There's a site, ostdownloads or osttracks, or something like that. Around Christmas on the backup forums, I posted the Ace Attorney soundtracks from there. Specifically, the Phoenix arc music. EDIT: Gotcha! I'm not sure if this is the site. There's also some "PWCompiling" or something. It has all the music. |

Lately I've been listening to live versions of videogame music... Of Ace Attorney music and Professor Layton music in hype mode like: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials & Tribulations - Special Mix Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials & Tribulations - Ending Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box - Folsense Professor Layton and the Curious Village - Curtain of the Night The original in-game music was great already, but holy crap the live tracks. |

It was only this year that I started to download and pay more attention to videogame soundtracks.Bastion, I'm blaming you But I remember the song that made me realize that videogame music is awesome. I was 6 years old when I listened to the best song ever produced for a game:Stickerbrush Symphony. Man, I found that song beautiful and scary at the same time on those days. It was the perfect song for the thorn-maze level Bramble Blast. And, of course, videogame music can be waaaay better than some lousy modern bands. |

Man sounds pretty intense wish I had an MP3 of it. It's a typing game so might not be too fun anyway (though I hear Typing of the Dead was fun) if I could only have that song I'd be happy. |

Paced Energy (Maximum Confidence) - VVVVVV Never Surrender - Tales of the Abyss Awkward Justice - Tales of the Abyss Theme of the Unwound Future - Professor Layton and the Unwound Future A couple of my favorites. Specifically the first two xD. Video game music is amazing in how it's evolving. As Tommy Tallerico (one of the guys who leads Video Games Live) say, video game music evolved from being simple blips to being standalone music. And that's amazing. |

Hey folks. While ago Wooster made a topic for a OCRemix AA song. Well I figure it'd be weird to necro that topic and it's not worth making a topic for just one song. Figure this is as good a place as any to mention this However they did another called "Carry the Moment". So check it out it's got a real nice transition into Turnabout sister's for the ending so check that out. Hell OCR in general is a great music source. |

Holy crap, just after listening to one song on the Xenoblade Chronicles soundtrack I am convinced to go out and buy it Xenoblade Chronicles ~ Engage the Enemy Another recommendation of a song from another game I haven't even played, but isn't even released outside Japan is whatever music this is from Fire Emblem: Awakening on the 3DS: Here it is! That orchestral piece just tugs at my heartstrings at the fact it isn't announced for other countries... |

As a means of sort of directing each facet of the topic: 1. Not much of my music library has video game music, only the following: The Bomberman Hero OST, because Jun Chiki Chikuma's musicality on all of that stuff is out of this world, stuff Beethoven couldn't dream up - really though, from a strictly musical standpoint all of the harmonic change and rhythms and meters are stuff are just ridiculous, and always so strangely satisfying The Animal Crossing OST, because as it is a soundtrack for day to day life I find I can use it in a lot of situations - great for a train ride, for example! The Phoenix Wright OSTs - well, because of course! 2. Generally speaking I find remixes a waste of time - if you're a musician there's no point in wasting your talents on someone else's composition - make your own and put the touches you put on the remix in your own work. Just my opinion though, a remix never really 'gets me.' 3. While OST stuff is often made as conjunctive material to the game, it's really quite amazing how it can stack up to modern and even 'popular' music. Again, Bomberman Hero as an example, I've just never heard music like that anywhere else. To think Chikuma made that stuff frivolously just as a means of filling the audio in a video game isn't feasible to me - she's just flatout brilliant. 4. It's silly to call "video game music" a genre, especially when musically it's really quite hard to match any two OSTs: if anything I think soundtracking a video game brings a strange side out of composers: they can't rely on hooks and lyrics as a basis for a good soundtrack, they have to base it on this dynamic piece of action, a video game! It makes a composer drop the 3 minute pop song and turn it into this long, winding thing. |

Sometimes I think I play video games more for the music than the story line. Wow, I'm awful. For example: playing any Legend of Zelda game(specifically Skyward Sword, the only one I've ever attempted to play) will send me peeing in my pants every time I have to fight a bunch of enemies, but the music's so pretty yet epic and scary at the same time. On my mp3, I have all of the Pallet Town themes just for the sake of FRLG's theme. Same for The Lavender Town themes I have. I think I need more Ace Attorney soundtracks. |

With all the garbage of music that's out today, video game and movie music are what I listen to mostly. I also enjoy classical and jazz. I own a lot of soundtracks, both physical and digital. Many people I talk to may laugh at my tastes, but its not me who's missing out on such great music. In fact, I write for squareenixmusiconline.com. It's a really good site that's completely dedicated to reviews, news, and interviews about video game music. I've written two reviews. On on Mario the Music and one on Gyakuten Kenji Orchestra Album. I'm currently working on a section dedicated to Snatcher/Policenauts. Soon the whole website will go under a complete overhaul and will be called game-ost.com. Check out the links bellow. Actually I regard Shadow Hearts 3 to have the greatest OST a game ever had (Although 2 is the better game). And I also regard the series to have the most fun battle system a JRPG ever had. I guess this is something we heavilly disagree on. For unbearably bland music is much more up Final Fantasy's alley :P |
