CHAPTER ONE: 'A Place Called "Here"'

Time Unknown
Place Unknown

She was floating; at least, she thought she was floating. She didn't know where she was, since all she saw was stark white. She didn't know if anyone else was...here per se.

But then again, where was 'here?' The very word seemed out of place, since she herself had no idea where she was.

Yet she was 'here'...wherever 'here' was, regardless. She looked around once more, trying desperately to get her bearings.

Then...something happened. It was if the place she was floating in suddenly turned into a giant movie theater, with moving pictures, but no words, no sound came from them. No sound whatsoever. It was like watching a silent movie...but the pictures where blurred, so it was hard to figure out what they depicted.

She was floating in the center of...'Here.'

She suddenly realized what was going on. The place, the pictures, the floating, her presence in 'Here'...it all started to make sense.

What the pictures were depicting was sort of hard to figure out, but she managed to get a general idea of what was going on in them. A battle. Suddenly, she started to hear something coming from the pictures.

It started out as a soft, rhythmic thumping, but then gradually grew in volume and intensity. It was then so loud that it felt like 'Here' was shaking...if 'Here' was an actual place.

Then the pictures started to loose their blurriness and became sharper and more defined, as if she were watching HDTV broadcasting.

What she saw in the pictures terrified her to her core. The pictures showed metal (at least, that's what she thought they were made of) beasts, with some actually looking like beasts, totally and utterly destroying each other with...lasers, bullets, missiles, anything that they could carry. She was so scared, so frightened, that all she wanted to do was curl up in a ball and whimper softly.

The pictures suddenly changed. She now saw, or rather, was in...some sort of makeshift military hospital. She saw doctors trying to revive a...person. The person wasn't moving, but she could see that the person was breathing, yet it was shallow.

The walls were adorned with cyan-mailed fists, balled proudly over a white background. It was if they were saluting...something, a cause that she didn't yet understand.

She then tried to scream, but the sound was trapped in her throat.

The person...was her.

She tried to think this was all a dream, so as such, she crushed her eyelids closed, hoping to escape the hell that was 'Here.'

When she opened them back up, she found she was lying down on a hospital bed, the same exact one she saw when she was in the place she called 'Here.'

Suddenly, a nurse came into the room to check on her, and was utterly shocked. "SHE'S AWAKE!" The nurse cried, surprise and shock etched on to her face as one seamless emotion.

Suddenly, the women in the bed began to have flashbacks as doctors rushed to confirm the nurse's statement. Pictures of people flashed across her eyelids as she closed them to block out the doctors' arrivals, then places began to flutter so gracefully those same eyelids.

Then there were words. Some, like 'fear', 'doubt', 'love', 'betrayal', sounded like they were natural to her, as if they were her character traits. Others were names of people she didn't quite know...yet at the same time, she did.

Bikini

Feenie (She couldn't believe it at first that someone would name themselves that...but then, it sounded so cute...it was like a pet-name for someone she loved...)

Phoenix (She suddenly gasped as the name sounded similar to the one before...perhaps the person was one-in-the-same?)

Dahlia (For some reason, the name sent fear down her spine...she just couldn't figure out why yet...)

Edgeworth

But the name she saw the most was the one that showed itself only fleetingly.

Iris. It sounded...like it belonged to her.

Then it hit her. She snapped her eyes open, eliciting odd and concerned looks alike from each of the doctors.

She was that name. All the things that had happened to her, save recently, belonged to that name. All the people she 'knew' were associated with that name.

She suddenly realized who she was. She suddenly realized where she was.

Her name was Iris Hawthorne. She was in a...military hospital. But what military had a blue-mailed fist for a symbol?

That...was a mystery for another time.

For now, she needed to rest for a bit...yes, resting seemed good.

A/N: NEW CHAPTER! Even though I'm not getting any reviews for this story, I feel obliged to...keep it alive somehow. Now, I promised a link or two, didn't I? :godot: That's just a taste of what's to come, my dearies!

Now, for some :odoroki: / :doodle: filler-ness that makes me feel all warm in fuzzy inside! :keiko: (Blame Mia_Fey for it...she practically made the ship my OTP!)

PS: I know I'm making Vera a bit OOC, but that's because she's married now, so she has had time to grow. Plus, I knew I warned you that I fail at canon!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CHAPTER TWO: 'The Family Justice'
25 April 2022
Justice Residence
Near LA
California, USA
Man...Vera's not going to like this...I came in late again... Apollo thought as he gingerly got up from the bed, trying not to wake his bride, Vera. The wife-beater he wore was sweat-drenched, and the sleeping-boxers he had on were practically clinging to him, as if not wanting to let go of his manhood. His hair was matted, and his famous hair-style had been flattened.
God, he felt so guilty. Even though he and Vera were married for the past month or so, he felt like this had been an ongoing problem. It had been when they were dating, and he usually slept on the couch because of this.
He knew why he came in late last night. He was busy talking with Mr. Wright, who called him in to talk about...something. Apollo didn't understand most of it, but Wright kept talking about how a woman he knew (What was her name again? 'Deloris?' 'Eris?' Apollo couldn't be bothered to remember now, not at this current point in time) wasn't acting the same as she used to. Apollo hadn't met the woman before...all Wright did was just mention her whenever he and Trucy were talking.
Wait...aw, crap. Gotta call Trucy to check up on her. Have to work that in...
As he left the bedroom, Apollo heard a soft moan come from the bedroom. Vera, as it happened, had started to wake up.
"Polly...?" She groaned, just beginning to wake up as she lifted her head from her pillow.
Apollo had a sinking feeling of what she'd ask next. "Yes, sweetheart?" He replied, trying to sound not as guilty as he was already feeling. Aw, there it goes!
"How late did you get in?" Vera asked, rubbing her eyes. She yawned and stretched, swing her legs over the nearest side of the bed she and her husband shared. Her blue hair was ruffled, with bits of hair falling in front of her eyes. The back of her nightdress was riding up, giving Apollo a nice view of the back of his wife's upper legs when she got up and walked past him into the kitchen, which he doubly followed suit.
Usually, Apollo got in at a decent time before Vera got dinner ready, but rarely ever did he come in late. When he did come in late, it was a sign that something was up. It was either that he was working on a new case or he was busy with something else. Vera hoped that it wasn't someone else...of course, with all of the time he spent with her, she could put that fear in the back of her mind for now. He was much too loyal for his own good, and she liked it that way, but she couldn't bear to go through another betrayal, not after Kristoph.
"Uh...honey, I don't know...maybe...11:30?" Apollo replied, unsure of how she would react. When he came in that late, she would read him the riot act.
To his surprise or relief (he couldn't tell which), Vera only replied with a simple "Ok." And that was that.
Of course, as with every morning before breakfast, whether he got in late or not, Vera got this prickly feeling that her husband was staring. Not that it bothered her in any way; in fact, she almost found it cute.
Giggling softly, she asked in a low, husky voice, "Polly, are you staring at my legs again?"
====
The kitchen wasn't that small, nor was it grand in size, but it was just right for two people, or at least for the moment. Apollo joked at his wedding that with his current job and Vera's talents being shown to the world via galleries, who had time for kids?
Vera was at the oven, currently making tailor ham and eggs. She jostled the pan a bit to keep the pan she held warm, but it was more for the food than the style. Still, Apollo could say that with his wife's cooking, he could live forever. And that was more than saying she made good food. No, she made excellent food.
Apollo was busy in the cupboards, getting plates and glasses for the two of them. Of course, he grabbed two more plates than he should have, but that was for the food, he kept telling himself. Even though he wasn't cooking this morning, he had to help for this morning. It was his way of saying 'sorry' for coming in late.
As the two began to prepare to eat, Vera couldn't help but notice that Apollo was helping her again. It didn't bother her much, but it was a clear sign that her husband was trying to make up for something. Usually, that 'something' was coming in late, but it was instantly forgiven as soon as he walked in the door and slipped under the covers.
Not even turning away from the stove, Vera sighed. "Polly, honey, please. Stop feeling like coming in late is a crime."
Apollo paused after placing two drinking glasses on the table. How to reply, how to reply...
"I know I shouldn't feel that way, but I can't help it, sweetheart. I can't help but feel like...I'm not there for you when you need me most..." He did the best he could at explaining why he felt as such.
"So you have to carry it over to the morning?" Though it was usually quiet, Vera's voice suddenly gained an edge and Apollo became afraid of that she might use it. He knew that he needed to tread carefully, otherwise his ability to reproduce would be woefully hindered.
"It's not like that...It's just that...I feel like I'm not doing enough to help you..." Great, now he almost guaranteed his wife's verbal explosion.
"As if having a good, well-paying job and making me happy isn't enough?" Oh, goody. Now she was mad. Even though her change in tone and volume was slight, Apollo knew he was in for it...this happened whenever he tried to explain something while the two were dating...
"Sweetheart...I'm trying my best...I'm trying to be a good husband...The thing is...I don't remember if I even called, saying I'd come in late last night..."
"And allow me to jump your memory: You did call last night."
"...Ok, so I did. But--"
"'But' nothing, Apollo! You don't have to apologize for every time you're late coming home!"
Apollo couldn't believe it. Vera never got this angry, not when they were dating...
"I'm sorry for--"
"For what? Calling me? Letting me know that you weren't going to be home in time for dinner? Letting me know that you were safe?"
"--Putting you through this. I know I shouldn't feel guilty about coming home late, but even when I call you to let you know I'm working late, I can't help but feel...guilty that I won't be able to spend time with you..."
Vera sighed heavily, letting out all her anger in one, simple breath. She knew her husband well enough that he'd bend over sideways to make her happy.
Needless to say, the rest of their morning went without another word spoken.
MOAR STORY FOR YOU! :gant: :gant: :gant:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

CHAPTER THREE: 'The Stewart Revelation'

25 April 3140
Lyran Occupation Zone
Stewart
Lyran Commonwealth (Formerly Marik-Stewart Commonwealth)

Iris looked at the mirror she held with in awe. What she saw blew her mind.

Her violet eyes were still there, but her hair was...in a ponytail, with a weird looking hair clip!

The hair clip was made up of three triangles in a row, all pointing downwards, with the innermost triangle colored black, matching her hair. She wanted to scream 'IT'S NOT ME!', but she knew at the same time that, in a sense, it was.

"Oh my God..." she whispered to herself. She knew what the doctor told her...and she almost didn't believe him. Now she wanted to shut her eyes again.

"Leu--Ma'am? Are you..." The doctor began, concerned, "...are you alright?"

"What happened?" Iris demanded, fighting back tears, "What the hell happened?"

"Well...your many-great granddaughter sorta...fainted, and now you're...inhabiting her body."

"What's her name?"

"Leutnant Siri Thornhawke, ma'am."

"How is she related to me?"

"Uh...you're her many-great grandmother?"

"Her what?!"

"I can explain, I can explain! It's just that...her family tree dates back two hundred--no, nearly two thousand years ago...up to the year...when was it? 2021? 2022? Anyway, you're her many-great grandmother on her...mother's side, if my memory serves right."

Iris was stunned. Nearly two thousand years...and to think that she wouldn't last this long! Well, she knew she wouldn't live that long, but to think that she would have a many-great granddaughter...

"So...what now?" she asked, unsure of what to do next.

"Well, ma'am, I think that since you're new to this stuff, I'll give a recommendation for you to Therapy...and see what we can do from there."

Iris could only nod. She was new to this world...but at the same time, she felt that her time in 'Here' prepared her for it.

====

Meanwhile

"What do you mean she isn't ready for duty?!" Rodrick Steiner wasn't very pleased with one of his top liaisons to Loki not being ready for her job. His five o'clock shadow and piercing blue eyes, along with his greasy-blond hair, made it very clear that he was a MechWarrior--and a man with a temper.

"Kommandant Steiner, sir, I can--" one of the doctors tried to explain but was angrily cut off.

"I swear, if you give me anymore crap, I'm going to have your medical license suspended!"

"--Leutnant Thronhawke's many-great grandmother needs to be...broken in, in a sense. She needs to get used to her--er, her many-great granddaughter's job."

"I want Thornhawke's granny up and about, and at Thornhawke's post within forty-eight hours, understand?"

"Sir--"

"Do you understand, yes or no?"

"Mrs. Hawthorne-Wright needs to be in therapy so she can do Siri's job--"

"Do you understand?" Rodrick was losing his patience.

The doctor fell silent.

"Do you understand, yes or no?!"

"Yessir!"

"Good. Now get her to Therapy and start the sessions. I need her doing work, not sitting in some hospital bed moping about."

You have a great start with this story. Your writing is strong and the plot is certainly one I've never seen before, so you get extra points for creativity. :) I quite like this. Please keep it up.

CHAPTER FOUR: 'The Raptor's Claw'

25 April 2022
Lordly Taylor Mall
LA, California
USA

There are some things the Lyran Intelligence Academy doesn't teach, like what to do when things don't go your way.

In this instance, take me. Leutnant Siri Thronhawke of the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces, Intelligence Liaison for the First Steiner Strikers. My job is to act as a bridge between the LCAF and Loki, one of the many branches of the Lyran Intelligence Corps. I do sitreps, updates, and attend briefings for LIC agents.

I was the top of my unit...then it happened. I am now trapped inside my many-great grandma's body, with now idea how I got here in the first place.

The first thing I did was give the poor woman a makeover. And boy, did she need it.

She had some money on her at the time of...whatever had happened to us. But, as I soon found out, it wasn't enough to get a perm. Just a few...God, what was the currency called again?...dollars short. But it was enough to get new clothes and new shoes.

So there I was, walking around the mall, wearing a lavender tank top with jeans and red heels. I hoped it was subtle enough so no one would notice me...

But, with all the men that were staring and wolf whistling at me, my outfit wasn't subtle enough.

I stopped at the food court to sit and stretch my legs. I was beginning to think that I would stay this way forever when a group of teenage girls walked right past me. They were giggling and gossiping, which was what all teenage girls did.

Of course, with my (not my grandma's) training, I was instinctively listening in, hoping to get some details.

"Trucy, you little tramp!" One of the girls joked, her brown hair bouncing up and down as she giggled.

"So what? It wasn't as if the guy wanted anything else..." 'Trucy' responded, obviously not getting the joke, "And besides, Pearl, the guy was drunk! How does that make me a tramp?"

'Pearl' rolled her eyes, and didn't say anything. Smart girl. Not walking into that trap.

There was more chatter until a strapping young man, about the age of 16, walked to the table. He was wearing a green t-shirt, green baseball cap, and green shorts. He had green sneakers on, and had black hair.

'Pearl' recognized him immediately. "CODY!" She jumped into his arms in a big hug. It was cute, to a point. I couldn't help but giggle.

It was then did I preform a quick age check on the little group.

'Trucy' was around 16 years old, 'Pearl' was around 17, and the other girls were about 16 as well.

So Pearl was about a year older than Cody, big deal! It's not like I'm the boy's parent...

But then again, as it has proven me, I could be horribly wrong.

CHAPTER FIVE: 'The Wolf Pack'

26 April 3140

Lyran Occupation Zone

Stewart

Lyran Commonwealth (Formerly Marik-Stewart Commonwealth)

Iris breathed deeply to disguise the fact that her knee were shaking. Meeting with new people always had her like this...

Easy, girl. Just try to relax...

Oh, what she wouldn't give for relaxation right now. Of course, she knew that after she was done this ordeal, it would be a good idea to relax when she got home. If she got home.

"Leutnant?"

Her head snapped up, her jumpiness apparent. "Yes?"

Who she saw she'd mistaken for someone else. He looked like Feenie...yet at the same time, he didn't. His jet black hair wasn't spiked in the back, but his eyes were still brownish...but he didn't look like Feenie at all...but at the same time, the face did.

"And you are...?" Iris asked, curious.

"You should know that," the mystery man snapped.

"Maybe I do, but the face just so happened to slip my mind." If anything, this man would pick up her lie because she never saw the man before...but Siri might've.

"Peh. I am Star Captain Fernando Vickers of the Wolf-in-Exile Clan, but you know that already because you should have looked at my dossier."

"Nice to meet you, Star Captain." Yup. Not My Feenie.

"Hmpf. We should start the briefing already. I am starting to get bored," Fernando urged.

"Yes, we should..." Iris agreed, thankful to get the ball rolling.

As she spoke, a projection activated, giving both Fernando and Iris a full 3D view of the planet, and more specifically, the entire occupation zone.

"As you can see, Star Captain, most of the local militia have fallen back to this general area," Iris explained, saying what she had rehearsed just hours prior while pointing to an enlightened purple region of the projection.

"I know that," was the bored response she got.

"Recently, there's been somewhat of an uprising, if you will. Civilians taking arms against Lyran police forces. We were thinking about including--"

"Clan units to beef up your police force? Peh. As the representative for my Clan in the absence of the Khan, I will not allow that."

"You have an alliance with us, quineg?" Iris hoped that what she learned, when she took all those Clanspeak classes, was paying off now.

"Aff...and what relevance does it have with the current situation?"

"We were thinking about including Clans units in our patrols, yes, but the reason I brought up the alliance is because that I thought you would respect that."

"Again, what is the relevance of it to the current situation?"

"..." Iris was stumped. She should've already explained the relevance of the alliance...but she hadn't. She rehearsed for this moment, for God's sake!

"I am waiting." Fernando didn't seem like a patient man, so Iris had to hustle or else things would go badly.

"Let us move on, shall we?" Best to avoid talking about something you know little...

"Aff. Continue."

"Now, as I was saying, we were thinking about including Clan units in our patrols, and we would like to hear from you."

"You have my opinion, freebirth."

"Yes, but what else?"

"There is nothing else; no extra baggage; no other reason for it. We, the Wolf-in-Exile Clan, will not have our forces...police alongside freebirth scum." Fernando said the words so venomously, so coldly that Iris just had to sympathize with him for a fleeting moment.

Of course, it was only a fleeting moment. "What else is there, you ask? Perhaps the Commonwealth could get a deeper understanding for the Wolves-in-Exile, you know...how each one is different from the other...and, perhaps, your Clan could get a better understanding about the Commonwealth."

"Hmpf."

"Please, at least consider it."

"..."

"Star Captain?"

"Quiaff?"

"Are you alright...?"

"I am fine." Fernando's eyes seemed to narrow at her, "What of it?"

"I just thought you were..."

"Thinking?"

Iris decided to stay silent and let the topic drop like a stone.
