Turnabout Knockout
-----------------------------------------
A woman sat in a room, across from her was another man with his head on the table. He was already dead and if she told anybody then they would suspect her right off the bat.
She left the room in a hurry and pulled out her cell phone. "Hello? 911? Get me the police and the ambulance!"
She hopped that she the blame wouldn't be put on her and that the police would listen to her.
------------------
(District Courthouse 10:00am, January 19)
A man, no taller than 6'1 walked into the building .His skin was brown and he hand spiked up black and white hair in a messy spiky afro-ish like style. His clothes consisted of dark blue pants and a blue shirt along with a dark blue jacket that went down to his ankles.
"
Okay...calm down Sada......First time in court. Must not pass out..must not crack under pressure..must not run away. What's to worry about? It's only a murder trial and if you lose then your client goes to jail for murder....damn, I just made myself even more nervous." he thought to himself as he sat outside the court room.
"You're an attorney, and yet you look so suspicious." said a man wearing a white suit with short black hair. The small smile on his face told anyone who looked at him that he was full of confidence.
"Ah...Mr. Kilum...what are you doing here?" asked Dante.
"I'm here to help you during you're first trial, remember?" replied Kyle Kilum.
"Oh yeah..."
"No why are your legs shaking again? Having thoughts about running away?"
"No, but i'm just nervous...if I mess up even a bit then it's over!"
"Sada calm down. If you let the judge see you like that then you won't win points with him easily."
"I'll try....."
"Don't try, achieve. So have you talked to you're client yet?"
"No, I haven't seen her all day."
"Well i'm here now." said a woman with short dirt blond hair. She wore a blue jean jacket around a red t-shirt along with blue jeans.
"Ah, Ms. Mason. Nice to meet you." said Kyle.
"Hey there Nikki." said Dante.
"So you'll win right?" asked Nikki as she looked at Dante with a dull expression.
"I cant guarantee i'll win."
Nikki grabbed him by his shoulders and began to shake him."You must win! I didn't do it! You believe me right!?"
"Ms. Mason, I think that you might want to stop shaking Dante before you break his neck off." said Kyle.
"O-Of course I believe you," said Dante as he rubbed his neck. "But I can't guarantee i'll win this!"
"You have such low self-esteem.....you haven't changed since high school." said Nikki as she walked away.
"Well it seems like it's time for the trial to begin.See you there." said Kyle as he walked into the courtroom. Dante sighed and followed him, hopping that the trial would go well.
-----------------------------
(District Courtroom)
The judge, Prosecutor, and the defence all stood at their stands. All three were ready the get the trial over with, especially Dante.
"Court is now in session for the trial of Nikki Mason." said the judge.
"The defense is ready, Your Honor!" said Dante is a high pitched voice.
"The Prosecution is ready Your Honor." said Winston Payne.
"The defense is Mr.....Dante Sada, right?" asked The Judge.
"Yes sir." he replied, now in a low pitched voice.
"I assumed that Kyle Kilum would be the defense today, and you are just a rookie. Are you sure you can handle it?"
"Yes sir." his voice switched to high pitched once more.
"Sada, I suggest that you get you're voice under control." said Kyle.
"S-Sorry..."
"Well now, Mr. Payne. Your opening statement please."
"Well, well, well....another new rookie eh? Don't worry kid, this will all be over quickly." said Payne with an arrogant smirk.
"
I didn't know old people liked to trash talk...." thought Dante.
"Now i'd like to proceed with a summary of the events on the day in question. The incident occurred in the back office of a small boxing gym, Gray's Gym was the name. The victim was a new rookie in the pro leagues, Vincent Colts. He had just received his licence two months ago and his third match ended in less than a minute." Payne show a picture of a african-american man with low black hair.
"Ah yes. I think I remember reading about it in the paper. "Rookie knocks out opponent in thirty seconds in the first round." A very surprising feat for a rookie." commented the Judge.
"Next we have a photo of the crime scene," Payne showed a picture of Vincent leaned over a table with a pool of liquid under his face. "Police arrived on the scene not long after the crime was committed. The cause of death seemed to be a cut to the throat."
"Very well, you may add it to the court record." said The Judge.
"Are you ready Sada?" asked Kyle. "The battle begins now."
"The cause of death was a cut to the throat by this chain." Payne presented a gold chain to the Judge.
"A small necklace chain? How can you murder someone with this?" asked the Judge.
"It's quite possible Your Honor. Since the cause of death was a slash across the throat."
"I see. You may call your first witness."
"Very well. Will Ms. Nikki Mason come to the stand?"
Nikki stepped onto the stand, looking annoyed at the whole fact that she was here to begin with.
"Name and occupation please."
"Nikki Mason, reporter for Sports and Stuff."
"Hm, what other things besides sports do you report on?" asked the Judge.
"Stuff like politics, social stuff, the latest trends and all. Now can we hurry this up, i've got a date latter on. Here's an article I did about Vincent."
"Th-thank you. You may give your testimony."
"Okay then. It went down like this."
"Get ready Sada. Here comes her testimony, you don't know what to do right?" asked Kyle.
"...What was it again?" replied Dante.
"*Sigh*...Press and present whenever you can. If she's lying then you could find you way into the truth."
"Okay...
Nikki lying I hope shes not..but then again it's not a thought that you can look over."
"Well my boss asked me to get an interview with Vincent on that day."
"What was so important about that day?" asked Dante
"It was the day after his third match. Who didn't want to get an interview with him after that?"
"So why didn't you just get one with him on the night of the fight after it was over? I'm sure he was well enough to go through with it?"
"Because there were already too many reporters trying to get one, and his trainer said that he wasn't taking interviews at the time when I asked him so I told him i'd come back the day after. There was another guy's fight too..but it wasn't really that important."
"
That's just cold.... I see, so you went to the gym the next day?"
"Yep... but there was something wrong when I got there."
"Something wrong? Like what?"
"His trainer said that someone else had just interviewed him."
"What's so strange about that?"
"I was the only one he told to get an interview the day after. Unless someone was listening in on us then I thought something was up."
"....Although this might not matter..what was his trainer doing at the time?"
"He was getting ready to leave. I guess that he was left in charge and besides him, me and Vincent were the only ones there. He said that he was in the next room waiting for me so I walked in."
"And then what?"
"When I got in there it looked like he fell asleep waiting for me. I woke him up and we talked for all of thirty minutes."
"Nikki, when did you start the interview?"
"I think it was around 5:30."
"Objection!" yelled Dante "You couldn't have started the interview and talked for thirty minutes because the Court Record says that the time of death was 5:00!"
"Eek!"
"Heh, heh, heh....thanks for pointing that out for us kid. That really helped, in proving her guilty." said Payne.
"Wh-Whaaaaat!?"
"I didn't do it! Here's what really happened."
"Mr. Mason, please tell us the truth this time." said the Judge.
"Okay. When we started the interview we got into an argument about how he was so strong and just a rookie. I asked him if he was on roids or any type of strength enhancing drug."
"Roids? What are those?" asked the Judge in curiosity.
"Roids are shot for Steroids I believe Your Honor." said Kyle.
"Steroids....what are those?"
"An illegal drug that's used in the sports world. Some people use them to gain better athletic abilities. But you can be kicked out of sports leagues by using them."
"I see, so what was his reply?'
"He got really mad for some reason and we got into a big argument."
"And is that when you jumped up and attacked him with the chain?" asked Payne.
"Objection!" yelled Dante as pointed forward. "How do we know that it was her chain? Maybe it was his and he dropped it after he was murdered?"
"Ack!"
"That is a good point Mr. Payne. Care to explain this?"
"W-well maybe he wore it around his neck and when she attacked him she -"
"Objection! If you're going to say what I think then it's impossible! She wouldn't be able to get behind him and choke him like that."
"How so?"
"I think I see what Mr. Sada's getting at. If you compare body size then it's is impossible because Mr. Colts is a very big and agile person. She wouldn't be able to do that without him stopping her." said Kyle.
"This is true, how did she do it Mr. Payne?"
"Hn...we still have a witness that claims that she did it."
"What?" said both the Judge and Dante.
" I'd like to call Mr. Harvey Lee to the stand.
A 6'2 man with blond hair, wearing a black jacket and red pants walked onto the stand.
"Name and occupation?"
"Harvey Lee. I'm a pro boxer and pharmacist on the side."
"Mr. Lee, can you tell us what you saw on the day that Vincent Colts died?" asked the Judge.
"Of course, I want to find the person that killed my best friend and sparring partner. Now on that day I recall it bein around 4:00 in the afternoon. I saw Vincent go into the office and take a seat at the table. I asked him and he said that he had an interview."
"So what did you do after that?' asked Dante.
"I decided that he shouldn't wait on an empty stomach so I walked into the kitchen and fixed him something."
"Wait, why is a kitchen in a boxing gym?"
"Well we do get hungry sometimes and some of us can cook. Is it so strange that athletes have to eat to keep up energy?"
"That's true Mr. Sada, it's just like how you can't defend on an empty stomach." claimed the Judge.
"
I...don't think so." thought Dante.
"I made him a sandwich and some orange juice and sat it on the table and then I left the room. The next thing I know at 5:00 that girl came out of the room and called the police, I peeked into the room and saw him dead. We've even got a picture that the camera in the room took." he said as he pulled out a picture of the crime scene before the police arrived.
"......Damn..that alibi...has no contradictions!" said Dante.
"Don't give up yet Sada." said Kyle in a calm voice.
"What? But his alibi! It's-"
"Sometimes you have to look at the evidence to find the contradictions."
"..Okay..let's see what we got.
There's the photos..the one Payne presented and the one that Lee presented..but what's so different about....That's it!" he smiled and looked at Harvey.
"What's with that smile?" asked Harvey, a bit concerned that Dante was smiling at him.
"Objection! There's a huge contradiction here, and it's in the photos."
"Where are you going with this?" asked Payne.
"Take a look at both pictures and you'll see."
"...Wait..I see it as well!" said the Judge.
"Good then you can tell that the in the photo that Lee took that there's no blood under his face, but if you look at the one that the police took then you'll see that there's blood under the body!"
"Ack! But how is this possible?" asked Payne, clearly confused.
"If I may put a theory out here Your Honor. It's possible that either the blood leaked from his neck really slowly, or that he didn't die from the cut at all, he may have been dead before then" said Kyle.
"Uh..Mr. Kilum where are you trying to go with this?" asked Dante.
"Well, I know I should have presented this earlier..but at the scene of the crime yesterday." Kyle held up a small bottle of pills in a plastic bag.
"What's that?"
"It's a bottle of cold medicine we found in the gym ."
"So what about it?"
"Do you know where we found this? In the kitchen."
"Wh-What!? Where are you going with this?"
"Yes, I think we'd all like to find out what Mr. Kilum is trying to say." said the Judge.
"As much as i'd like to, I think i'll leave the rest up to Mr. Sada."
"What!? Why me!?" said Dante, his voice going high and low once again.
"Calm down Dante you'll need a clear mind to think this though."
"
Okay just calm down....now how was it possible that the cold medicine is relevant to the case....Mr. Kilum said that there was another way that he could have died but what is it?" thought Dante as he tapped his fingers against the table.
"Well Mr. Sada, do you have a reason as to how the victim could have died, besides being slashed across the throat?" asked the Judge.
".....! Actually I think I do. It's possible that Vincent Colts may have been poisoned!"
"What!?"
"H-how is that possible!?" asked Payne.
"Well lets look at it like this. Maybe while you were making his food, you slipped some of those pills into the food and drink and gave it to him to eat, without him noticing."
"Objection! How would he be able to put it in there without him noticing!? Those pills aren't something you can hide so easily."
"Objection! What if he grounded them up and put them in the sandwich or let them dissolve in the water? It's quite possible if you think about it!
Hell yeah Sada! Now you've got him right where you wan-"
"Hold on a second. If all this is true...then how come he died at 5:00 instead of right when he ate them?" asked Harvey
"Damn!
Forgot about that! And just when I was on a roll too!" He looked at the bottle of pills. Hopefully he'd find something that would prove his theory. He looked on the back of it and saw a small flap. He peeled it off and found extra directions and information. As he read it him face showed a smirk of victory.
"What's with that smug look?"
" Mr. Lee, I have the evidence to back up my claim. Take a look at these directions."
"So..what about them?"
"It says that the effects of the pills don't kick in until an hour latter!"
"N-Noooooo!"
"Now explain to us how you couldn't have done it, i'd like to see that." said Kyle, glad that his student had figured it all out.
"Heh, heh, heh. If your so smart then Mr. attorney. Then tell us...what's my motive?"
"Crap!"
"Exactly! Why would I kill Vincent? He was my best friend!"
Dante thought for a second. He had somehting that could back up his claim but it was a gamble."Mr. Lee....when whas your last match?"
"Monday. Why?"
"A day before the murder I see. Now let me ask you this, did you get any praise and/or fame for winning?"
"Well no.."
"How long have you been boxing?"
"Two years."
"How long has Vincent been boxing?"
"Two months."
"Then....it would be in-human to say that you weren't jealous!"
"What!?"
"You were jealous that a new rookie came and stole the fame and spotlight from you in just a few months. You wanted to be on the top once again. So out you waited for your chance to take him out by acting friendly until you could put your plan into action. Now what do you have to say about that?"
".........NOOOOOOOOOOO! GIIIIIIVVVVEEE MEEEEE BAAAACCCKKKK MYYYYYYYY FAAAAAAMMMMEEEEE!" yelled Harvey as he slammed his hands against his chest like an ape. "He had no right to take what was rightfully mine!!!!!!"
".........
Jealousy...shows its ugly head once more...in my case" thought Dante, suppressing memories of the past.
--------------------------------
"So what has happened to Mr. Lee now?" asked the Judge.
"He's been taken to be processed for his arrest." said Payne, not believing that he lost once more to a rookie.
"Well then..in the trial of the death of Vincent Colts. I declare Nikki Mason....Not Guilty!"
"Yes!" said Dante.
"Good job Sada." said Kyle.
----------------------------
(District Courthouse, lobby. 12:00pm)
"Man i'm glad that the trial's over." said Dante as sat down.
"I'm impressed Sada. I didn't really think that you had it in you." said Kyle.
"
Well thanks for the faith! But you helped too Mr. Kilum."
"Yes....but I won't always be there to help." said Kyle, saying the last part in a low whisper.
"Dante!" He looked over and saw Nikki running towards him. Maybe she was going to thank him for defending her. *Crack* Maybe not...since he just met the floor thanks to a flying kick.
"Owww...what was that about!?" he replied, rubbing his nose.
"You put me on the spot like I was a criminal! I let you stay with me and this is how you repay me!?"
"Mr. Kilum.....some help here?" he looked over and saw Kyle looking at his watch. "Don't pretend that you don't see this!"
"Oh..I didn't see you there Sada." replied Kyle.
"Don't ignore someones cry for help!"
"Sorry i'm not a member of the EBA."
"Ass.....
Well my first trial is over....just hope that the next ones to come will be a lot easier than this.....I wonder if they would be proud though?(Dante's POV)
My name is Dante Sada...and this is the beginning of my story...hope it has a happy ending....
