The title says it all. Are there any songs that make you tear up? If so, what are they?

For me, the big one is Can't (Halloween Valentine) by Scarling. I know I've mentioned it before. Basically, the story is, I had a friend who essentially broke off our friendship, and I sort of...well, pulled a bit of an Adrian. (I never actually attempted suicide, but I strongly, STRONGLY considered it.) And the song kind of reminds me of how I felt around that time.

Another one is The Perfect Ending by Straylight Run. Can't quite explain that one, but it always makes me sad.

And then, of course, there's The End Of The Tour, I'll Sink Manhattan, and I've Got A Match, all by They Might Be Giants. Just listen to those--the music and the lyrics are all horribly depressing.

Existentialism on Prom Night by Straylight Run.

I don't even remember why it makes my cry, but I tear up every time the first chorus comes on. It's a beautiful song.

It really is beautiful, isn't it? I love the video for it, too. And yeah, it always makes me emotional too.

Songs that are meant to invoke sad emotions just end up making me happy because they're so damn good... On the flipside, when applicable to the goings on of one's life, such songs could be very effective in invoking emotions.

I particularly like "Coming Home" by John Legend, the last song off of his second album "Once Again". It's from the perspective of a soldier at war, exploring his thoughts on war, and what he could have and would have done differently in his past relationship which was cut short by his current circumstances. A brilliant build up in instrumentation towards the end of the song really works for the triumphantly hopeful mood of the song.

There are a few songs that make me cry. I'm probably forgetting something, but here's what I can think of now:

Dead Boy's Poem by Nightwish: Even if I'm in a great mood, listening to this song always depresses me. I get goosebumps when the little boy reads the suicide note.

Same Old Lang Syne by Dan Fogelberg: the last few lines always get to me.

Christmas Shoes by NewSong: Oh god, this one makes me cry every time I hear it. And I recently discovered a SLOWER version of the song. With a little boy singing the last lines :larry: Seriously, the lyrics are heartbreaking enough as it is, was it really necessary to create a more depressing version of the song?

Psalm 151 by Wynona Judd: I was really into Touched by an Angel when I was in 5th-6th grade, and this song played during one of the episodes. It's actually a very uplifting song, but there's a really sad scene in TBAA that plays out as the song is being sung. Whenever I hear the line where that event happens, I always tear up.

Oh dear, I can be quite sensitive sometimes...

As horrendously glurgey as I find the song, it always makes me cry, too.

There's this Christian song that my mom used to listen to(back when I was a good, religious girl lol) about a mother looking for her son, or something like that(or something about Mary and Jesus, I can't really remember) but that song always made me cry. It still would if I listened to it now, but I don't remember what it's called... :yogi:

Amazing Grace always makes me tear up too because that song was played at my Granny's funeral(I wasn't born then) and it always makes my dad cry. Anything that makes my dad cry is like... WHOA, so the song just reminds me of my dad which reminds him of his mom ;_; ...Did that make any sense?? :gant:

Other songs I listen to usually don't make me cry, but it makes me feel sad, usually songs that make me think of times whenever I was feeling down or heartbroken, etc. I like it when songs have that kind of power to make you feel certain emotions. Now those are good songs :]

Dreaming With a Broken Heart - John Mayer
Continued Story - Hitomi Kuroishi
The Palm of a Tiny Hand - Eufonius
The Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion
Shine of Air - Duel Jewel
The Big Dango Family - I don't actually know if the artist is even publically acknowledged...
Nagisa
Occasionally, Meg Mell from Clannad will put me on the verge, because I absolutely LOVE Clannad.

The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work (I think that's what it's called.... it was playing on the radio when I found something out so it always reminds me of that lol.)

Puff Daddy - I'll Be Missing You (or whatever it's called)
R Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly

These 2 were played at my friends 11 year old sisters funeral. I didn't actually go but she told me all about it and now I can't listen to them.

Oh and in the film Finding Neverland there's a piece of music called "Why Does She Have To Die" and it's soooo beautiful ;O;

Most of Amethystium's stuff...
Stand in the Rain. I love it, but it's sad. "So stand in the rain, Stand your ground, Stand up when it's all crashing down...If you stand through the pain, You won't drown, And one day what's lost can be found, So stand in the rain..."
Of course, I don't tear up. I have disciplined myself to the point where I show very little outward emotion. And there are permanent scars where the rubber bands clipped me every time.
In any case...I also find the first part of Welcome to the Black Parade a little sad. Stupid pianos and slow lyrics.

That's awful! D: Poor kid...

Sorry for asking, I'm just morbidly curious about things like that (as I said).

Also, I've thought of two other songs that make me emotional:

-Jack Off Jill's cover of Love Song (originally by The Cure). I've heard the original, but for some reason, JOJ's cover just makes me far more emotional. Maybe it's the way she screams "I will always love you!" at the end of the chorus. I dunno.

-Love Becomes A Ghost by Scarling. Just a sad song in general...Jessicka really has a knack for emotional music.

Each of these songs has some painfully bittersweet memories attached to them which almost never fails to make me shed a tear.

Everything by Alanis Morissette
Bones by The Killers
The Scientist by Coldplay
Everlong (acoustic version) by Foo Fighters
Strange & Beautiful by Aqualung
The Perfect Ending by Straylight Run

And this song
Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata 1st movement always makes me reflect on my life, which in turn causes immense sadness.

There are plenty more songs that evoke a powerful emotion in me, these are just the ones I could think of off the top of my head

Possession(The piano version) and Song for a Winters Night ~ Sarah McLachlan
Holy Tears ~ Tara MacLean (reminded me of the ending of Due South.)

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the T&T Orchestra ending theme.

Oh where to begin.

Fade to Black - Metallica (Consider the fact that this song is about contemplating, then eventually committing, suicide.)

Samba Pa Ti - Santana (Translates to Samba for you, This is an instrumental song that describes sorrow, and then joy.)

Hope - Apocalyptica (Another Instrumental, this has anger and then sadness)

The Ocean - The Bravery (A song about forgetting someone, Currently my favorite song)

Until it sleeps - Metallica (This song is about Cancer and what it does to someone.
The saddest part about the song is he asks someone to hold him as he dies,
"And the fear still shakes me
So hold me, until it sleeps"
)

The Thrill Is Gone - ZZ Top. (It describes someone losing love for someone, The reason I cry is that I imagine losing the love I have; Will I always love her?)

Behind Blue Eyes - The Who (This song describes me in most every way, the one exception is the fact that my eyes aren't blue)

Hate Me - Blue October (This song is about a man who wants his mother to hate him, He's tired of making her cry for all the ways he's fucked up
"You never doubted my warped opinions on things like suicidal hate
You made me compliment myself when it was way too hard to take
So I'll drive so f*cking far away that I'll never cross your mind
And do whatever it takes in your heart to leave me behind"
)

:sadini:

I started to cry a little just telling about these songs.

Hello by Evanescence - That song is haunting and pretty sad.
My Immortal - same as above. I love the song.

For me only one song seems to make me cry, I don't even know what it's called I only know a few lines. The song that goes, "you are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy, when sky's are grey" That song makes me feel that depressed feeling of melancholy and remember those days when I was bullied (not physically, mentally) because it didn't feel like there was any sunshine to take my dark clouds away but now I guess that things are better but it makes me feel sad and depressed remembering stuff like that :sadshoe:

My Heart Will Go On- Celine Dion (Come on everybody's cried at this one)

Why? Well the reason is that the lyrics have insanely deep meaning to it. Especially if you or anyone else has lost their father at a young age.

Wow... Just. Wow.

Listen, I'm sorry, and I don't mean to sound insensitive, but people who choose the easy way out for themselves and don't work through their troubles aren't worth anything to me. If you're not considerate enough to think about how the rest of the world would feel, you're less than trash. And I don't mean to upset you, but whenever someone brings up suicide and relates it to something I like, I get this way. It's possibly my biggest pet peeve... :igarashi: *Heavy Sigh*

Hey, I know, but you know what? You can move past depression. I've seen it firsthand. Psychological problems are escapable. And that's why I hate the quick escape sequence. It irks me so.

Some people are psychologically depressed, and then there's me who's psychologically short-tempered about things with meaning to me, all right?

I'm not a person to cry over songs, but when I was younger there were two songs that made me cry no matter what.

The first one is some folk song about a lost lamb...

The last one is Pachabells Canon in D. (Did I spell that right?)

Uh... I doubt your temper is psychological, if it's that bad that implies that when you were born there was an overload of Progesterone in the womb, causing you to become immune to calming down which starts to eat away at your brain-- meaning you'd have a mind set of a killer... well, hopefully you didn't experience any traumatic events when you were younger, right? Well, either that or you have an overload of estrogen in your body atm. If anything it's a hormonal problem, but I think maybe you just have a short temper.

Some people can, some people can't.

And you're not "short-tempered", you're a fucking douchebag.
