Yeah, I know I'm gonna get tons of comments saying "Musicals are for (negative nouns) who (negative verb) (negative adjective) (negative literary term). Go die, loser.", But, damn it all, I don't care. For those who aren't going to call me a pussy for liking musical theatre, go on and discuss.
I hope there isn't already a topic for this.

I love musicals, I love to be in musicals, I wish my life WAS a musical.

It might as well be, I'm always singing something, and I've always made up songs for random things since I can remember.

I wish I could remember the HOV song I came up with when I was little, thats probably the most random one XD

Musicals I Got To See Live:
Annie (3rd row center <3 was uber) I will always love Annie, and I loved watching it live and being very close to the stage (close enough to see down the orchestra pit xD), I was in 1st or 2nd grade then too, so I thought it was even more uber. I'd love to see this on stage again.
Peter Pan - I don't remember much.. it was good though.
Les Miserables - <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Wicked - Not as good as the book, but great music <3 My mom is still hooked on the CD XD
The Lion King - I enjoyed this immensely, I thought it would be crappy, but it wasn't... I'm still a hardcore fan X_X

I know I've seen a few others... *racks brain* The ones listed above were during official tours when they came to Dallas. I've seen tons of local productions as well.

I've seen (in order):
-Beauty and the Beast (I don't quite remember well, but I liked it a lot)
-Wicked (My Favorite)
-Mary Poppins (eh, It didn't quite live up to that Disney-on-broadway standard, IMO)
-Spamalot (HILARIOUS.)
-Hairspray (SO Bright and fun. I was dancing in my seat.)
-Legally Blonde (very cute.)

Ones I want to see BADLY (I'd go to ANY, but these in particular):
-Putnam County Spelling Bee (I NEED IT. I NEED IT NOOOOW.)
-RENT (SAME GOES FOR THIS ONE.)
-Avenue Q (GAAAAH)

Post subject:  Re: Musicals

Spelling Bee was very funny and very audience interactive.

Musicals I need to see:

Avenue Q: BECAUSE IT'S JUST FULL OF AWESOMENESS!!!!!!
Xanadu: Kerry butler is playing Kira... I LOVE KERRY BUTLER! And I heard it was rescripted so it doesn't suck like the movie did.
The Color Purple: Purple is my favorite color. Plus, I hear nothing but good things about it.

Shows I would love to see again:

Curtians: I could probably see this show 100 more times and still not be bored with it, especially since I would make PW characters perform the whole show. >:D
Hairspray: My favorite musical all-time.

The only musical I've seen is Sweeney Todd, my school performed it last year. And they were amazing O_O I didn't know there were so many talented students!

The only weird thing about it was that because of the blind-casting, Sweeney was black and Johanna (his daughter) was white and blonde... They looked absolutely nothing alike. But whatever.

Yeah, but it's on the great white way. I know La Boheme is an opera, and, despite Rent being based off it, Rent's more of a rock opera-musical. It's categorized as one everywhere I've seen it. They don't sing in an opera-like fashion, but maybe that's just me.
EDIT: Fix'd.

There's no "I feel" about it.

"Rock opera" doesn't mean anything except marketing to young people.
Quote:

Which has nothing to do with the definition of opera. There is almost no spoken dialogue (I think maybe two or three lines) in Rent, hence it is an opera.

Post subject:  Re: Musicals

^ Well, I didn't know about the connection to La Boheme until recently. I got into RENT only a month ago, and I just call it a musical because it's referred to as a "rock musical" from where I get information on it. But one source is Wikipedia, so it could be an opinionated fact. The other's broadway.com, and I'm not sure how dependable it is. Everything I've read of it so far has been true, but I'm not too sure. So I'm not saying your wrong or anything, I'm just saying what I think.

Random Note: Has anyone seen "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" on stage?

I love musicals, both on TV and on a real stage. Here are pretty much all the musicals I've watched:

My favourites
JC Superstar: It's got great songs and shows a different perspective on Jesus' life whatever your beliefs.
West Side Story: Romeo and Juliet meets the streets. One of the greatest musicals of all time.
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers: Forget Oklahoma; this is the best country musical. It has real heart to it.
Les Mis: Quite a sad musical, but a very powerful one.

Others
Oliver: Never before has a boy wanted more. Gets overplayed though.
Most Disney musical films: Lion King, Jungle book, Oliver and. Company... nearly all of them are top notch.
Cats: A bit artsy, but it's still pretty good.

Also off topic, Jibo is GAAAAA! ;)

Second'd. I grew up with the lovely little ditties sprouted from Disney classics.
I've followed many a bouncing Mickey head in my years.

For the record, you were right about Rent. I just assumed it was a musical because not all of the dialogue was sung.

I'm not a big fan of musicals at all, in fact. But! I heard very good things about the Lord of the Rings musical that was going on in Canada a couple years ago, and I actually wanted to see it. I never got a chance to, but I wanted to anyways.
