Another E³ announcement adventure gamers might be interested in, Professor Layton and the Curious Village is officially coming to NA. (Dec. 3rd)

For those who haven't heard of it, Prof. Layton is an adventure/puzzle game following the Professor and his apprentice Luke as they solve a mystery in a strange town. The game play is a mixture of traditional text adventure style exploring intertwined with many individual puzzles and brain teasers (over 100 in fact, with more available for download).

I'm really excited to finally get a chance to play this game.

Edit: Here's a link to the official Japanese website for those that want to check it out. If you click the kid in blue in the bottom right corner, you can try a short online demo.

How would this game rate on a scale from Brain Age: Sherlock Homes Edition to Hotel Dusk?

Hotel Dusk.

Think of it as a text adventure with interesting character design, filled with old brainteasers that people used to amuse themselves with before videogames came around.

One example I can think of from the game is this. If I didn't get it 100% right, whatev. You have 3 wolves, and 3 birds. You have to get them all to the other side of a river, using a raft. The raft cannot carry more than 2 or less than 1 animal at any time. Also, if there are more wolves than birds on either side at any time, a massacre occurs.

Oh, and you can scribble stuff on the touch screen to help you out. Like I said, do want.

I'm being a hero and not letting this topic die. It looks fantastic and I'm going to import it with Apollo Justice on February.
Re: Professor Layton and the Curious VillageTopic%20Title

It was due out in America on the 3rd of December? Anyone know if it was released?

Yeah. Strangely, it was originally set to come out the same day as Brawl, got delayed at about the same day as Brawl did, and now is once again coming out the same day as Brawl. Don't know what the heck Nintendo's trying to do there; one would think it would just cannibalize the game's sales. Maybe they think people will go to the store to get Brawl and notice Layton while they're shopping? >_>;

Completely different demographic, I believe.

Nintendo obviously wants to drain all my money all at once with College, GS4, Professor Layton, and Brawl at roughly the same time.

Seems interesting, but why must it come out in the same time AJ and Brawl comes out? February is just going to be too busy for me! @_@

According to the game's flash site it's coming February 10th!
Only problem is, that I now have to order it separately from GS4. :grey:

Anyone here had a chance to play it? I thought it was a rather charming game with all the brain-teasers and whatnot.

EDIT: Topics got merged, this bit is out-of-date now and thus deleted. :P

Unfortunately this game doesn't appear to be scheduled for a European release at all. For the benefit of us poor souls who may want to import this: what is it all about? how faithful to the original is the localisation? is it worth paying the rip-off import fees for? :)
Does we even do these things anymore?

I started it last night. The voice acting is rather charming and it's got the ole England feeling all over (although I've only gone past the intro and solved three of the riddles. Good localisation!). Looking fantastic, so far, and I can't wait to play more. Check the Japanese trailers, if you like.

This sucks. All the jerks with R4 are playing it and I, who forgot to preorder it, have to suffer because of the slow shipping.

Oh, and I wasn't talking about Ethed or anyone here, just the dudes in youtube, who are asking the rom etc.

Edit: And I wasn't saying Ethed or anyone here does use R4 for illegal games. But if you do, you can kiss my ass. :yuusaku:

... Anywho...
I just got this game last night. I LOVE IT! I like how the game uses a animated movie feel for not just the cut scenes but for the sprites too! The puzzles are challenging and fun! Especially when you figure out one you are stuck on. I have finished 15 problems so far and I'm really enjoying the story. And the manual did mention a secret that out can only unlock after you finish the game and get the sequel which has the code for the first game. From what I've seen so far I can say I'm looking forward to the next one! To bad there were no downloadable puzzles yet. I would love to see a movie based off of this just from the cut scenes!

I just bought it, too.

And like Donald, I also love it!

I find most of the puzzles pretty hard. I've been able to figure most of them out, but I still have lots of trouble. Makes you think a LOT more than Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk. Right now, I have to solve 75 (or something) puzzles before I can get into that tower. The only part I don't like about it is how the cut-scenes kinda come in and out a random. Feels kinda awkward. But I like the cut-scenes! Very nice. The art style is very nostalgic (I used to watch those movies all the time XD).

Why did they have to kill off my favorite character? AT THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME, NO LESS! And who here is also annoyed by Luke's voice?

Anyways, interesting game. And that Inspector-something guy looks a lot like Gumshoe...

Just got it, it's got an incredible art style. It reminds me a lot of the Triplets of Belleville(sp) style, so I assume it's based on French style illustrations?

The puzzles are great in variety, and there's a lot more things to collect than I thought (though since it comes with the puzzles, it's not annoying and in fact gives me plenty more to do besides the puzzles).

Still playing it, up to 2K+ points, solved about 81 of them (with 3 unsolved as yet), I think I'm up to Chapter 6?

I need some help on the Chocolate Code one. I stare at my keyboard, and then at my phone's keypad, but I just can't make out what I'm suppose to do =(

How can you say no to SCUMMVM and Day of the Tentacle @____@!?!?!?

Also, there's Moonshell. And encoded and pirated movies for it come out A LOT faster than you think (the latest one is Meet the Spartans and Sweeney Todd FYI).

Those "this reminds me of a puzzle" things were stupid, but the cut scenes were awesome. I liked about half of the puzzles, the rest of them were, I dunno, too easy or just poorly explained. Or then it's just me.
Does anyone know what the top secret area contains?

I got this game a few days ago and have already beaten it. However, that it's too short is the only bad thing I have to say about it! I loved the story and the characters, especially the Professor himself. And the puzzles! They were so addicting that I haven't even been on CR much for the past two days all because of solving more puzzles. I had a very hard time stopping each night to go to sleep. I'm very glad that they're already clearly making a sequel.
