You should put your name in the corner, so it doesn't take away from the actual image.
Also, try this effect (it makes them look nice and glossy or something) :
1. Duplicate the layer of a character in your image
2. On the duplicate layer, Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur > select about 3 (that's what I use)
3. In the Layers box, click the pulldown tab and select Hard Light
4. Play with the opacity on the Hard Lit layer until it looks nice to you
