something wrong.. It's incentive to read and follow the rules.. Is it not? I'm tottaly Pro-Payn-A-Tar.... :odoroki:

How interesting, I move of a forum for being unfriendly and doing exactly this, and return. to a forum which is friendly and actually forbidding this type of action. I'm impressed at my luck, for once.

The forum I used to be on always did this. Even the mods. In fact, we had a group of mods called *The greeters* who's job it was to greet new members. This is what they did. ALL the time. In essence, they could not even do one simple thing with variety. It was odd, to be sure.

A bit of a necropost, but I have a proposal. If you're worried people may copy and paste greetings too much, why don't you just do the same thing as the BBC and just basically make your posts here not count toward your total? It would certainly get rid of those who only reply to increase post count, methinks.
