“Maya, that dress is beautiful.”

Maya was trying out a wedding dress her and Mia picked out. They were in the shop in front of the mirrors. Mia was sitting on the bench just behind the podium in front of the mirrors.

“I agree. I think this is the one.”

She sighed.

“What’s the matter?”

“It’s all so perfect. The perfect groom, the perfect dress… it’s like a dream.”

Mia smiled approvingly at her sister. Maya sat down on the bench next to Mia.

“Listen. It’s not a dream. It’s very much real.”

“I know that. But…”

“But what?”

“But, why would Nick want to… want to be with a girl like me?”

“What are you talking about?”

“I am a spirit medium who is now the Master of her village. I love burgers, and I love kid shows! I just… I just don’t know what Nick sees in me.”

Maya hung her head down. Mia was a little surprised by what her sister just told her. She never knew Maya was thinking about such things.

“Maya, he sees a strong, intelligent, funny, kind, and beautiful woman. If he didn’t see anything in you, he wouldn’t be marrying you. You wouldn’t be here. Nick loves you for who you are. All those things don’t matter to him. It’s what’s inside.”

“T-thanks, Sis.”

“It’s the truth, but you’re welcome. Feel better?”

Maya nodded. Mia kissed her on her forehead.

“Now, come on. We have to purchase this dress.”

“Okay. Hey, Mia?”

“Yes?”

“I just want to thank you… for everything. Whenever I need any cheering up or help, you’re always there to deliver. You are the best big sister anyone could ever ask for.”

Mia gave a small smile and sighed.

“Anytime, Maya. After all, what are sisters for?”

Nick and Maya were supposed to go to Edgeworth’s house the following night. Apparently, it was supposed to be the two of them along with Edgeworth and Franziska. Maya wore the dress she wore on her first date with Nick. She bought another perfume Mia had suggested the previous day. She liked the smell. It wasn’t too strong, but you could still smell the scent of violets it left behind. Satisfied with how she looked, Maya walked out of the bathroom. Then, she saw a wonderful sight. Nick was dressed in a black suit with a black tie. The coat was unbuttoned. Maya froze in her tracks for a few seconds, and then she proceeded on to being held in the arms by her fiancé.

“Well, don’t you look snazzy tonight!”

“Thanks… You look incredible.”

“Thank you.”

Nick was so pleased. His fiancée was in his arms, and he knew she would stay there. She looked so gorgeous. He wouldn’t have things any other way. She moved from his arms and sat on the couch while he stood standing.

“We should get going, Maya. We don’t want to be late.”

“Nu uh. Not yet.”

“What?”

She grabbed his tie and pulled him down so his face was level with hers. She then drew him into a long, passionate kiss. He got down on one knee, not wanting the moment to end. It seemed to go on for hours, possibly days. That’s how they both wanted it to be. Maya had one hand on Nick's cheek, the other in his hair. Her heart was beating so fast. The moment seemed almost magical to her. She needed that kiss. She loved him too much, and he was so handsome that night. She couldn't pass up the opportunity. Finally, they broke.

“Now we can leave.”

They walked up the steps to Edgeworth’s house. Nick rang the doorbell. There was no answer.

“Hmm… they should be home.”

He rang it again. Still no answer. Nick began to worry.

What if something happened to them?

They both nodded and just walked in. The lights turned on and a crowd shouted ‘surprise’. All of their friends were there. Even the elders from Kurain Village attended the surprise party. Nick’s parents were there as well. Maya put her hands on her cheeks. She was utterly surprised. Nick was as well. Edgeworth held up a wine glass.

“Congratulations, Wright and Maya!”

Everyone clapped. Nick then found the perfect opportunity to speak.

“Thank you, everyone!”

They went off into groups and feasted. There was a buffet line set. Nick and Maya were talking to the elders.

“I thought of something.”

“Go ahead, Mr. Wright,” Mystic Meredith allowed.

“Well, Maya’s mother has passed, and we would love for her to attend the wedding. I was wondering if it was possible for someone from Kurain to channel her. We already have someone channeling Mia. We just need someone to channel Misty Fey.”

There was a pause. Maya looked down at the floor and grabbed Nick’s arm.

“I’ll do it,” one of the elders said, “I… um… have a confession to make. I get nervous at weddings. It’s stupid, I know, but it’s just a quirk.”

“Thank you, Mystic Malinda,” Mystic Meredith spoke, “And, don’t worry. We understand and sympathize with your quirk.”

“Yes. Thank you so much. This means a lot to us.”

Maya nodded and mouthed ‘thank you’ to her. She was still extremely sensitive about her mother’s death. It was all she could bring herself to do.

“You are very much welcome.”

Just then, Nick’s parents walked up.

“Hello, again, Maya!” Nick’s mom greeted.

“Hello, Pat!”

“A pleasure to see you again, Maya,” Nick’s father stated, shaking Maya’s hand.

“The pleasure is all mine, Zach.”

Zachary and Patricia Wright were both defense attorneys back in the day. Zach had spikey hair that was kind of like Nick’s.

“Oh, Phoenix, I think this is a wonderful party! I’m so happy you two are getting married.”

“Thanks, Mom. I’m so happy, too. Maya is the woman who makes me happiest. She is the love of my life, and I wouldn’t give her up for anything in the world.”

“Aww, that’s so romantic. How about a kiss?”

Maya and Nick both nodded and kissed.

“I would like to propose a toast!” Edgeworth shouted. Pearl was holding Gumshoe’s hand. She giggled.

“To Phoenix Wright and Maya Fey! If you want to see love, look at those two! They are always expressing that love with their kissing!”

The crowd laughed. Even Nick and Maya laughed.

“Anyway, congratulations to both of you!”

Everyone raised their glasses, and applause broke out. Nick had something to say.

“Thank you, everyone. This has been a wonderful evening. And, yes, Edgeworth, we do like to express our love for one another. Each kiss is a little reminder… a reminder that we will always be there for each other.”

“KISS!” a man shouted.

“Yeah, kiss!” another cried out. Then, the crowd began to chant.

“KISS! KISS! KISS! KISS! KISS!”

Nick and Maya were blushing so much. Then, they agreed to meet with the crowd’s demands and shared a kiss. Then, everyone clapped again. They were enjoying themselves at the party. They were talking with different people, eating different foods, and discussing different topics. Then, an argument broke out between Nick’s parents.

“I didn’t misplace that lottery ticket!” Zach shouted, “You did!”

“Oh, don’t be silly, Zach! It was a winning lottery ticket! It would have been glued to my fingers!”

“OBJECTION! You just contradicted yourself! If it was glued to your fingers, I wouldn’t have been able to so much as touch it!”

“OBJECTION! You probably snatched it out of my hand when you went to take it to the convenience store to claim our winnings!”

Nick laughed and shook his head. His parents did this all the time. He thought it was their way to try and relive the good old days when they weren’t retired.

Nick and Maya were starting to get tired, so they announced they were leaving. Everyone said goodbye. Pearl was staying with Edgeworth that night, so they didn’t need to take her. They stopped at the end of the path in front of Edgeworth’s house.

“Do you think they’re watching us?” Maya asked her lover.

“Knowing them, they’re probably chattering away like hens.”

Maya laughed.

“It was nice of Mr. Edgeworth to throw such a nice party for us.”

“Yes, it was…”

There was a pause, as they stood in front of one another. Only a few centimeters were between their bodies. Maya was looking down.

“Maya, do you have any idea how you look right now?”

She then looked up into his eyes.

“What do you mean?”

“You’re absolutely stunning… more than beautiful, actually. I just…”

“You just what, Nick?”

Nick slowly slid his arms around Maya’s waist. Then, he pushed her body up against his. She made an ‘mmf’ sound because it took her by surprise. Nick understood that. She put her hands on his biceps. They then began to make out right there. Maya didn’t expect it, but welcomed it. Sure, they’ve kissed a lot before, but something was different about this one. She didn’t know what it was, but it seemed more special than any other kiss they’ve had. Even Nick felt this kiss was much more special than any other one they’re shared. Both of them couldn’t even think of why it was so special. Maya let out a small moan. They broke apart. She cleared her throat.

“Wow…”

“Yeah… wow.”

“… W-why’d you do that?”

“Expressing my undying love for you.”

Maya giggled a little. Her heart melted. Even though what Nick said was a reference to Edgeworth’s statement, she knew he meant it. It was so romantic. She was just a little nervous about kissing like that in front of Edgeworth’s house. They could make out all they wanted back at the office.

“We could… express it again,” Nick insinuated.

“Nick, I don’t think…”

But, she was cut off by yet another magical kiss. This time, she slid her arms around his neck and got the full effect of everything. Then, she completely forgot where she was. All she could think about was who she was kissing. That thought alone made her smile on the inside.

“They seemed a little tired,” Patricia stated.

“Apparently not THAT tired, pal,” Gumshoe laughed. They were on the second floor of Edgeworth’s house. He was looking through the window. The blinds were drawn, but he moved them enough so he could see outside.

“What?!”

A few people went over by the window to see what Gumshoe was talking about. They saw Nick and Maya making out. Everyone was grinning. A few giggled.

“Miles, you were right about the kissing thing!” Patricia spoke in shock.

“That isn’t just a little kissing, pal! They’re necking it!”

Patricia gave Gumshoe a tiny back-hand slap on the arm.

“That’s my boy!” Zach said proudly. He was grinning. Pearl giggled.

“I knew Mr. Nick and Mystic Maya loved each other!”

They laughed. Gumshoe picked up Pearl and put her on his shoulders.

“C’mon, Pearl. I think it’s a little past your bed time, pal.”

“Okay, Mr. Detective!”

Later on, when everybody left, Edgeworth and Franziska sat on the couch. Franziska put her hand on Edgeworth’s leg.

“Miles…”

She had taken to calling him by just his first name instead of his full name since they were dating. Edgeworth looked at her.

“Yes?”

“Phoenix Wright and Maya Fey… they are extremely close, aren’t they?”

“You didn’t pick up on that earlier?”

“No, I mean their love… it’s extraordinary how much they love each other.”

“I know…”

Franziska kissed his cheek.

“Listen Franziska. You don’t have to go home.”

“Huh?”

“It must be lonely being all by yourself all the time. You can stay here if you’d like.”

“Miles Edgeworth… I’ll stay here tonight. We’ll see how it goes.”

Edgeworth cracked a smile. This made his night.

“Marsha…”

Mystic Marsha looked up at her daughter.

“What did you call me?”

“I’m not calling you ‘mother’ anymore. You haven’t been a mother to me. You used me for your own selfish reasons. I also want to inform you that you no longer have a bunk mate.”

“What?! This is an outrage!”

“Yes. I am outraged. Goodbye.”

The guard let her out of the cell. He escorted her to another one. Mallory despised her mother. Phoenix Wright and Maya Fey gave her back the soul she had when she was younger. So, on the fifth of September, she vowed to channel Mia Fey for them.

“DARIO! GET THAT CAKE TO THE FRIDGE!”

At “Creative Cakes”, Mario Martini was barking orders. He wanted the wedding cake to be perfect. Everybody there was on the edge. The cake was certainly not a normal one, but they fell in love with the design since it was so unique. Dario and Ricky were carrying the cake slowly to the fridge. Then, Dario screwed up his footing. He tilted his end of the board the cake was on.

“NOOOOO!” Ricky shouted. The cake fell on the floor. The two men stood there, looking at the cake in complete disbelief.

“YOU BASTARDO!!!! Perché l'inferno lei ha lasciato quella caduta di torta?! ORA DOBBIAMO FARLO DI NUOVO!”

They kept yelling at each other in Italian. Then, thunder struck. Mario walked in the room. He saw the cake and looked appalled. His shocked expression quickly changed to an angry one.

“WHO LET MY BEAUTIFUL CREATION FALL TO THE GROUND?!?!”

The two men were shaking. Their boss was infuriated with them.

“I-it was m-my fault, sir…”

”DARIO!!!!!!! YOU WILL BE PUNISHED FOR THIS LATER!!!! WE NEED TO MAKE A NEW CAKE NOW!!!!!”

“Good morning,” Nick said, kissing his fiancée’s forehead. Maya gave a small giggle.

“Good morning, Nick.”

He kissed her cheek. Maya put her hand on her forehead.

“Oh man… last night was amazing.”

Nick smiled. Maya was on her side. She flung her arm over his chest.

“Well, you even LOOKED amazing. That just added to everything.”

She gave him a kiss.

“Thanks you. It was the first time I saw you in a suit that WASN’T blue.”

Nick laughed.

“Just wait until the honeymoon. That’s when the real amazing experiences take place.”

He raised his eyebrows to indicate his point.

“Ah, yes. I know what you mean.”

“Yes. I mean…”

He tickled her stomach. She giggled and fidgeted around. He ended up on top of her, but he made sure he didn’t lay on her with all his weight by supporting his body with his hands.

“I don’t want you to feel rushed, though,” Nick spoke quietly.

“Nick… I don’t feel rushed at all. Believe it or not… I’m ready. I can’t wait to be your wife.”

She said the last sentence with a smile across her face. Maya intertwined her fingers with Nick’s hair. She slightly pushed his head down. He let himself down, and they made out again, though the kiss wasn’t as long as the ones they had the previous night.

“What’s the agenda for today, Maya?”

“Picking up Pearly, talking with the city hall about how many seats we’ll need, and then relaxing time."

"Time with my future wife is time well spent."

Maya grinned at that statement. Nick cupped his right hand on her left cheek. He rolled off of her.

"We really should be getting up."

"Ugh, do we have to, Nick?"

"Yeah."

"Mmm... but I'm not ready to get up yet."

Nick drew her into a kiss. He put one arm under her and the other on top of her so he was holding her while they were laying down. They sat up. Then, they broke.

"How come you always know how to wake me up?"

"Because I love you."

Mallory Fey passed by the cell of Morgan Fey.

"... Hello, Mallory."

She turned to face Morgan.

"Hello, Morgan."

"What are you in for?"

"Murder, believe it or not."

"Attempted murder for me."

"Same with my mom."

Morgan cringed when Mallory said 'my mom'.

"... She isn't my mother anymore..."

Morgan looked up into Mallory's eyes at this point.

"What do you mean?"

"She is so selfish. I cannot associate myself with such a dispicable woman."

Morgan was smiling on the inside. She hated the likes of Marsha Fey.

"Well, I need a bunk mate. If you would like, I could take the place as your new mother."

Morgan outstretched her hand through the bars. Mallory looked down at it and just blinked. She needed someone to talk to, but she made her decision of what type of person she'd associate with.

"No. You and my mother are too much alike."

With that, Mallory and the guard walked away, leaving Morgan Fey infuriated. She always hated Marsha's family. Morgan stole Marsha's husband away from her. She was trying to do the same thing, except with Marsha's daughter. As Mallory walked away, she smiled. She had an idea. Mallory Fey was going to have a little revenge of her own.

“Boss, we’ve been at it for hours,” Dario whined, “Can we take a break?”

“No!” Mario shouted at his colleague, “You WILL do every single recipe in this book! We will work on the wedding cake. YOU will bake all those recipes.”

Dario and Ricky groaned. When their boss was mad, he held his anger as a grudge until compensation was paid. Mario didn’t want them to screw up the cake in any way, so he made them bake a book of recipes as their punishment. They decided to give the cake away to the impoverished community. Mario had a soft spot in his heart for the unfortunate. Ricky ran his finger along some icing and licked what he collected off his finger. Unfortunately for him, Mario witnessed this with his peripheral vision.

“HEY! That cake is for the impoverished! BASTARDO!!!”

Luckily, the wedding cake for Nick and Maya was coming nicely. If it didn’t, Mario would have blown a gasket. By the wedding, their creation would be complete. Mario vowed to it.

Marsha Fey walked into a certain cell. She walked into the cell of Morgan Fey.

“Oh no… no, no, no! I am not going to be in the same cell with this wench!”

“Excuse me, you heartless, wild mare. Did you just call me a wench, Marsha?”

“Yes! W-E-N-C-H!”

“Oh, who’s the hypocrite now?!”

“You are! You are the heartless one! You stole my husband away!”

“Only because you stole mine first!”

“And together, we made Mallory!”

Morgan had no comeback. She did not know w hat Marsha had just revealed to her.

“That’s right! I have the upper hand now!”

“… Why are you in this cell, Marsha?”

“I haven’t the slightest, Morgan…”

“By recommendation,” the guard finally spoke.

“Excuse me?” they both questioned.

“Someone recommended for the two of you to bunk together.”

At that moment, they both had yet another thing in common. The fire returned to their eyes.

“Edgeworth, thank you so much for anything.”

“It wasn’t any trouble, Wright.”

“Mr. Nick and Mystic Maya!”

Pearl ran down the stairs with her bag. She was beaming. Her excitement level must’ve been off the charts.

“Hey there, Pearly! Did you have a good time?”

“I did, Mystic Maya? But, let’s not talk about my time. Did YOU have a good time last night?”

Maya blushed. She didn’t expect the question.

Does Pearly know about Nick and me kissing in front of this house last night?

“Um, yeah. I had a great time last night.”

Nick was blushing as well.

“Well, thanks again for everything, Edgeworth.”

“Anytime, Wright. Good bye.”

“Good bye.”

They left for the city hall. Nick was going to sort out the arrangements. Maya would watch Pearl in the lobby.

“Wait here, my love.”

Nick kissed her cheek. Pearl grinned. He walked into the room where the arrangements would be discussed. Maya sighed and took Pearl to sit in a chair in the lobby. She sat in the chair next to Pearl.

“Mystic Maya?”

“Yes, Pearly?”

“How long is Mr. Nick going to be?”

“I don’t know.”

“Oh…”

The first ten minutes were pretty boring. There was nothing to do to pass the time. Maya decided to shake things up.

“How about we have a little chat, Pearly?”

“Okay! What do you want to talk about?”

“I don’t know… what do YOU want to talk about?”

Maya wished she thought before speaking. She should have expected Pearl’s reaction.

“You and Mr. Nick!”

Maya sighed again.

“Okay. Since we don’t have any other topics, we’ll talk about that.”

“You love him very much, don’t you, Mystic Maya?”

“Yes, I do. He is just so sweet and caring. He’s the one. When he said every kiss is a reminder, he was right. Each kiss reminds me how much I love him… and how much he really loves me.”

Maya closed her eyes.

“It’s funny. Mia and I used to talk about boys a lot… especially when she was dating Mr. Armando. Now, I have to be your Mia. You’ll understand better once you’re older.”

“I’m not getting any older, Maya.”

Maya suddenly opened her eyes and looked at where Pearl was sitting. Pearl channeled Mia. Maya blinked.

“M-Mia…”

“Ready for the wedding, Maya?”

“… Once everything is sorted out, then yes. I can’t wait to be Nick’s wife.”

“I thought so. So, what’s new?”

“Mr. Edgeworth threw us a wonderful surprise party last night!”

“Did he really?”

“Yes. Nick’s parents were there, too. All of our friends were there… except you, of course.”

“I wish I could have seen it.”

“We got one of the elders to channel mother.”

“Well, that’s a relief. I’m glad to hear that.”

“Yes…”

Maya was trailing off. Mia tilted her head.

“Did anything else happen last night?”

“Well… I hope no one saw, though I’m not so sure…”

“Story time, Maya.”

“Well, we were leaving the party. It was getting a little late, and we were both tired. So, we went outside and stood at the end of the walkway to Mr. Edgeworth’s house. We stood close to each other. Then… Nick held me in his arms, and our bodies touched and… we… we made out right there in front of the house.”

Mia was grinning and nodding as Maya was telling her about the details.

“Mmhmm… so…?”

“There was something about the kiss…”

“Something about the kiss?”

“We’ve kissed many times before, but there was something special about this one. I don’t know what it was, but it just seemed… different. It was like I was experiencing a whole new feeling. That kiss was so magical.”

“Did you have any more ‘magical’ kisses after that one?”

“Yeah… not too long after. We broke, and then Nick kissed me again. That time, I practically absorbed myself into the feeling.”

“Did you get any more of these feelings after those two?”

“Yeah. Every kiss that night was like that.”

“Maya… you’re ready to be his wife.”

“I know that…”

“No, I mean you’re ready to be his wife.”

She raised her eyebrows the second time she said it.

“Oh… well, I know I’m ready for that, too.”

Maya was blushing as she said that. She sort of hoped her sister didn’t hear that last part. However, Mia did hear it clearly. She giggled at her sister. Mia loved her sister very much, but just like any other sister, she also loved teasing her once in a while. Maya wasn’t sure if she could get any redder. She was blushing so much.

“M-M-Mia…”

“Oh come now, Maya. It’s obvious. You’re love for Phoenix is very strong.”

Maya still couldn’t stop blushing. She gingerly put her hand up to her lips.

“Maya, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s perfectly natural!”

“Shh…! Not so loud…”

“Don’t worry. It’s okay. Like I said, it’s natural! If you made out with Phoenix like that in public, you are definitely ready for… that.”

Maya managed to break out a nervous smile over her red face.

“Come here.”

Mia hugged her sister.

“You’ll be okay, Maya. I was teasing you.”

“I know, Sis. I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

Finally, Nick emerged from the doors. He was shocked to see his long-time mentor sitting next to Maya.

“Pearls?”

“Yes.”

“Of course. Ready to go, ladies?”

The sisters looked at each other and nodded. Maya spoke.

“Where you go, I follow.”

Nick, Maya, and Mia arrived back that the office. Maya yawned, and Nick stretched his arms.

“Well, I want to check something here. Maybe you two can have a nice little… chat.”

As Mia walked away, she nudged Maya close to Nick with her shoulder. Maya shot her sister a dirty look. Mia saw it, but disregarded it. She felt this was the right thing to do. If Maya was going to marry Nick, she had to share everything she’s feeling with him. Maya put her hands on Nick’s chest and looked up into his eyes. She felt completely lost in them. Nick gave her a warm smile.

“Nick…”

“Yes, Maya?”

“The way we kissed the other night…”

“What about it?”

“Was I the only one who felt that it seemed… different?”

“Different as in…?”

“Like more… I don’t know. Magical?”

“Honestly, Maya?”

“Yes…?”

“… I did feel it was different.”

“Really?”

“Really. I don’t know why it felt the way it did.”

“Mia thinks I felt the way I did because… well… I’m ready to be your wife.”

Maya winked when she said the wife part. Nick tightened his lips and nodded.

“… I think she’s right. It makes sense. I-I… I think I’m ready, too.”

Nick was blushing. Maya was still looking up at him with sparkling eyes. Nick could be so sensitive sometimes, but she liked it. To her, it was cute. She kissed him, and he kissed back. When they broke, Nick leaned his head on Maya’s forehead. She looked down.

Mia was walking in at that moment, but she stopped in her tracks when she saw them having an intimate moment.

“I-I…” Maya murmured, “I’m grateful for you, Nick. You’re always there for me no matter what. You really care about me… and I appreciate everything you do. I love you.”

“Maya… nothing else makes me happier than seeing a genuine smile upon your face. I feel like the luckiest man on the face of the Earth because I have you. All of this is to say one thing. I love you, too, Maya Fey.”

He kissed her. Mia bent her head down and smiled in the hall she stood in.

Those two are the perfect match.

There was a deafening silence in the cell of Marsha and Morgan Fey. They sat at opposite ends with their arms crossed. They didn’t want to speak or even acknowledge each other in any way. Marsha was talking to herself, much to Morgan’s annoyance.

“Who would dare stick me in a cell with this nutcase? This should be a crime against humanity. In the meantime, Maya is probably promenading around the city with her boyfriend.”

Morgan barely heard the last sentence, for her patience with Marsha ran to an all-time low.

“For goodness sakes, will you stop babbling on, woman?!”

Marsha looked appalled at Morgan’s outburst. Then, her eyes narrowed.

“Well, I need SOMEONE to talk to… but I don’t want to talk to you. So, I might as well talk to myself.”

“Why don’t you go hit on the guard or something?”

“Do I look like a prostitute to you?”

“Do you really want me to answer that?”

Marsha tightened her lips. Morgan was going to get in the last word.

“You know what? You don’t belong here.”

Marsha was definitely surprised by this remark.

“I don’t?”

“No… you belong in an asylum.”

“Oh, you heartless woman!”

Then, Morgan remembered what Marsha had said earlier.

“Wait…”

“What?!”

“Did you say something about Mystic Maya promenading around the city with her boyfriend?”

“Well, I didn’t say anything about that to YOU, certainly. However, I did say it to myself.”

Morgan rolled her eyes.

“Is that lawyer her boyfriend?”

“Yeah, how’d you know?”

“He was there last year… in Kurain during the murder incident.”

“Oh, so HE was the attorney. Well, that makes sense.”

“… I hate him. I hate Mystic Maya, too. She’s too much like her mother.”

“That was my thought.”

“When Misty married that lawyer years ago… I knew I had to have a daughter. My precious Pearl should have been the Master of Kurain. Now, there’s nothing I can do. They won’t let me communicate at all. Some stupid court thing…”

“I’m not allowed to communicate either.”

“You’re probably right. She’s probably running around somewhere with that lawyer. Soon enough, she’ll get pregnant and have a successor.”

“She’s probably kissing him right now.”

“Why do you say that?”

“They kiss a lot. They are very much in love.”

Morgan pursed her lips. How she despised her niece! This was a matter where Marsha and Morgan actually agreed. They both had it out for Maya Fey.

Pearl was fast asleep in Maya’s room. She made her sleep with Nick since he was Maya’s ‘special someone’. Maya knocked and immediately walked into Nick’s room that night. He jumped. Maya froze in her tracks. Nick was only in his boxers. He was blushing a lot. Maya laughed nervously.

“I-I’m sorry, Nick. I shouldn’t have done that.”

“N-no, it’s okay. It’s about time you see me sans shirt and pants anyway. After all, I’m going to be your husband.”

Maya smiled.

“Well, it’s a good thing you’re very handsome.”

“Ha ha. I guess…? I don’t know.”

Maya climbed into bed. Nick gave a small smile. He climbed in on the other side. Maya nestled by her lover. They lied on their sides, slightly curling their legs. The two of them held onto each other. Nick decided to speak.

“Only a few more days, my love.”

“I know. It feels like forever, though.”

“You’ll make it.”

Marsha and Morgan were starting to annoy the guard. He sighed at every scream and obscenity they uttered. The argument always found some way to go back and forth. He saw a couple of obscene gestures come from Morgan’s side of the cell.

When will they shut up?

“If anyone was destined to become Master, it was MY daughter!”

“Oh, get over yourself, Morgan! Mallory is not only older, but she has much spiritual power!”

“Nonsense! My precious Pearl has more spiritual power on the tip of her little finger than your Mallory has in her whole entire body!”

“That is a transparent, horrible, despicable lie!”

“Who’s the liar now?!”

“SHUT UP!!!!” the guard yelled, “You two are being disruptive! If you do not cease from bickering, then you both will be put in solitary confinement!”

“That’s better than being with her!” Marsha chimed in.

“Would you like a straight jacket in solitary confinement?!”

She paused before answering. Then, she slumped forward.

“No, sir…”

“Good! Then, I suggest you two speak peacefully, if not at all.”

Morgan hung her head down. She always wondered one question. How can one deal with such a stubborn person?

Nick was talking to Edgeworth on the phone. Edgeworth called with some news.

“What?! What do you mean?!”

“You heard me! Detective Gumshoe got himself into a traffic accident AGAIN!”

“How could he be so clumsy?!”

“Wright, we are talking about Detective Gumshoe…”

“You’ve got a point. But, this is terrible! Can he make it to the wedding?!”

“I’m not sure yet! I’ll have a report for you by this afternoon.”

“Okay, thank you, Edgeworth.”

“Erm… Wright…”

“Yes?”

“There was something else I wanted to ask you.”

“Shoot.”

“Well, I wanted to give Franziska a gift, but I don’t know what to give her…”

“Give her a golden whip.”

“That’s not a bad idea… but, do you have any other suggestions?”

“Just think of jewelry. However, I wouldn’t give her a ring. She always wears those gloves. Why not another brooch?”

“Hmm… good thinking. Thanks, Wright.”

“Anytime, Edgeworth.”

“I’ll talk to you later. Bye.”

“Bye.”

Nick hung up. Maya walked in the room.

“What is it, Nick?”

Nick didn’t know how to tell her at first. He sighed. Then, he just decided to come out with it. He placed his hands on her shoulders.

“Detective Gumshoe got himself into a traffic accident.”

“What?!”

“He and another car collided. It was both of their faults.”

“Will he attend the wedding?”

“We don’t know yet. We hope so. Edgeworth will tell me later.”

Maya sighed.

“It’s one thing after another.”

“What do you mean?”

“Finding people to channel my sister and mother, finding someone to walk me down the aisle, and Gumshoe gets into a car crash…”

“It’s been quite the mess, hasn’t it?”

“Yeah…”

“Hopefully, once we are wed, there will be fewer troubles.”

“That’s one hope I will cling onto.”

Luckily, Maya didn’t know about the fall of the wedding cake. Mario was still strutting around, barking his orders. He wanted all of his cakes to be top-notch. Finishing touches were being put on the wedding cake. Dario and Ricky were only through about thirty-three percent of the recipe book. Dario certainly regretted making the cake fall.

“Boss, can I have a break?”

It was a big mistake to ask that question. Mario turned and narrowed his eyes at his worker.

“I will tell you when you have a break. All you have to worry about is going through that recipe book!!! You are such a boneheaded bastardo today!”

“You’ve been calling me a bastardo a lot lately.”

“Well, you better get used to it! That’s your new nickname!”

Dario groaned. Mario spoke again.

“Don’t screw up my cakes next time!”

Dario went back to putting the icing on a cake. Ricky felt the need to speak his mind at that point.

“You really shouldn’t have asked that…”

“I know! I know! It’s all my fault! Sheesh, I accidentally cause one cake to fall, and I earn the nickname ‘bastardo’!”

“Well, that was pretty klutzy.”

“Shut up! Don’t you have some batter to be mixing?! Get to it!”

“HEY!” Mario shouted, “I’M THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN BARK ORDERS!!!”

Tension was everywhere that day. Everyone felt it, including the future newlyweds. However, they all knew their lives would change.

Maya was talking to Mystic Meredith on the phone. She was curious about the arrangements of Mallory Fey.

“Mystic Mallory is to channel Mystic Mia once she is out of her cell.”

“Is she to pass by the cell of Aunt Morgan?”

“No… I heard that her mother is with Mystic Morgan as well.”

“Wow, really? But, they hate each other.”

“Apparently, someone arranged for them to be in the same cell.”

“Hmm… how did you find this out?”

“Have you forgotten? Matthew works there.”

Matthew was Mystic Meredith’s husband.

“Oh yes, it did slip my mind. That makes sense.”

“Yes. Mystic Malinda is also channeling your mother.”

Maya closed her eyes. The topic of her mother was still sensitive to her.

“O-okay… y-yes… I remember.”

“It was only a reminder. Are you alright?”

“Yes… why?”

“Your voice croaked just now.”

Maya didn’t say anything.

“It’s your mother, isn’t it?”

She paused before answering.

“Tell me, Mystic Meredith. How will I ever be as good of a Master as her?”

“What do you mean?”

“She made changes to the village and everything. I’m only nineteen! I am not ready to be the Master of Kurain yet! But, my mother… she was so s-strong… s-s-she did whatever it took to get the job done even when she was a-away… I could never meet that threshold, let alone surpass it with flying colors! That’s what everyone expects me to do!”

“Maya, you don’t see it at all? You are so much like your mother… we all see it. Even Mystic Marsha saw it. You can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Everybody knows it. Ironically, the only person who doesn’t seem to see it is the woman herself… Ms. Maya Fey.”

Maya gave a small laugh, even though she didn’t know why.

“You probably think I’m crazy…”

“I don’t think you’re crazy. I just think you doubt your own abilities because of the responsibility bestowed upon you.”

“That may be true…”

“I KNOW it’s true.”

“… Thank you.”

“You’re very welcome. I’ll see you on the fifth.”

“Bye, Mystic Meredith.”

“What’s this now?” Mystic Morgan asked. Mystic Marsha was walking out of the cell with the guard.

“I’m going to dinner…”

“I don’t get any?”

“Sure you do.”

The guard placed a bowl of porridge on the bench Morgan Fey was sitting on.

“This is an outrage…”

“Look,” the guard explained sternly, “You two can barely be in the same cell together, let alone the same cafeteria. We are having each of you take turns to go to the cafeteria at dinner. You will go there tomorrow.”

“I am still very much angered.”

The guard nodded and escorted Marsha out. Morgan was in deep thought. She despised Marsha and her daughter. That Mallory Fey… that Maya Fey was no better in her eyes. Such an obnoxious teenager… she was not fit to be the Master of Kurain. She reminded her so much of her mother, Misty Fey. They both fell in love with attorneys, they were both tenacious, and also loved shows directed towards children. Her Pearl was much more fit to be Master. Morgan sighed. She had no way of making the Branch Family in charge of the Kurain society. This would certainly be a failure she would carry to her grave.

Nick went jewelry shopping with Edgeworth. They were looking at necklaces.

“I don’t think she’d wear one, Edgeworth. She has that high collar.”

“True enough… Wright! Look at this!”

Edgeworth pointed to a brooch the size of a golf ball. The stone was an amethyst. There was an encrusting on the top. It was of a whip.

“This is a sign… we are supposed to be at this jewelry shop!”

“I am buying this!”

“If you didn’t, I’d have to buy it myself, despite the fact she’s your girlfriend.”

“Very funny, Wright…”

Edgeworth bought the brooch. It was placed in a velvet box slightly larger than a ring box. They left the shop and walked down the sidewalk.

“You okay, Wright? You seem to be in deep thought.”

“I can’t believe it’s really happening.”

“What do you mean?”

“I always felt this special connection between Maya and me, but… I didn’t expect this so soon. We’ve known each other for three years… three years of wonderful memories and love.”

“Don’t make me sick.”

“I’m sick!”

“Huh?”

“That’s right! I’m lovesick.”

Edgeworth rolled his eyes.

“We’ve been over this…”

“Yeah, I know… but, I never expected to always tangle with the Fey women. I mean, Mia was my mentor… Iris, technically, is my ex… Dahlia tried to kill me… and now my fiancée is none other than Maya Fey.”

“That is quite a coincidence.”

“Is it a coincidence? I think my destiny was always to tangle with the Fey women.”

“Destiny… you believe in it?”

“Yes… don’t you?”

“I guess…”

“Well, if you don’t believe in destiny or spiritual power, then what DO you believe in?”

Edgeworth didn’t speak for a moment. Then, his thoughts were gathered.

“I believe in you and Maya. You two are hope… hope for a more loving future.”

Maya couldn’t sleep the night before her wedding. She couldn’t believe she would be married the next day. She was lying on her bed. Then, she let out a sigh.

Stupid insomnia…

Nick rolled over to look at her.

“Can’t sleep?”

“No… can you?”

“Nope. I’m exhausted, yet excited. The excitement trumps the exhaustion by a long shot. So, I have a feeling I won’t get much sleep…”

“Same here… Ugh…”

Maya held onto him, pressing her face in his chest. His nightshirt was soft. It felt like silk. Nick gripped her back. His thoughts drifted over towards their wedding. Getting less sleep was the mellowest action he could take. Nick was playing with her hair. She smiled.

“I can’t believe this is actually happening, Nick…” she remarked softly.

“Better start believing it because it’s true. Tomorrow, you will be Mrs. Maya Wright.”

“That sounds so wonderful right now.”

Embracing each other, they fell asleep at the same time.

Nick could hear the wedding bells in his mind. The morning of the wedding, he was standing in the men’s room with his hands in his pockets. His anxiety level was quite high. However, that anxiety was also mixed with joy and excitement. Edgeworth walked into the restroom. He gave his friend a smirk.

“You look stressed, Wright.”

“I’m just excited and nervous at the same time.”

“That’s understandable. After all, your wife-to-be is in another room, awaiting the wedding to take place.”

“I know she’ll be beautiful.”

“Don’t make me sick with your mush, Wright.”

“Sorry, Edgeworth.”

Edgeworth gave Nick a pat on the shoulder.

“Congratulations again. See you soon.”

Meanwhile, Maya was getting ready in the room they set up for her near the wedding site. She was getting fixed up. The elders and Mia were helping her out. Mia was being channeled by Mallory Fey.

“Maya, you’re gorgeous.”

“Thanks, Sis…”

Maya sighed. Mia gave her a puzzled look.

“What’s the matter?”

“This is really it… I am getting married to the man I love.”

“I’m sure you’re nervous.”

“Yes, I’m nervous, but I’m really happy, too.”

Maya smiled sheepishly. Mystic Meredith decided to join the conversation.

“Mystic Maya, this going to be such a beautiful wedding! I can’t wait for it to start! You and Mr. Wright make the perfect couple.”

“Thank you, Mystic Meredith.”

There were footsteps, and Maya heard a soft voice she didn’t expect at the time.

“Hello, Maya.”

She turned around to see her mother channeled by Mystic Malinda.

“M-m-m… Mother…”

Maya stood up and hugged the channeled Misty Fey. Tears came running down her cheeks. They embraced for quite sometimes, and then they finally broke. Then, Mia had her turn to hug her mother.

“Congratulations, Maya.”

“Thanks, Mother…”

“Don’t cry. Please… it’s your wedding day. No tears.”

“O-okay, I’ll try… b-b-but, I finally get to see you and you are… you are…”

Misty nodded.

“I know… I know.”

Maya sniffled.

“I’m so glad we could have arranged for you to come.”

“I’m glad as well. It’s a wondrous thing to see your daughter getting married… I’m happy that I could see it.”

Misty smiled. Then, she directed her attention to Mia.

“My dear Mia… you became a lawyer, did you not?”

“Y-yes, Mother…”

“I’m proud of you… took your father’s business, hmm?”

“Ha… well, I didn’t want to fight with Maya over the position… plus, I needed to find out the truth about you and DL-6.”

“I understand. Like I said, I’m proud of you.”

“Thank you… Mother…”

It took some getting used to for Maya and Mia talking to their mother. But, they would worry about that later, for it was time.
