I have liked the shittiest bands in existence, but this will forever be embedded as my best measure of musical taste, thanks to my dad. I've heard so many songs since I was born, and I still have yet to hear their entire catalogue. I'm so weirdly passionate about this band, I got riled up when someone called them a "rly rly OLD 50s band or somethin, right?" on my profile on a fanart website, as if everyone's supposed to know who they are.

Here are my top artists on Last.fm, and no, these do not in any way reflect my favorite artists.
1. Wolf Parade
Yeah, I like them
2. Murder by Death
They're okay. Had one album I really liked.
3. Architecture in Helsinki
I think they're pretty fucking fun if anything.
4. The Hold Steady
They're really great. I wouldn't mind seeing them live. Sort of a kick-back-and-relax-at-the-bar band channeling Bruce Springsteen.
5. of Montreal
A guilty pleasure band that's less of a band and more of Kevin Barnes + a few guys playing instruments. Two entire albums are entirely about him even. Self-indulgent and relies on excessively cheery and dynamic/complex music. One of the better or worst of the Elephant 6 company's bands. Depending on whether or not you dig their style.
They're only up here because I find them catchier than I should and I play entire albums at once.
6. Mission of Burma
Uh, I kept playing them because I could never get into their sound and continued to try.
7. Polysics

11. Neutral Milk Hotel
Now that I've given Aeroplane a few really good listens and while I did like it, it's like, the only album bar another that I wasn't big on. Thusly I just can't find myself totally caring.

Side-project of Wolf Parade's Spencer Krug. Cool stuff.
14. DeVotchKa
It is like gypsy/rock/orchestral/mariachi awesome stuff. Kind of don't give major shits about anymore either though.
15. Coconut Records
Acousticy, vocally, pianoy. Fun.
Overall, I kind of hate how Last.fm has a top artists thing for me, because it doesn't totally reflect my taste. I think I can get rid of it and just have a top-of-the-month thing, but I haven't checked.

No doubt really, this is my favourite band. I think that their early psychedelic stuff with Syd Barrett and their albums from Meddle to The Wall is the best, but all albums they ever released are probably some of the best albums ever.
Porcupine Tree
Steven Wilson is probably the one of the biggest musical geniuses ever. Porcupine Tree, his best known band is commonly describes as a mix of psychedelic music, progressive rock and metal, but there's really no way to describe how good this music is. Also worth mentioning is Steven Wilsons other projects, No-Man and Blackfield being the best known. I can't wait for his solo album.
The Beatles
It's nice to see that they're not forgotten here. Oh, that's right, The Beatles will never be forgotten. Ever. The music is just too great. Ok, their albums from Rubber Soul, and their studio years are the best. It'll never be old.
King Crimson
King Crimson is best known for their amazing first album, In the Court of the Crimson King, which is considered one of the most important progressive rock albums ever. One of the biggest prog rock bands, and the only american band (well, band with american members at least) on my list (European and especially british music is usually superior, sorry)
Gentle Giant
Another progressive rock band, and probably the strangest of all the bands on my list. When I started listening to 70's progressive rock, this quickly became one of my personal favourites, even though it's a little more obscure than a lot of other bands of the time, it's pretty awesome. The music is very influenced by medieval and classical music, and the band used a lot of different instruments to creater unique style.
Queen
I don't think i need to say a lot about this band. Freddie Mercury was the best vocalist ever.
Kaizers Orchestra
The last band on my list is probably the most obscure. I'm norwegian, and this is the best norwegian band ever. Their lyrics are in norwegian, but I definetly recommend this band to non-norwegians too (they probably have more fans outside Norway than in Norway). Their music is heavily influenced by eastern european music, and they're famous as one of europes best live-bands. (Unfortunatly, I've never seen them live myself
)Of course, I like a lot of other bands too, these are just some of my favourites. Also, the order is more or less random.
