This is my sprite page, I use MSPaint to make some sprites, using Windows 7 Paint is kinda harder, but it has auto-shading, very useful!
Spoiler: Non-Request
Eh, lazy editing. Updated Hatless HoboHodo
Image
Apollo got a bad hair cut, nuf' said.
Image
A older Phoenix I made, I'll update him soon.
Image
A shorter hair Phoenix, he was a pain to make, I erased some of his back head and had to re-add it my self.
Image
Some sprite I made, no name.
Image

Spoiler: Requests
I did this for dullahan1, I couldn't tell if he was joking or not, I did it anyway for lolz
Image

I'm looking for some request to get work done.
I only take 3 request at a time.
1.
2.
3.
I've quit, I don't care if you use them or edit them, but you probaly don't want to. Later.

um, Phoenix is missing a third of his head.
Good effort though. Maybe if move up that section of hair on his face and give him some forehead.

Hey! I made some new sprites!
I made a Older Phoenix, he doesn't have any wrinkles but you'll notice that he has a beard his suit looks a bit more shaded to attempt and show wear and his hair is a little more gray.
Image
I'll do something more complex next, but here is a shorter hair Phoenix, he was a bitch to make.

...
You. Have. Got. To. Be. KIDDING Me!!! The Short hair Phoenix was a bitch to make!? Are you serious!? Because All I would have to do to make something so SIMPLE is take the Eraser tool, Hold Shift, click the left mouse button and go up from the back of his neck!! Rinse and repeat with the front!! I mean my god! I don't even know how you can show something off like that and expect a serious compliment!

I'll keep it short and simple for the other sprites!

Hobo Phoenix needs a forehead!

I don't know how you screwed up Apollo's color scheme. Clap clap you erased his antenna.

And wow, you smeared black paint on Phoenix's chin and cheek, and spilled some on his suit.

I need an aspirin...

You need a freaking chill pill, that's what you need, did you ever think that some people may be freaking new at spriting and some may not be a total ultra pro after only doing sprites for like 2 days? Did you? I guess I will just all the sudden become a ultra pro just like you from outta no where you freaking jerk.
For 1, I accidently freaking erased his neck, so I had to redraw it.
For 2, that old Phoenix is not even freaking done and I plan on probaly updating it tomaro.
Oh, and another update, I managed to update the HoboHodo sprite with a bit of a forehead, I can't go onto Imageshack cause Anti-Virus says it has adware, so, it will be some time.

Ah. aspirin kicked in.
You don't need to be an ultra pro in order to have common sense. Did you REALLY look at what you did before you decided to show these off? Take your Phoenix with the... uh... facial hair... I could have made a couple of guesses as to what you did to him if you didn't say it was a beard. Here's what I would have thought that smear was if it wasn't a beard:
1. A Chin Strap.
2. A whacked out head set.
3. Black paint.
See, I would have been totally confused. It's laughable to think that you could call it a beard.
I don't care what kind of excuse you have for your snip and clip Phoenix. In my point of view, it's lazy editing. And if i see something lazy, I'm gonna tell you it's lazy. I mean c'mon! You even erased part of his ear. Did you even notice? There are some people on this board that I've had a few quips with, but even they put in effort in their work. This work, I can't even say one good thing. It has nothing to do with being good. I'm not even an... guh... an Ultra Pro. I still have a ways to go myself before I can even claim to be in the league of some of the best sprite artists. You need to really hunker down, download all the sprites you can, and study them. I mean it. LOOK at them! Examine every corner, zoom in on every color, Study them until you see dots. Hell, Look through out the entire board and see what they're doing! Even some of the beginners first sprites that were shown off were 10 times better then these... and I didn't care for them that much.
Oh and use Spell-check. I don't know my accidently from my tomaro. Were you trying to say tomato?

Sorry, but I can't help but agree with SilentBobX. I might not be the greatest sprite artist, but that is definitely not a beard and did you cut the Phoenix hair points off just to have a new sprite? And don't use auto-shading on MSPaint windows 7 version as it looks like puke.

Have you ever thought of taking up a career in comedy Silent? I cracked up laughing at that. Sorry Kitisuimo but use spell check next time.

I understand you not being good but I also silent wasn't really wrong with what he said...your sprites are pretty bad and I wouldn't expect to be praised for erasing the back part of phoenix's head destroying both the outline and proportions in the process...you should have at least tried to round the back of his head ._.

now then all of what I can suggest for you is take your time and start looking through sprites (whether it be official sprites or creations of others...just don't go editing other peoples stuff) and studying how there shaded and sized, play around with your tools until you understand what there capable of, experiment, maybe look at a bit of anatomy if your having trouble correctly making the body properly proportioned, ask for help if troubled (remember don't expect praise...if anything criticism is far better for you actually learn), finally keep working at it.

I hope this helps :godot:
and please...no more lazy edits :grey:

Hmmm..... you sorta cut off part of Phoenixes head in the short hair one..... I don't think that was what you were aiming for.
and in the hatless hobo one you sorta killed most of his head.
I'm really sorry for commenting this way :sadshoe: but I am just trying to help you. Spriting isnt that easy...

I agree with all the others. Even if you are a beginner, it's pointless if you're only going to do lazy edits. I'll comment on these edits one by one:

1. He needs to get more of "Apollo's" forehead. Either that or resize Phoenix's hair from the old sprite.
2. This is simple, but fine, except for the fact that you cut out his right elbow.
3. The "beard" looks more like a piece of duct tape. You could have done better by just giving him stubble.
4. This looks like you just cut it straight off. You could try making the cut rounder.
I've been away for far too long.
So long, in fact, that all of my signatures now exist behind a paywall.
Bummer.

-For the Hobo Phoenix, I think the hair looks too low for him, other than that it looks good.
-You did a great job with Apollo!
-For older Phoenix, you could try making the beard look more real? You could also add wrinkles.
-For shorter hair Phoenix, put the back of the head back together, and try to make the back of the hair more realistic.

These sprites may need some work, but like they say: "Practice Makes Perfect!"

With practice, I definitely will see much improvement in these sprites! Keep up the good work! :godot:

I think your hobo head is off center the neck. There's a bit too much neck under Nick's last hair spike.

This took two minutes to and half of it was just getting the Hobo Phoenix and Normal ones from CR.

Spoiler: Incomplete though
ImageSee how I did mine? You should aim for something like that and do not use W7 MS Paint's auto-shading tool. It does bad stuff to sprites.

Yeah, like Ptapcc said, if I could only give one suggestion to help you learn spriting it'd be five simple words: STOP. USING. MS. PAINT. 7.

Personally, I use Paint.NET (a free alternative to Photoshop) with the anti-alias tools off for spriting, that way I can also do sprites without the white backgrounds, but I don't know how well that would work out for you, to be honest.

Your actual spriting, though... that's another story. Jaron, I want to believe you're trying, man, but seriously... the way you're pulling it off could fool anyone. You show promise, that's for sure, but rushing through stuff to get faint praise is usually a recipe for creating complaints, and nobody wants that... you oughta look your work over a bit before you post it for quality control. That way you can check for things like Nick's neck being the same width as the spikes in his hair in your last post, or just ask someone else, a chat buddy, family member, or IRL friend who's over to visit, for a second opinion on what you can improve before calling it "done".

Your Bearded Nick, antennaeless Apollo and Hobo sans-hat have potential with a little bit of work; Apollo, even if it is a weak edit, would be a perfect job if it weren't for your discoloration, but I'd call for a "try again" on that fourth one. It's like everyone said, it looks like you just used the square-select tool to erase the back of Phoenix's head to get attention... the least you could've done was try to round it out a little for a more convincing effect. But hey, trial and error. We've all gotta learn somehow.

I look forward to seeing how you grow and improve from this, but until then...

You don't have to stop using Paint. After all, I use Paint for a majority of my sprites and only use GIMP or Jasc when I need to use a certain feature.

Just, disable that auto-shading feature. It makes your sprites bad.

@ ptapcc: That's more or less the point I was trying to make, I just haven't personally used Windows 7's edition of MS Paint, so I didn't know about the auto-shade feature to any extent and just figured the discoloration was an end result of saving with a limited pallet by default or something... my bad. That's what I get for talking about stuff I have no clue about. :meekins:

TBH, I actually do a large part of my spriting in MSPaint too, mostly due to the more familiar interface. I just use the classic version that came with pretty much every Windows OS pre-Vista since I haven't had a chance to upgrade from XP yet.

@ Ceres: Thanks. I deserved every bit of that kick in teeth. Sorry about that, I was just kinda surfin' in a bad mood earlier and got set off... mix that with a pic you're itching for an excuse to use and it's a recipe for disaster.

I did mean everything else I said in that post, though. That original Hobohodo pic, in spite of the lack of a forehead and discoloration, still looked pretty well-put-together. When I first saw it, it actually took me a few moments to notice what was wrong. If Jaron keeps at it with some practice and a little more focus on what he's doing, I'm convinced we could see some pretty amazing stuff from him.

EDIT: I'm actually kinda surprised after reading my last post again... it doesn't sound anything like me. Sorry about that, guys. :larry:

I know right? I tried to make this sprite myself, but obviously it was no where near as good as yours. It took me about 2.3 hours to line up the box juuuuuust right to click "cut" and remove not only his hair but also the back of his head and neck. No matter how many times I did it, I just couldn't make it as good as yours. Do you think some time you could take a break from your pro-art tour to teach me how you cut off phoenix's neck so well? It would really be a treat.

I request Edgeworth with the top of his face cut clean off. Perhaps give what's left of his chin a nice beard. Make it happen.

Seconded. Unfortunately, you definitely need to take a look at the How to make sprites guide. We need to see some serious changes around here.

Also as amusing as the edit is, I don't believe red scribble was apart of the aforementioned criteria.

After re-reading my post, I see how you may have mistaken it for sarcasm which I can assure you it is not. I must have an odd ascent because all of my friends mistake my admiration for sarcasm as well; unless I actually intend to be sarcastic in which case, they think I am being sincere. In fact just the other day I was talking to a friend of mine who asked if the dress she was wearing made her look fat, and I sarcastically told her that she was always fat. I said it sarcastically to make her feel better, because she weighs about 350 pounds. I didn't get the reaction I was expecting though, instead of her smiling and thanking me for the sarcasm, she instead punched me in the gut and then proceeded to stomp on me, which no doubt hurt much more then it would if it had been someone of normal weight. No need to worry about me though, because I am fine but she was arrested and had to spend the night in jail.

Anyway, I hope we can put all this behind us, because I really do admire your mastery of the art of spriting and I hope that you will reconsider my offer to meet up for a one on one lesson sometime. As a peace offering I made this short-haired Mia sprite, it took many hours of hard work so I hope you like it.

I shouldn't be laughing but the sprite was hilarious. And please refrain from triple posting and goading Jaron (Kitisuimo).

I don't see what all the hate is about. These sprites would have taken me years to create. In fact, they're so great that they've inspired me to show my own sprite masterpieces.

In fact...

Nice... you guys scared him away. You could've at least softened up the critisism and made it CONSTRUCTIVE critisism. I know, the sprites weren't very good, but no need to be so mean about it.... How would you feel if I came to your topic and was like "THIS SHIT IS CRAP! D=<" Seriously, that's not right.

We told him the truth and gave him advice. It was up to him whether or not to take the constructive criticism and apply it to his work. Bottom line: His sprites sucked. There's no need to defend someone who can't listen to others when they are trying to give help.

And shit IS crap... Duh!

The point is, I've tried, but failed. I've tried to follow the tips, but just keep on failing. I'd like it if a moderator can lock this thread and let it sink. There won't be any new sprites coming up, at all. I've already cleared out my folder.
