----------------------------------------

My name is Phoenix Wright. I'm a Defence Attorney. It has been eight years since my last trial, the one where I was accused of presenting forged evidence. However, now, thanks to a young, talented defence attorney named Apollo Justice, and my adopted daughter Trucy Wright, I've retaken the BAR exam, and passed. So here I am. About to start my first trial...

May 21st, 9:54 AM
District Court
Defendant's lobby No. 2

(Deep breaths, Wright. Deep breaths.)

"Daddy!" shouted a high voice from the entrance.
"Huh? Oh, hi Trucy." smiled Phoenix, as he examined his new badge.
"It's been a while since you were in this position wasn't it, eh?"
"Yeah. To be honest I can't wait to get in there. So maybe if-"

"HEY, PAL!!"

A large, scruffy man in a green trenchcoat ran in, carrying a carrier bag.

"Detective Gumshoe! What are you doing here?!" exclaimed Phoenix, surprized by the sudden entrance of the detective.
"I came to wish you good luck, since it being your first-in-a-while trial. And especially since she's in that position..."
"So... remind me, who's the Prosecutor of this case?" asked Phoenix.
"You're in luck, pal. Winston Payne's headin' up the case," laughed Gumshoe. "That reminds me, where's Maggey? Can you give this to her, pal?

He took a yellowish cup out of the bag, and handed it to Phoenix.

"Sure thing, Detective."
"Thanks, pal. But if you get her a guilty verdict... you're gonna have to answer to me!"

Then he ran off.

"So... a yellow cup, eh?" muttered Phoenix, as he examined the cup.
"Speaking from a magician's point of view... I don't see how anyone would want that." sighed Trucy
"How is that speaking from a magician's point of view? I wouldn't want that on my grave!"

"Aaaaahh! My cup!"

Maggey Byrde sprinted towards them.

"Hello, Mr. Wright! Hello, Trucy!"

She quickly snatched the cup from Phoenix and gazed at it.

"So...um...what's with the cup?"
"It's my good luck charm! It will help me through the trial today." she replied.
(Did it ever occurr to you that I might need a good luck charm, to help me, while you do nothing at all while sitting in that chair?) thought Phoenix.

"I think we have to go in now." said Trucy, excitedly.

"Aah, well, It's all or nothing!" Phoenix remarked.

Court Record:

Evidence:

A: Attorney's badge- It's been a while since I've worn one of these. However my badge number has gone waaaaay up!

C: Revolver- The murder weapon. Fired twice at the scene of the crime. Currently contains 3 bullets.

D: Shirt- The shirt the victim was wearing at the time. It's white enough to make the blood shine through.

May 21st, 10:01 AM
District Court
District Courtroom No. 2

The Judge pounded his gavel.

"Court is now in session for the murder of Christopher Tallmaz." announced the Judge. " Mr. Wright?"
"Y-yes, your honor?" Phoenix replyed.
"This is your first trial as defence in around eight years, correct?
"That is correct, your honor."
"And you are sure you know what you're doing?"
"Yes, definatly, your honor."

The Judge nodded his head.
"Then we shall begin. Mr. Payne, your opening statement, please."
"Yes, your honor," replied Payne. He had already started to sweat, just by looking at Phoenix.
"The victim was shot twice at point-blank range with this Revolver, which bears the defendant's prints. I have the Autopsy Report here. The victim was shot twice, once in the left arm, and again in the head. "
(Autopsy Report added to the Court Record)
"It may be important to know, that the victim and defendant worked together in the same library, so it is possible that they may have had a disagreement." He concluded.
"Hmm... That's true.
(Poor, poor Maggey) thought Phoenix.

*Gavel bang*

"The Prosecution may call their first witness to the stand." announced the Judge.

A little less than five minutes later, Detective Gumshoe took the stand.

"Name and occupation, witness." said Payne.
"Dick Gumshoe, homicide detective." he replied.
"So, where and what time was the murder?"
"Between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM on May the 19th in the Public Park. The victim was shot twice and was killed instantly on the second shot."

*Gavel bang*

"Detective, you may begin your testimony." called the Judge.
(Knowing Gumshoe, he'll have more holes in his testimony than Swiss Cheese.) Phoenix thought.
"Good luck, Daddy." whispered Trucy.

-Witness Testimony-
-Dick Gumshoe-
-The Night of the Murder-

The murder occurred between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM.

Maggey-I mean, Ms. Byrde's prints were found on the gun which was used.

The victim, Christopher Tallmaz was shot twice after leaving his workplace. Fibre damage was found on the back of his jeans.

The second shot landed in his head, killing him instantly.

According to an X-ray of his skull, the bullet hit him square in the forehead!

The back of his skull wasn't damaged, so the victim must been on his back when he died.

"Where was the gun when it was found?" asked Payne.

"Ooh...well...Ms. Byrde handed it in herself..." replied Gumshoe.

"Whaaaat?!" screamed Phoenix, shocked. (Why didn't she tell me?!)

The crowd again became shouty.

"Order, Order!" shouted the Judge. "My, my. This certainly shows the defendant's guilt."

He stroked his beard.

"Mr. Wright. Your Cross-Examination, please." called the Judge.
(Hmm...I think he's trying to defend her by lacking on the details. Somehow, I've got find out more...)

-Cross-Examination-
-Dick Gumshoe-
-The Night of the Murder-

The murder occurred between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM.

Maggey-I mean Ms. Byrde's prints were found on the gun that was used.

HOLD IT!

"Could Ms. Byrde's fingerprints touched the gun when she handed it in?" questioned Pheonix.
"No, pal. She handed it to me personally in a plastic bag. She was even wearing gloves at the time." came the reply.
"Are you absolutely sure it was her?"
"Yeah, pal! I think I'd recognise someone who I'd known for around 10 years!" he shouted.
"Just asking." said Phoenix, who had already fallen into a cold sweat. "By the way, which hand was it?"
"It was her left hand, pal."
"Witness! Continue with your Testimony!" shouted the Judge.

OBJECTION!!!

"You have got to be kidding surely. I mean that last piece of testimony was something of a joke." said Phoenix.
"Huh? But I-"

OBJECTION!!!

"Your honor, the defence is badgering the witness!" wimpered Payne.
"Overruled. Continue Mr. Wright."
answered the Judge.
"Detective, look at this." He showed a photo of the bloodstained shirt. "Explain to me, how someone lying flat on their back would produce so much blood on their front!" shouted Phoenix, pointing his finger straight at the Detective.

Yet again the crowd erupted in questions and remarks.

"Order, order in the crowd-I mean court! Mr. Wright, what are you saying?" shouted the Judge.
"I'll explain. Here's what I think happened. The victim was shot in the back of his leg. Then he collapsed on something, like a bench. Then he turned around to face his attacker, and was then shot in the head. Gradually, the blood rolled down his shirt, staining it." explained Phoenix.
"Hmmm...yes that is possible." agreed the Judge.
"Yeah, you're right, pal. Here, look at this photo."

He showed the judge a photo of Tallmaz, slumped on a park bench, with blood oozing from his head and staining his plain white shirt.

"Very well. The court accepts this into evidence." declared the Judge.
(Crime Photo added to the Court Record)
"Detective, you of all people should know that lying in court is a very serious offense! If you lie any more, I will hold you in contempt!" he bellowed.
"Y-yessir, sorry sir..." wimpered Gumshoe.
(Edgeworth's gonna have a field day with his salary when he hears about this!) thought Phoenix.

*Gavel bang*

"Mr. Payne, your next witness, please." said the Judge.
"Uhh... your honor? I'd like to request a recess, so I can prepare my witness, please." he wimpered, yet again.
"Very well. Court will break for a 10-minute recess."

"That poor detective. He's just trying to protect his friend." said Trucy.
"Don't I know it. Reminds of that case in Trè Bien." replied Phoenix.
"Where?"
"I'll tell you later."
(Now I'm near. I just need to keep pushing forward. Now, I wonder who this witness is...?)
