If I'm not mistaken, unlike with the Ace Attorney series, the Layton games have different localizations in the United Kingdom and the United States, changing things like voice actors, some characters' names... Did they do that too with this game? If there is only one English version of this game, are Layton and Luke voiced by their British VAs or their American VAs?

The game isn't in the US yet but in previous Layton games, Luke has had a different VA in the UK while Layton's VA has been the same.

She just didn't expect the defense to be so awesome, is all. She also said later that she would have gone to him, had she known.

As a reminder, guys, try to give some indication of when your spoiler is (endgame, etc.), rather than just using a blank spoiler tag.

Spoiler: Ending
My guess would be she brokered a deal for a fine and probation or something - stuff that could be easily swept under the rug by Arthur's company. I don't think she was actually trying to send Espella to prison.

Yes, the name just wasn't coming to me due to not having played the English version myself yet. :yogi:

I've only played Curious Village and Diabolical Box. Am I good for when I play PLvAA, or should I try to get to the rest of the series?

You're fine. There might be a few homages or references that are slipping my mind, but being familiar with Layton and Luke is about all the introduction you need. (Considering there's a few hints PLvsPW takes place between Diabolical Box and Unwound Future, some might even say it's the perfect place.)

That said, I strongly recommend Unwound Future at some point. Easily the best of the original trilogy, and arguably of the whole series.

Author:  linkenski [ Sat Apr 19, 2014 2:51 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: "I just want to know one thing" - PLvsGS edition

I second that. I thought the concept for Unwound Future seemed a bit weak because it had "time travel" as its main theme, but after playing it, I have to say that you can't miss it!

It even makes some things from the two first games come full circle, which I didn't expect at all. I also didn't expect it to be the best in the entire franchise, but it truly is! ;-)

I apologize if this has already been asked, but is the game separated in cases? or is it all one big case separated by chapters?

Every other chapter is a case, up until the last trial, which spans several chapters. There are 4 in total, including the one in the prologue.

Post subject:  Re: "I just want to know one thing" - PLvsGS edition

And to add some more:
...in a sense the game has Takumi's usual 4-case structure, which is also a change of pace since the 3 first trials all just have one segment, so there is no going out during day 2 to investigate further for more clues, and then tackle the culprit in day 2's court.

Spoiler:
If I recall correctly... Darklaw was the Great Witch, right?

It is evidenced by how she freely casted magic in London and in Sir Belduke's residence without using the scepter.

How come that she was able to say "Granwyrm" during the trial, without activating it?

Spoiler:
Because "magic" is the work of Shades like stage ninjas during movie/theater productions. Since she's in charge of them all, why would she summon a giant fire dragon and essentially convict herself?

Besides, "Bezella" and the "Great Witch" are two different things.

Another question: How was Phoenix's and guard's "Torch vs flashlight" conversation handled in non-English languages?

I have a question about the DLC.

Is it actually downloaded or is it already on the cart just unlocked (like the downloadable puzzles in the DS Layton games)? I ask as my 3DS' SD card is pretty full and I'm not sure if I'd have enough free space.

What I want to know is if there's a walkthrough for this game.

Yeah the game can be ridiculously long and such but hey, it never hurts to be prepared.

I heard there are 4 mysteries in this one. What are their names so I can add them to the list?

"The Golden Court"
"The Final Witch Trial"

Since my whole question is basically a spoiler...

Spoiler:
So in the end, we learn that magic doesn't exist, right? Then how does the intro make sense, what with the statues coming alive and attacking Carmine Accidenti and Espella? At first I thought it was that they were still under the influence of the hypnosis gas and whatevers and imagined all that, but that doesn't explain how that handprint ended up on the car. I mean, Layton mentions it, right? :ron: That there is a weird handprint-dent in the side of Carmine's car and that it's too big to be a normal person's but is the right size and shape for the right hand of a statue near Carmine's crash site, even though the statue is holding something in its right hand? Frankly I don't think that Eve would be so rash as to actually bring shades out of Labyrinthia and create 'magic' outside of it, in London and all, especially since 'Labyrinthia' was top-secret.

Plus what happened to Carmine Armine anyway? :gumshoe: He didn't... die, surely? I think he just disappeared. :/

Layton mentioned Carmine in the end of the game, that luckily he wasn't that badly hurt. He stayed in the hospital for a while, nothing more.

I really don't think you can get "stuck" in PLvsPWAA. Courtroom segments have less evidence and there aren't any bad logic leaps like in AA2 or T&T IMO, and the Layton-esque investigation segments always tell you what the current objective is, plus the interface is very user-friendly.

But I think around the time of release there should probably be one on IGN or GFaqs, if there isn't already, considering the game has been out in english for 3 months already.

Spoiler:
It is explained in the Special Episodes (which are pretty much development commentary made by characters) that part of the park was bought by Labrelum Inc.

In short, the moving statues are robots. Probably the part with buying public ares is also how they got the secret passage thing installed at the bridge.

Nearavex, when you give an answer in spoiler tags, make sure you tag it appropriately or quote the question, so people can tell what you're hiding in it.

3 save files, as in the Layton games. No, you cannot skip around in a chapter like in DD. The chapters are broken up into sections with save points, but you can't jump back to a previous one to play it again, unless you choose to start a new game.

Spoiler:
The same tech is used in London. Since the magic doesn't actually start until Layton and Luke have been affected by the ink gas, for all we know, Darklaw and her gang could have been hiding jetpacks, turbo fans, and flamethrowers somewhere, and they'd all be paid for by Labrelum Inc.

The second special episode explains a bit more about the park, in case you haven't watched it already.

Spoiler:
That was a visual interpretation, of course. In reality they were probably given a glass of water earlier in the lobby and knocked out by the silver bells.

Bringing them by accident was a complete lie on Darklaw's part. Bringing someone requires way too many preparations (and dragging people from a goddamn courthouse) to be accidental. She was probably unwilling to actually give Nick any credit. Where did I hear that before...?

My best guess is that she had a little bit of trouble with Phoenix knowing about Espella and seeing her in such a condition, I believe.

dunno if anyone asked this, but does maya ever get incarcerated for something dumb again? if so will it be most likely because she's a spirit medium?

Author:  Nearavex [ Tue Jul 08, 2014 8:41 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: "I just want to know one thing" - PLvsGS edition

Nah, it doesn't work that way. Inquisition (aka prosecution) has a spell book, which lists all the spells that witches are capable of using. Witches can't use any more spells than what is listed there. Therefore, if inquisition cannot prove that spell from that book is used, the accused shall not be burn.

Being a spirit medium is pretty irrelevant to how magic works in that world.

Spoiler: 4: The Golden Court - Late
She does get incinerated though.
