Klavier Gavin was feeling frisky. Not a lot had happened recently, and he really needed to do something to lighten up his currently droll existence. Today was April 1st, after all, a day usually made for mischief.
As he paced his office, thinking of something to do, there was a knock at the door.
“Ein komme!” Klavier called. Apollo Justice entered.
“Ah, Herr Forehead,” Klavier said, resuming his pacing. “How are you?”
“Not bad, not bad,” Apollo replied. “I just thought I’d take you up on that offer to visit.”
“Ja, ja, it’s fine. Take a seat.”
Apollo took a seat, while Klavier continued to walk in circles.
“Something on your mind?” Apollo asked, looking concerned.
“What?” Klavier asked distractedly. “No, no, I’m just thinking of something to do to the Fräulein Detective, seeing as it is April Fools Day,” Klavier responded. “Such things are traditional, no?”
“Groovy potato day…” Apollo mumbled, smiling to himself. When he caught the confused look on Klavier’s face, he quickly stared at his feet. “It’s a long story.”
Klavier sighed. “I just can’t think of anything good enough,” he said. “Could you help me, Herr Forehead?”
They both lapsed into thoughtful silence. Apollo stared around the room, trying to think of something. His eyes landed on a door on the right side of the office.
“Klavier…” he began.
“Hm?” said Klavier, looking up.
“What’s behind that door?”
“That? That’s just a toilet. Why?”
“Well, the times I’ve worked with Ema, I’ve noticed that she drinks and eats…a lot. Maybe-“
Klavier didn’t wait for Apollo to finish his sentence before pulling him close and kissing him.
“Brilliant, Odeko-kun!” he shouted. “I knew there was a brain behind that outsize forehead of yours!”
“O-Odeko-kun?” Apollo spluttered, as Klavier led him in a kind of insane tango around the office.
“OK, I’ll get the Saran Wrap, while you go to the cafeteria and get those little ketchup packets,” Klavier said, finally releasing Apollo. The light of mischief was dancing in his eyes. Apollo did as he was told. He ran to the cafeteria and grabbed a handful of individual ketchup packets. He ran back to Klavier’s office just in time to see him spread plastic wrap over the toilet seat. Apollo folded the ketchup packets and placed them under the toilet seat.
“I called her, pretending to have important business to discuss,” Klavier said, very excited. “She should be there any moment now.”
There was a knock at the door, and Ema Skye walked in. She threw an empty bottle of water in the trash can before speaking.
“What did you want?” she asked. “And why is Forehead Kid here?”
“N-now really-“ Apollo stammered.
“I just wanted to talk to you about the case,” Klavier said, drawing a folder from a drawer in his desk. “Herr Forehead just happened to stop by.”
“Fine, what’s the problem?” Ema asked.
“Well, I was looking through the evidence list, and there seems to be a discrepancy between the autopsy report and the murder weapon. Could you clear this up?”
Ema fiddled with her glasses for a moment before leaning forward to look at the evidence.
Apollo fiddled with his bracelet, waiting. Finally, the problem was resolved, and Ema turned to leave. She was nearly out the door when she stopped.
“Prosecutor Gavin?” she asked.
“Ja?” Klavier replied.
“Could I use your toilet?”
Apollo straightened up as Klavier said “Ja, right through there, Fräulein.”
Klavier sank on the couch next to Apollo as Ema locked the toilet door. They glanced excitedly at each other.
“Saran Wrap on the toilet seat?” Ema’s voice called from within the bathroom. “Did you really think I’d fall for that?”
“Wait for it…” Klavier muttered. A few seconds passed in silence.
Suddenly, there was an almighty shriek from behind the door.
“You glimmerous bastard!” Ema screamed.
Apollo and Klavier burst out laughing.
