I know that we deduce the von Karma family and everything within through Franziska and Manfred, however, I wonder if he really does have a grandaughter (with a dog names Phoenix).

At least from that context (Franziska is too young to have had kids, per se), it seems that he was simply alluding to the fact that Phoenix is in fact a dog, or a sarcastic example.

What are your thoughts? It's a small thing in the long line of things, but is there more to it in later games, or something I missed? I'm not sure there is much background to Manfred von Karma's family.

I know that's the connection that's made (at least on this site), but I'm unaware if there is a second reference other than GS1 case 4.

All I know is that Manfred makes reference to his grandaughter and her having a dog, but i've been scouring JFA and AA, but can't find anything else.

believe one of the official fanbooks had an "interview" with Fran where she mentioned it. It's fairly official, anyway.

hm, that makes sense, but only a little bit. sadly, being in Chicago, not much comes here in the form of background (without ruining something with my curious mind).

The official fanbook does confirm that Karma has two daughters. Franziska "herself" claims, "I have an elder sister with a family of her own. She has a child, and also a dog named Ryuu."

So it's canon. But no one knows who the daughter is, what she does, who she's married to, or exactly how old she is.

He apparently only has the one grandchild. If you select the wrong page of the file in the first part of Edgeworth's testimony about DL-6...

Von Karma Tsk tsk tsk... Looks like your luck has run out.
Judge Mr. Wright... This page has no contradictions that I can see!
Ack W-wait! There is a contradiction in the file!
Von Karma Then show us the right page! Even my grandchild could do better than you!

If von Karma has two daughters, then what's the problem? It wouldn't destroy the whole plot of Phoenix Wright, would it?

My theory of this is "that Franziska von Karma who appeared in JFA" wasn't created from the very beginning, thus created after AA. The creators couldn't have the idea to just create a sequel of AA because they wouldn't know how popular the series would become. It's pretty common in game industry to start thinking of a sequel when the game has become popular enough, because game making costs a lot.

So to create a good sequel, you create a character who has an interesting backstory and connections to old characters, but weren't mentioned in the first game. Think of the early character designs of PW characters *cough*Godot*cough*, and you'll see, everything wasn't planned from the very beginning.

Hm, the official fanbook...again it's a shame I have little exposure to the entirty of the PW universe.

Good deal, however, It's a rough household, most likely

I liked the preliminary sketches of Franziska (developmental art pages), where the one she was supposed to look similar to Mafred.

I did, however, like how her mannerisms were similar to her father's.

The knowledge itself doesn't create or destroy anything, and its logical to say that when games are made, sequals shouldn't be thought of too soon.

But, it's just an inquiry, and I just enjoy all the stuff the player is left to deduce, figure out, etc. It's an enjoyable story that takes some effort to see the meat pf the stories

Um, can't say much about this other than no, because I'm finding it hard to explain myself.

Looking at it carefully, I don't get how his saying that means he only has one grandchild.

with von karma's obsession with perfection, maybe hes related to hitler, though hitler believed in a perfect race. (and as far as the american version of GS is concerned, von karma is german, so maybe a possibility)

Actually, FabuVinny, in that statement he is only refering to 'one' grandchild in that reference. It's perfectly natural to refer to, perhaps, an exceptional 'one child', or whatnot, so that argument doesn't hold too much water, or swaying power.

I doubt he's related to Hitler either. He's simply a perfectionist, and a damn good one too. Hitler and most nazis were far less concerned about perfection, than power.

Von Karma, philisophically, is an entity which works for himself, and by himself seeks perfection and fulfilment from producing results flawlessly (which is surprising why he has kids, but not so surprising when you look as his daughter, especially at the end). Somewhat a utilitarian, but definitely a rationalist.

Philisophically (maybe psycologically also), PW is a very rich game.
