"I'm sorry. I'm such a horrible brother. I left you behind... I'm so sorry.... please forgive me..."

Kristoph babbled sadly as he brought his arms around Klavier, partly just to confirm he was there.

"I'm so sorry I left you...."

(( Flashback Scene...GO! ))

_________________________________

Five-year-old Klavier Gavin sat in front of the mirror, his elder brother, Kristoph, behind him, tugging at a knot in Klavier's hair.

"Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwww," Klavier whined, but, like always, his brother paid him no attention.

"You know," the twelve-year-old Kristoph was saying, his eyes misting over, as if daydreaming, "one day, I'm going to get out of here."

"What?" Klavier asked, not paying attention. "OWW! THAT'S MY HAIR, KRISSI!"

"...To America, of course, Bruderlien. If I'm going to be a lawyer, that's where I need to be."

Klavier stared at his brother's reflection. "A lawyer? In America?" He pouted. "Nein. You're going to stay right here, with me."

Kristoph gave an impatient sigh. "Look, Klavier," he said. "You're still five; a child. I'm going to America to study. It's only a matter of time."

"No," Klavier pouted. "You're never going to leave me, Bruder. You promised."

Kristoph was tired of his brother's whining. "Oh, grow up, Klavier!"

Klavier stood up, hands on his five-year-old hips. "Well, FINE!" He said, yanking the brush out of Kristoph's hands. "If you're going to be so mean, JUST LEAVE FOR AMERICA, THEN!"

His brother said nothing; Klavier continued. "I DON'T WANT YOU HERE ANYMORE!"

Kristoph had said nothing then, reaching down to kiss his brother's cheek, but Klavier turned his face away, angry, and slightly bitter. The two had gone to sleep that night, both burying their tear-stainted faces in their respective pillows.

It was their first fight. It was the first time Kristoph had mentioned leaving Klavier, and the first time Klavier had yelled like that to his brother.

The next morning, Klavier bounded awake. He felt ready, ready to face the day, to apologize for yelling to his brother. He wandered downstairs, but saw only their father at the table.

"Vater?" He asked, watching his father sip a cup of coffee. "Where's...Kristoph?"

His father looked up from his newspaper. "Kristoph left," he said simply. "To America. Said he wanted to leave for boarding school this year rather than wait another year." Mr. Gavin took a sip of coffee. "Rather persistant, too. His mother is driving him to the airport, where your aunt will meet him."

Five-year-old Klavier stopped, his breath catching in his throat. He looked out the large window, noting the empty driveway.

"He...left me...?"

Klavier wrapped his arms tightly around Kristoph's chest, another small tear escaping him. "Shhhhhhhhh," he soothed again, trying helplessly to calm down Kristoph. "It's all right, Bruder, it's okay..."

He left a small, sad kiss on Kristoph's forehead. "We're here, now, Kristoph..."

((Very nice.))

Shaking, Kristoph collapsed to his knees. He looked up as tears streamed down his face. His voice was quiet and almost childish.

"K...Klavi.... I'm sorry."

(( Heh. Thanks. I've had that saved since the "couch scene," actually, because I'm cool like that. :butzthumbs: ))

Klavier let his legs sink down to the floor, back sliding against the back of the dresser. Taking the broken Kristoph in his arms, he wrapped his older brother protectively in his arms, running his hands through Kristoph's hair and back, making incoherent "shushing" noises.

"Kristoph...it's okay...You didn't know...We didn't know..."

((Impressive.))

Several whimpers escaped Kristoph. Nothing resembling spoken language. He clung fiercely to Klavier, clearly afraid.

"I'm a bad brother." He sobbed into Klavier's shoulder.

Klavier held Kristoph ever-tighter in his arms, unsure of what to say or do.

"Kristoph...I forgive you..."

Is that really what he wants to hear?

He raised Kristoph's chin with a single finger, locking eyes with his crying brother, abandoning the "logic" and searching for the "truth."

"Kristoph, I love you. No matter what. No matter what you do, or what you say...I will always care for you. Nothing you do--past, present, or future--will ever change that."

Kristoph looked up, and, because there was a God, he saw Klavier.

He nodded, a bit dumbly.

Smiling slightly, he stretched his legs, causing the closet door to open. Kristoph forgot about the mirror inside the door. In a flash the two Gavins were staring at themselves.

Klavier, the immature party boy was literally craddling his older brother. Kristoph paused, catching his breath.

"Looks like someone has done a lot of growing up." Kristoph said slowly, a smile forming.

Klavier's shoulders sagged in visible relief. He let out a long stream of air, glad to see his brother's smile again.

"You scared me, you know," he whispered, still hugging Kristoph to his chest.

He took a moment to admire their snot-filled shirts in the mirror. "Kristoph," he said midly, "we're very good at 'extremes.' Not so much at finding 'the middle ground,' though."

The older blonda nodded dumbly, still snug in his brother's arms.

"Um... I....I.... Um.... T..Thank you." He said, looking up. "It's just... I felt really bad about leaving you." Kristoph said, gently holding one of Klavier's hands.

Klavier smiled, running his thumb over Kristoph's palm. "Hey," he said softly. "No complaints here, Kristoph."

He rested his cheek on Kristoph's head. "It feels nice, taking care of you like this."

Kristoph smiled. "Sometimes... everyone needs to be taken care of, Ja?" The blonde said, wiping the few remaining tears from his eyes.

"Ja," Klavier whispered, pulling a strand of hair off of Kristoph's face, pushing it gently behind his brother's ear.

"And I'll always be here to take care of you, Bruder."

Kristoph nodded. He knew that Klavier meant it. And that really meant something.

"So, um... I didn't see this happening." Kristoph joked, still in his brother's protecting arms.

"Yeah," Klavier said truthfully. "Neither did I."

He looked down at Kristoph, still a bit worried. "...You all right, Kristoph? Really?"

Using one of his sleeves, which was just a bit too long, Kristoph wiped his face clean.

"Yeah, I'm fine." He reassured. "Hey... think you can carry me?" The older blonde asked.

((Warm and Fuzzy to the rescue.))

(( Hooray! ))

Klavier grinned, his smile lighting up the hotel room. "...Glad to finally return the favor, Bruder," he said, scooping up Kristoph, making sure not to drop his brother.

Klavier, overwhelmed with some...something, spun around in a circle softly, still holding Kristoph.

"Where are we going, anyway?"

((Now we must have Yami draw Klavi holding Krissi.))

Kristoph almost giggled. "A place called Diner 24. Best French toast and pancakes in Manhattan."

((That's also true. The food there is FABULOUS!!))

(( Aww. We should ask if she could draw the two of them looking at themselves in the mirror, or Klavi brushing Krissi's hair. ))

Klavier's stomach rumbled, confirming his, "Mmm, sounds delicious."

"You know," he said, looking down at Kristoph and smiling. "...How are we going to get there? I don't want to let you go!"

Klavier gasped in fake shock, astounded his brother would say something so heretical. "Of course we're still holding hands, Kristoph!"

He laughed, still not dropping his brother. "How could I keep my hands away?"

"It really is a perfect fit." He complimented.

"Of course it is," Klavier teased, his voice ringing with laughter. He finally started walking towards the door, though he looked back at the bedroom again, grinning.

"You're stuck with me, Kristoph."

Stuck with him......Thank God.

Kristoph nodded, gesturing for Klavier to put him down.

"Stuck... and aren't I glad?" He asked, still not letting go of Klavier's left hand.

Klavier frowned, and put his brother down. "I didn't want to put you down," he complained, though his smile betrayed him.

Still not letting go of Kristoph's hand--Klavier laced his fingers around his brother, preventing him from breaking contact--Klavier half-ran towards the elevator, his stomach growling incessantly.

"Look, Kristoph," he said, pointing. "It's our elevator."

"And it's here waiting for us!" He chirped as he ran along side his boyfriend.

"Haven't you had enough over the past day?" He asked, smiling.

He turned, slightly, showing Kristoph their interlocking fingers. "This, however, they would have a field day over!"

He trailed off. "Damn, Kristoph."

He was still laughing at the elevator's doors opened. "Whatever are we going to do to top that?"

Klavier laughed, his lazily-cocky grin present. "Mmmmmmmmmmmm," he purred, teasing-but-not-really. "That was fun, Kristoph."

He raised his voice slightly, noting an old woman entering the elevator with them. "Yeah, Brother, that sex got kind of kinky, don't you think?"

Again, it took nearly all of his self-control to stop himself from bursting out laughing.

(( Well, I'd love to stay and chat, but you're a total bitch... ))

Klavier watched softly, eyeing the woman. Right now, she looked pissed off enough to go and whack a Bible at the two...

...Or at least throw a bag in their general direction.

It was great.

"I know!" Klavier agreed, sides nearly splitting with the effort to keep from laughing. "...And the way I had you nearly tied up like that? Mmmmmmmmmm!"

Klavier grinned, knowing that neither one of them could keep this act up for much longer.

Instead, he turned so he was facing Kristoph, giving the old woman one more look.

She was furious.

"Well, Kristoph," he said, his eyes teasing, but his voice silky-smooth. "At least you're my bitch."

Then, watching the woman's livid face, Klavier leaned up and pressed his lips against Kristoph's, his eyes still sparkling with un-shed peals of laughter.
