Well, I know "Suvarri!", his Japanese saying, meant "Flatly" or "bluntly", so I'd imagine Zvarri means the same thing.

Unless I'm not remembering correctly.

I think it's just an exclamation, without any real intended meaning. Kinda like something a magician would say, like, "Hocus-pocus" or something like that.

I love it. LOVE it. I'm saying it. :agia-shock:

If it's just an exclamation then couldn't it be a valid substitute for "Eureka!", even though that word has an actual definition...?

That's what I took it to be as well... as someone who used to perform magic, it does have a certain quality about it for that sort of performance :)

Who doesn't smile when he says Zvarri!? :larry2:

I figured that Zvarri! was what he said to show he was excited at the moment or perhaps had a moment of inspiration. :inspect:

There's some pure scummy bit where that Gumshoe says it, and the Judge says something like, "Ooh, it sounds German, mate!"

I wonder if it is German? - Who knows!

I'm pretty sure Zvarri has no connection to any known language other than English as an exclamation of sorts.

Well, zwar (pronounced 'zvar') is German which is used as 'admittedly'; 'it's true'; 'actually'; 'in fact'; etc. The phrase 'und zwar' = to be exact.

Probably has no connection, but hey. It's the closest German word I could think of.

No, Count. I'd say it was safe to make that connection.

And it makes a lot of sense, too, doesn't it? - The meaning of the word zwar, that you gave.

I learn something new, everyday.

I found it hilarious how characters were saying it occasionally after that case. (I remembered Maya saying it at least once.)

I looked a bit more into other languages, and found out that zavaří is a Polish word which looks similar to zvarri (I have no idea about how you pronounce zavaří, though, as I don't speak Polish).

Nor do I have any idea what it means, because all online Polish-English dictionaries seem to be failing me, but you do get a significant amount of search results if you search the word on the Polish Google site. (Google.pl).

But yeah, I don't think it needs to be looked into this far... We've got the basic gist of it, right? I'd say more or less just an exclamation, as has already been discussed.

For me it's just a word who makes :aiga: looks German.
Also he uses it like Elementary.

DON'T FORGET THAT ZVARRI SOUND LIKE SUVARI!
Maybe it's the point of this translation, a word who sounds like the real word.

If you're talking about GodotFan's rather silly response, nah.

If you're talking about Jibo's post, that's the closest I could get it.

I exclaimed Zvarri! in class today, when I figured out the problem.
;_; So many stares...I love that he says that, and not just Eureka! or Elementary!, depending on your interpretation. It gives him so much more character.

Sorry for necromancy posting... but zavaří isn't actually a Polish word.
There isn't such letter as ř in Polish alphabet at all (only in Silesian dialect).
I'm pretty sure it is a Czech word, but is has nothing in common with Zvarri.

I'm here to revive this thread and to provide the most definite answer to this topic:
Zvarri, or in the original Japanese text "zuvari(ズヴァリ)", is just Capcom's invented word based on "zubari(ズバリ)", meaning "to put it bluntly" in Japanese.
As you might know there's no distinction between the L and R sounds in Japanese, neither does B and V.
It's not Polish or German, but an invented exclamation in Japanese. Case closed!

(Actually Daramue hit it right on the nose)

As a Japanese person, I can shed a light. It is, indeed, a Japanese saying, although most would certainly spell (with Alphabets) as "zubari/zubali."

It came from a sound of cutting into something with a sword/knife, etc. As an expression, it vaguely means "to the point" or similar. "Zubari (zvarri) okotae shimashou" = "I'll answer it directly to the point."

Someone wrote "Eureka" as the equivelent earlier in the thread. I think that's the closest.

...Oh, I guess I only read the first few posts and jumped. It was already answered. Sorry for resurrecting an old thread.

I've alway thought that it's Atmey's version of Eureka, or a proclamation of discovery or an expression of passion (which Atmey seems to be very prone to)
Oh and I don't know how people pronounce it but I kind of like to put an emphasis on the "va" in "zavarri" and roll the "rr". Does anyone else do this?
I dunno, makes it more melodramatic to me!
