I'm a total Japanese fantard, I love the movies, games, and especially the MUSIC...Even if I don't understand what they're saying XD. I really like J-rock and J-pop because their rhythms and beats are super catchy.

So who are your favorite J-rock/J-pop bands/singers? Who are your least favorite J-rock/J-pop bands/singers? Favorite and Least favorite songs?

Favorite bands/singers:
-Gackt
-Sayaka Suzuki
-NewS

Favorite songs:
-Redemption, Black Stone, Ghost (Gackt)
-Ame (Sayaka Suzuki)
-Fighting girl (Honey Sac)
-Hybrid Truth (Deluhi)

Least favorite:
I don't have any least favorites although I'm not fond of Utada Hikaru much. She's just O.K. to me.

Utada Hikaru is a bit of a dress up doll barbie in my view.

I like J-pop but I am not an avid listener enough to spout on and on about it.

Hmm, I think this should be changed to a general Asian music thread IMHO... I like some Jrock and Jpop, but mostly Jrock. Umm as for favorite bands and singers go... I like Alice 9, AnCafe, Dir en Grey, Radwimps, Gazette, some Utada Hikaru, some Arashi, and Ayaka. K-music's better

Wha? She dresses normally though...well, I guess there was that brief period when she got married that she did some wacky videos.

Anyway, I'll admit to liking some J-pop. Utada Hikaru's up there for me, but I also like Otsuka Ai, melody., some Hirai Ken, and like several others that I can't think of. I despise almost all the groups from Johnnys, because I swear they're lipsynching to the same singer backstage every time. The SMAPxSMAP TV show is pretty fun though. They're some mean chefs..

J-rock...there aren't too many bands I enjoy anymore. Porno Graffiti is good though, as well as Beat Crusaders. The Yellow Monkey's one of my all-time faves. Dir en Grey was probably the only visual kei band I enjoyed, and that's only after they moved out of that stuff.

Other than that, I really enjoy Kobukuro. Oh yeah, and Mr. Children.

Ahh I'll get back to this thread later..

Hmm... I don't like JPop, really... I like what little JRock i've heard, but that doesn't cover very much, just Dir en grey and Girugamesh.

Sambomaster is probably the most mainstream Japanese rock band I like.

For the most part, a lot of J-rock is ersatz shit and a lot of J-pop is beyond plastic manufactured. Like any country, any broad genre will have its large points, but for contemporary Japan, it'd be the jazz scene.

Oh, Pickens made some terrible posts in the Guilty Gear Thread with some lame pictures and how he liked Isuka, but now I can forgive him because he hates Gackt. <3

And I have to thank Holy for reminding me about Sambomaster.

J-pop is the work of satan

Post subject:  Re: J-rock/J-pop

I understand why a lot of people hate him,
the fact that he left/was kicked out of Malice Mizer, that he's a ego maniac, and he pretty much thinks he's the most amazing person in Japan since pocky......IMO I like his music, Even if you don't.

Moving on from Gackt bashing....anyone else have J-rock/j-pop songs/bands that they reccomend?

That doesn't even make sense. :nick:

Anyway, I do like some J-pop and J-Rock.

I mostly like things like See-Saw and anything by Yuki Kajiura. But, I also like Kotoko and Angela. And can't go wrong with L'Arc~en~Ciel. But really, I don't buy too many albums by J-pop or J-Rock artists, I mostly have anime and videogame soundtracks that have certain artists on them. ^_^

Aw, don't say that. I make goofy, inoffensive posts, most of which are done in a slightly one-sided bit of fun. I'm not a bad person, I'm very good-natured. Think of me like... a pixie or something playfully wacky. ;_;

J-rock - Maximum the Hormone, BUCK-TICK, and Girugamesh. I'm sure there's others, but I can't remember. I just listen to whatever sounds good.
J-pop - Uhhh...Koda Kumi? Her stuff's pretty dancable.
Actually there's not a lot of j-pop I listen to, which is ironic because I love Vocaloid stuff.
Go figure.

I like that new song Koakuma Heaven by Gackt

But what REALLY makes that song interesting, is the english translation. Japanese emoticons and all.

Gackt's a pretty hot chick if you ask me.
