Probably true, but nevermind. It's done now. You didn't answer my question though: which one do you prefer? I won't be offended either way, I'm just asking out of genuine curiosity. ^^

Well, the thing with yours is that the characters stand out too much, they're too "punchy" as my old Comm Tech teacher would say. But mine is mine, and I don't usually think I do such a great job on my own stuff. The characters in mine are... blotchy or something... I dunno...

Well, to me, those poses should have a kind of force and power to them, so in fact something being "punchy" was exactly what I was looking for and if I were to have your teacher, I would probably drive him nuts by deliberately being as punchy and forceful in my work as possible and also berate him constantly for suggesting that punchy is bad in the first place! XD

It's just how I prefer things. :P With yours, I suppose the best way to describe it is that everything - the background on both sides and the characters - cancel each other out and make the whole thing seem a little muted. Also, the gradient map has somehow stripped a lot of the detail from the Mia sprite. XP The Edgeworth sprite isn't as badly affected for some reason.

(Small interlude: as I recall, a gradient map is a programmable filter that redistributes and enhances colour, correct? Perhaps yours could do with a tweak, or perhaps program several for different situations?)
Does we even do these things anymore?

Well, by punchy I meant they don't blend into the image. They've got too much of a contrast between them and the background.

I dunno what a gradient map is, all I know is that it overlays the image with a black & white copy, and then I change the lighting setting to make the image have less contrast.

Not bad at all. The hair spike's too small, believe it or not - that guy must have a ridiculous amount of hair gel. XD I'm having trouble placing which sprite you used as a base, which is a sign of a good job. :D Which one did you use? (Oh, and I ended up making my own new av and sig myself, as you can see. I haven't gotten the knack of doing it quickly yet. :P)

Hmm, yeah, his hair is too small... Oh well, it's only my 2nd attempt. I used Gant's body, Gumshoe's head, and Meekins's colours for his shirt.

Um... I suppose the background can be all... electric or something? I don't know. And if possible, could the text say "Here it comes, Thunder!!"? Thank you.

Glow? You mean the character? Um, I duplicate the layer with the character, then I gaussian blur the top one by 3 points. After that I select "Hard Light", and it looks glowy, I suppose.

not the character, I mean the background...I am new to this and it seems all the people who make really good avatars, signatures whatever all have a slow to the background and I cannot achieve that glow
*sad*

Actually, I basically do the same thing: I make the background with a variety of layers, then I press Ctrl+Shift+A to select them all at once, copy and paste it as a new layer, and then the gaussian blur thingy.

Most of Elements are about the same... except you can't slice. And you can still download plugins for Elements. That's what I know of.

Yes, I did that with yours, too, if you look closely. Except they're diagonal lines.

Fot horizontal lines, I opened up a new canvas, size 2 px by 2 px and put 2 pixels of black at the top and leaving the bottom 2 white. Then I hit "Define Pattern" in the Edit menu and made it into a pattern. Afterward, I went back to the original sig, made a completely black layer, used the "Pattern Overlay" in the Blending Options and then the pattern appeared on the canvas. I proceeded to change the opacity so the rest of the sig was visible.

Oh man, should I be revealing all my secrets like this?

*temporary topic hijack*

Irfanview's good for this kind of thing. It's an image viewer that can view PSD files as well as every common image format under the sun, animations included. It comes with built-in image enhancement tools: resizing, colour swapping and enhancement, etc. etc. I used to use it a lot before I got comfortable with GIMP.

I would resize the image to the size you want, then sharpen it until it looks as clear as the image did at its original size, then I'd enchance the colours and drop the brightness or the gamma a little. That should get it looking spiffy. :)
