She was at the police station investigating a case when she saw him. A young officer, a loudspeaker in his hand, saluting her a little over-enthusiastically. She allowed herself a small smile and brushed on past him.
Several minutes later, she bumped into him again, in the records room.
‘No, no, no! Don’t shut the … door…’ He sighed as the door swung shut behind Mia.
‘What’s wrong?’ she asked.
‘I… um… lost the key. When the door shuts, it locks itself…’
‘Oh.’ She looked around the room, unsure what to do. Feeling useless, she grabbed the door handle and tried forcing it open. The young police officer was right; they were locked in. Next she tried banging on the door and shouting, but nobody seemed to respond. The young man honked his megaphone, but still no one came.
‘Well… looks like we’re stuck in here, huh?’ she sighed, leaning back against the filing cabinets.
‘I… I’m sorry!’ he sobbed, ‘I won’t do it again, I promise!’
‘It’s OK,’ she laughed, ‘I’ve got plenty of time to waste… my trial isn’t until next week. I’m sure someone will rescue us soon…’
‘I hope so,’ he said, looking at his feet pathetically, ‘Er… what’s your name?’
‘Mia Fey, attorney at law,’ she said in a business-like voice, ‘And you?’
‘Erm… Mike Meekins, police officer… at law.’
‘Nice to meet you, Mike,’ she smiled and shook his hand. He blushed.
After a few minutes, a conversation had started up between them. Mia asked Mike questions, just to pass the time, and he seemed happy to tell her all the details of his dull life.
‘So, Mike, do you have a girlfriend?’ Mia asked.
‘Um… no,’ he confessed, ‘Don’t tell anyone, but… I’ve never actually had a girlfriend!’
‘Oh!’ said Mia, a little surprised… although on second thoughts, it wasn’t really that shocking that this young man hadn’t had much attention from the ladies.
‘I always wonder what it would be like… just to kiss a girl, one time…’ he mumbled, blushing heavily.
‘I guess you haven’t had much practice, then!’ Mia laughed. Mike just looked upset, and she felt mean for teasing him.
‘Hey, cheer up! I’ll tell you what… seeing as we’re stuck in this cupboard together for the foreseeable future, why don’t you practice on me?’
Mike looked up, his eyes wide. ‘R-really? Do you mean it?’
‘Of course!’ she said. She hadn’t had much kissing action since Diego, and to be honest she felt that a little fumble in a cupboard would be good for her, even if it was with this strange inexperienced policeman.
‘Um… how do I start?’ he asked nervously, fiddling with his police ID card, which was hung around his neck.
‘You’ve never kissed a girl before, right?’ Mia said.
‘Never.’
‘Ok… close your eyes.’
Mike squeezed his eyes tightly shut. ‘Will it hurt?’ he asked, trembling. Mia just laughed and lent forwards to kiss him on the lips. At first his mouth was tense, then he breathed out through his nose and let his lips relax. He felt slightly alarmed by the strong scent of Mia’s perfume and the warm closeness of her body, but he found that he enjoyed it.
After a few seconds Mia removed her lips from his.
‘There, that wasn’t so bad, was it?’ she said, smiling at him as he shuffled his feet.
‘It was very nice. Thankyou,’ he said shyly, ‘Um… I hope you don’t mind me asking, but can you do those kisses like they do in the movies? I’d really like to try one of those!’
Mia laughed at his funny facial expression and lifted his hands to place them on her shoulders. He shut his eyes again and she bent her head to kiss him. His lips were soft and unresisting against hers, so she opened her mouth and ran her tongue across his lips. She move back a little to free her mouth and whispered in his ear.
‘You’re supposed to open your mouth too, Mike,’ she murmured.
‘Oh! Do I really have to…?’
‘Yes!’ she giggled, kissing him again. Eagerly he opened his mouth wide, wet on her face. She guided his lips with her mouth so that they fitted together, and moved her tongue into his mouth. He jumped in surprise and their teeth clashed together. She laughed and launched herself at him again, beginning to enjoy this experience. Mike tried to pull away but she had an iron tight grip around his neck. Her tongue slipped into his mouth again, sliding along his teeth. He was overwhelmed by the feeling and the taste, and felt like he was dreaming by the time she stopped kissing him.
‘Enjoying it?’ she asked teasingly.
‘Well, if I had to label it as enjoying it or really enjoying, I would say I-’
Mia interrupted him by twirling him round and pressing him against the filing cabinet. His breathing was fast and hot on her face.
‘Mike, don’t let me do all the work,’ she whispered breathlessly, ‘You need to make some moves too, OK?’
‘But what am I supposed to do?’
‘Don’t think about it, just let your instincts take over…’
Mike scrunched his eyes closed, then reopened them, looking determined.
‘Ok! Instincts only from now on! I can make some moves too, you’ll see!’
He gulped and put his hands round Mia’s waist, swinging her down onto the floor. His lips sucked onto hers, kissing her wildly and passionately. Mia lay there in shock as his damp mouth kissed her lips, her cheeks and her neck. One of his hands was running through her hair, the other one down her top.
‘This… is… really exciting, isn’t it, Miss Fey?’ he gasped.
She raised an eyebrow, about to make some kind of rude comment; after all, she’d had experiences much more exciting than this one. But she remembered her first time, and how silly and excitable she’d been, so smiled encouragingly. After all, it wouldn’t hurt just to play along with him, right?
She took off his police cap and balanced on her head, slithering backwards to sit up in front of him, slightly unzipping her jacket.
‘This is the part where you undress me, Mike…’
He sniggered childishly, then remembered to let his instincts take over. His instincts told him to carry on unzipping her suit, so he did. Meanwhile, Mia reached up to unbutton his shirt and it fell to the floor, revealing his pale, skinny chest. He stared down at her hungrily.
Poor kid, she thought, he’s probably never seen a naked woman before…
‘Er… Miss Fey?’ he said suddenly, pulling something out of his trouser pocket, ‘Will we need… these?’ He showed her a box of condoms. ‘I always carry these around… just in case… you know…’
Mia just laughed. ‘Wow… prepared to the extreme!’
She pushed him back and lay on top of him, her dark hair sweeping across his bare chest, smiling seductively. He gulped, feeling like he might explode as he looked up at her half-nakedness. She gave him the most amazing kiss, even better than the movies, and continued to undress him. Mike felt like he must be in heaven.

All too soon for Mike, it was over. He pulled on his crumpled uniform as Mia zipped up her suit and smoothed down her hair.
‘Mike, you have to swear not to tell anyone about this, OK?’ she said, tapping him on the nose.
‘Right! I promise, Miss Fey, I won’t tell a soul about this! I’ll carry this secret to the grave!’
Suddenly, the door burst open, and Detective Gumshoe walked in.
‘Oh! Sorry, pal…I heard that the door was locked, but I didn’t realise anyone was in here!’
‘It’s OK, Mike and I have just been chatting while we waited for someone to rescue us!’ Mia said.
‘Yes, sir! We were only chatting! Honest!’ Mike babbled very unconvincingly, blushing.
Mia glared at him, and then quickly hurried off.

After she’d got out of the building, she pretty much forgot about her little encounter with Mike. It didn’t mean anything – she was just happy to give him some practice for if he ever got a girlfriend. After all, she’d always liked helping people, and this was just her way of helping Mike.
She expected that Mike wouldn’t think any more of it either, but when she got to the office the next morning, Mike was waiting on the doorstep with a bunch of flowers.
‘Miss Fey! It’s me, Mike!’ he said happily, ‘I brought you these! Thank you very much! I’d like to take you out for dinner to show my eternal gratitude, I’ve already booked us a romantic table for two! And maybe afterwards you could come round to my house? And I’ve got a friend who has never been very lucky in love, he needs some practice too, I can take you to meet him! Isn’t it great?’
Mia groaned in horror. What had she gotten herself into?
