Not making Gif look destroyed

I have no idea what to put as title.

Anyone know how to make the colors not get destroyed after optimizing? The image is freaken greyscale looking and yet it is missing pieces.

What program are you using to make the .gif? It sounds like you are using Animation Shop (Jasc/Corel) to me. If you are using AS, then when you optimize, click Customize before you go through the optimization process and select 255 colours, not the default 33.

It's pretty much the same: make sure in the "Optimize" window you set it to Custom, 256 colors.

Got it. I think the problem was that it been a long time since I ever made a gif.
