None of those questions were really spoilers, so there was no need to tag them. :minuki: But there are spoilers for the answers, so:

Spoiler: Question 1 (whole game spoilers)
Left to right, top to bottom:
The Curious Girl -> The Great Witch Bezella (changes partway through the game)
The Mysterious Labyrinth City
Witches in London
Giovanni's Investigation
The Story Teller
Mural Beneath the Library
Chief Prosecutor Jordolla
The Alchemist and the Bell Tower
Mysterious Golden Statue
The Forest Ruins

Spoiler: Question 2
No.

Spoiler: Question 3
Not that I recall.

Spoiler: Question 4
No.

Without spoilers, how would you rate the story and how does it compare to other Layton games and other Phoenix Wright games as well?

I've just picked up a copy yesterday from the Nintendo e-shop since I was too impatient waiting for its European release in 2014. So far, I am enjoying every moment of it, though I'm still in the beginning of the game (haven't gotten to chapter 1 yet), and so far it feels soooo easy.

How is the difficulty curve in this game? I'd prefer separate perspectives for the investigation and trial segments, since I don't think they're completely comparable with one another.

I thought you'd already played the game ^^'

Both investigation and trial parts stay relatively easy. The investigation parts are more like Layton, so I guess that the difficulty is derived from the puzzles (but the puzzles are easier/there are less variations than normal Layton games). The trial parts aren't that difficult either, partially because of a limit on evidence items. The curve goes up as you progress in the game, but it's (purposedly) kept quite accessible for both audiences.

I watched a playthrough of it on Nico through to chapter 1, but wanted to try out the game for myself instead of spoiling everything. (I have been spoiled to the ending thanks to watching a collection of cutscenes... in hindsight, it probably wasn't that great a decision, but it was worth the surprise reveal.) It's also why I've been avoiding this part of the forums.

Also, the music is so amazing. I could listen to it forever...

By the way, is the DLC menu unlocked after the 1st chapter, or do I have to play through the whole game?

Even if the DLC episodes are non-canon, they're written by Takumi (and associates). They're worth a try at least.

Spoiler: About Mahone...
As much as I like the girl, she comes off as a Mary Sue... even more so than Athena in GS5. The story not only circles around her, but she's even the Storyteller's daughter, or so I hear. She's obviously the motive behind all of his actions in-game; I just haven't figured out exactly what he's done yet.

I hope she isn't going to be the damsel-in-distress throughout the whole game. Maya got her turn in one case, and that should be enough... hopefully.

Narumiya's voice is starting to get on my nerves. He makes Nick seem half-asleep through everything. Now, I can imagine Nick objecting in his sleep, but everything else is like a low mumble. I know he isn't going to snore at any point, but it would feel so appropriate.

Spoiler: About Mahone, no real spoilers
To be honest, when I finished the game my first thought was, "wow, when this comes out in English there are going to be hordes of people calling her a Mary Sue." You'll see what I mean, but yeah, she shows signs from the get-go.

Considering how much more voice there is in this game compared to GS5, I really wish Level-5 had gotten Takayuki Kondo to do Phoenix's voice here. There's one line, very late in the game, that Narimiya's delivery made me burst out laughing.

Spoiler: For people who have finished
It was right before the final puzzle, when Layton gives this big impassioned speech about bringing light to the city and all that, and finishing with "最後のナゾを。。。解くとしましょう!" and Phoenix just replies "。。。はい!"

I mean, wasn't the best comeback for Phoenix in the first place, but oh my god Narimiya's delivery just popped the tension like a balloon.

Now I can't help but imagine Phoenix in this game as hobo-Nick. The voice would definitely fit that way. featuring Trucy as Luke and Mr. Hat as Professor Layton

We all love making fun of Capcom's DLC practices, but I would pay for DLC replacing Narumiya's voice. (真顔

(I am looking forward to Narumiya in the new Aibou season starting this week though!)

Ah, maybe I should finally replay the game too now. It's been almost a year since it was released and I've only played it once!

Edit: I shoulda just played through to find answers for those first two questions, haha...

Based on one line that Maya randomly throws out at one point, "Zvarri!", I've come to the conclusion that this game takes place some time during or after T&T. Unless she's able to come up with that term on her own (which would be oddly coincidental), I'm sure she picked it up from somewhere.
Besides, if it's after T&T...
Spoiler: prologue
it's only natural that she'd swing a pipe at Nick's head. She's swung a blunt sword at his head and cut his hair before.

Though, I remember from somewhere in another thread that Nick makes a comment about not meeting a "real butler before". Could someone clarify when and in what vague context he says it?

I think it was during the second Witch Trial, or at least in that case. And it was just a comment on that character whose name I've forgotten but who was basically a butler IIRC >_> And you could it as a true statement both before and after GS2...

2nd trial?
Spoiler: Do you mean
Patras Algery? I remember her being mistakenly referred to as a butler, but I don't remember who said it first. Maybe it was Nick after all.

...I've reached the 9th chapter now, and I still don't quite understand the "story" of the Storyteller himself. So far, he seems like a pretentious jerk who only cares about himself.
Spoiler:
He's really become so absorbed in his own works that he doesn't realize his own daughter is currently standing trial. What does he hope to accomplish by writing these stories?

Also, since I pretty much sped through that book called "The First Story", I don't remember what the tale says regarding Bezella and Mahone's relation. A quick answer will do.

Edit: This is a facepalm-worthy post of mine. I just had to keep going and stop asking questions.

Deleted that extra post.

In this game, anyone who does one of those shouts has it voiced - there's no "silent" interjections. So I can't recall exactly who has them off the top of my head - there's a lot.

Actually, there is one interjection bubble that isn't voiced, but it's long and used only once (twice if you count the DL episodes).
Spoiler: And that one is...
"IRASHAIMASE!" = "WELCOME!"

I don't remember if there are any witnesses who DON'T have a voiced interjection. They all shout "HOLD IT!" at least once, I think.

Isn't that one voiced in the main game? It's just in the DLC it's silent, I thought.

And I don't think all the witnesses yell "HOLD IT" at least once. I'm pretty sure some of the ones in case 3 don't, for instance.

Can you give a complete overview of all the DLC puzzles and episodes have been about? (Don't just say "It's just the cast doing silly things" please.) :will:

There's a new one out tomorrow, but thus far:

Spoiler: Episode 1
Phoenix, Maya, and Mahoney arrive at Layton's office a year after the game. The group discusses tea for a while, and there's a puzzle (for Mahoney) about mixing potions.

Spoiler: Episode 2
The group goes for a walk out in the London park from the beginning of the game, where the car is inexplicably still crashed, though Luke goes missing. Chelmey stops by and explains that since PLvsAA is so popular, they've elected to re-enact the crash from the start of the game to draw tourism. After a puzzle of decoding parrot phrases, Maya finds Luke cooped up in the car.

Spoiler: Episode 3
The group returns to Labyrinth City and are greeted by Jordolla and the Story Teller. Jordolla's a bit stage-shy, and the Story Teller has a rather mundane 'story' in his book from when he was in the hospital. Maya and Luke solve a sliding puzzle of putting a mural back together.

Spoiler: Episode 4
The group stops by Croix's bakery, where Jeeken is now working and Chuuken is hanging out with Kurone. Jeeken is still wearing his armor at Croix's request. Croix, mad at Mahoney for not letting her know the group was coming, has them solve a puzzle (about what I can't quite recall). After some prodding, they work out that Jeeken is working to make money to buy Jordolla a birthday present, much to his embarrassment.

So really, nothing too important. And there's not even a ghost of a fourth wall.

Can you give me an updated version of the DLC?

I have a question that's been bugging me for a while, and seeing as this game's coming out in under 3 months time, I might as well post it.
Do Phoenix and Layton have equal play time? the only gameplay I've seen of the game, is Phoenix gets 2 cases (London and Witch) and Layton seems to have a multitude of investigation and puzzle time? Is that just bias on the uploader's parts? Or do you play as Layton in more of the game as you do Phoenix?

It's pretty equal, I'd say.

Spoiler: More details on structure, no story spoilers
The game is divided into 12 chapters (2 prologue + 10 standard) like a Layton game; if memory serves 5 are purely Phoenix-style, 6 are purely Layton-style, and 1 is both. Some of the Phoenix-style chapters can get pretty long though (one chapter = 2 court sections).

On thing I wanna know is if they announced any news on a NA release?

It's definitely coming out in NA this year, there's just no calendar date like there is for Europe. (Although if it's the same as Azran Legacies is, NA may get the game a few months after Europe)

Yea that's what I meant, if there was a actual date for it. Well hopefully your right and it will just come out just a few months after Europe or hopefully sooner.

Spoiler: Returning Character Spoiler
Just got Edgeworth accidentally spoiled for me thanks to somebody posting a GIF on Tumblr as an out-of-context reply... :dahlia: Would've been a nice surprise but I guess he was obvious anyhow. As I turn TumblrSavior back on-I want to know did I spoil anything HUGE for myself besides the hype of seeing him reappear or is he more of a DD style cameo?

Spoiler: Villain/breakdown spoilers
I purposely spoiled Olive and the flower girl, any big "oh my gosh it's you?!" surprises left for me? Both came from impatiently watching game-play footage when an English release still seemed uncertain back in the day. I'm certainly going to be staying far away from everything in two months however. :pearl:

Spoiler:
In the story mode, he is only shown before the credits, he only says stuff like "it's been a while since I've heard you object" (my Japanese isn't very good), he appears later in the DLC scenario where he solves a puzzle.

Spoiler:
There are more cases in the game, so don't worry, there are still mysteries out there, including bosses.

I have been waiting to ask this question.

Are they ANY Monty Python references in this game, most notably from The Holy Grail?

From what I've seen thus far Mr. Layton is pretty much always ahead of everyone in terms of thinking and reaching the solution, isn't he?
I was kinda hoping that Wright would show Layton his skills of turning the most hopeless situations into a win; does that actually happen, or is Layton always ahead of him, in court or otherwise? It doesn't count if Layton guides him like Mia.

It's more just that Layton always has the right ideas. He's rarely ahead of Wright with actual conclusions. He'll often poke Wright and go "Mr Wright. Maybe you're thinking about this the wrong way?" or something like that. It's not like he just knows what's going on and doesn't want to help Wright like Mia would sometimes do.

They investigate most of the mysteries together, actually, so you can't say for sure if Layton is really "ahead" of everyone.

By the end, though, he and Luke definitely are.
