Thanks you for the Mia sprite suggestion I might do the whole thing over but for now I decided to go on a long hiatus for a while to clear my mind so I decided im making my own fan character sprites for a future project im not saying what the project is but the sprites I upload will give you a clear idea for you to figure out sorry.

Here's the first of many my first fan character Rola Skats.

Image
Name: Rola Skats
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Description:She is a female skater. Her skater group is called the Soul Skaters. Seems like she has a hard time grasping a bad situation.

I think in her pose on the right, the blinking sprites look uneven (One looks more open than the other in mid-blink)

Update I fixed her hands in her worried pose

And with that im done with Rola Skats's sprite sheets with a new angry pose and a courtroom sprite for her on the stand.I'll probably might do more updates for her whether it be concerns like her hands when she's crying or she got caught or whatver.

I know the problem is with the neck but it helps to tell me so I can fix it and if you're asking about the hair his hair is supposed to be longer cause this is a young version of him.

The longer hair highlights look a lot better in the front pose, but when he turns his head, they're gone. Also, his hair when facing left seems to shift up, maybe flatten it out, and cover his forehead a little more. Other than that, It's a good start, so keep on editing until you perfect it!

Ok I tryed to fix up the hair highlights and the second set of poses which I didn't expect to be so difficult to do the highlights that is. But with that done hopeful I can get to the courtroom sprites.

That one looks really good so far! Just flatten his stomach, otherwise, it's a great defense bench sprite!

Took a break from Robert Hammond and made a new female lawyer who's shading seems inconsistent I know I was just messing around with shading to make it seem like it's less bland but it'll be fixed in due time.

It's not your spriting which has "gotten worse" between the two pictures (though it is hard to tell as it is still unfinished) but your anatomy. I find that a good sketch helps the spriting process immensely, so I've tried to help yours.

Spoiler: Critique
Image
Her neck is too thick and her eyes are plastered on her face instead of being in her skull. Notice how the skull is constructed, because it's not perfectly round. If her far hand is in her pocket it should still be visible. The shoulders-to-hips ratio is a bit off.

The main problem is that you're symbol drawing, so you aren't constructing the form underneath. Might I recommend Loomis's Fun With A Pencil?

Good to see you've made more work! You haven't gotten worse at all! More practice and more spriting only brings improvements.
I have noticed that your characters are a little elongated sideways, but I have trouble with anatomy also.

SK's critique sounds really helpful! (I'm gonna read that link he put up also hehe.)

Thanks for sketch reference and the link as well my trouble has been with anatomy a lot and yeah the thing is unfinished cause the head was bugging me so much it's msotly why I prefer front sprites I seem to get that thing down more prefereable

You're welcome. If either of you find it helpful, there are other Loomis books freely available on the web as well. Loomis's exercises are how I got introduced to construction.

Part of the method is thinking about things in terms of three-dimensional shapes instead of outlines. Mostly it's about practice.

Hey it's been a very long time since I've been back to this site my busy schedule has been well less busy and I've gotten into the sprite of doing sprites again but I won't going in random spurts like I used to do im just gonna do one character and stick with it. And that character above is Calisto Yew with handdrawn poses by me a few of time look a bit wonky but when I sprite them hopefully they'll look a bit better. I've also improved on my drawing a bit with a before and after pics of Calisto Yew what I originally wanted to do but scrapped but revamping now. Also I plan to redo some of my older sprites but right now my main focus is on Calisto Yew who I first did before. Originally someday I did wanna make a game based off Calisto Yew well sorta a trilogy starting with Byrne Faraday then Calisto Yew and lastly to end the trilogy with Calisto Yew's assistant as a lawyer himself. But that'll be a long time before I do that. But yeah to wrap this up im back and gonna work on Calisto Yew starting with the Normal sprite of course then upload.

Hey, good to see you again XD

To be honest, I think the sprites in the 2014 drawings were generally better in just body construction and the poses (but that's probably because you referenced off the official sprites?)... the main thing is mostly that the coat doesn't make sense in the new ones. For example this jacket when it's open the flaps are long and overlap since that's how double-breasted buttons work, there's extra fabric, compared to the way the coat is drawn closed in the sketches you did.
I do see there's an improvement in the way you draw faces now which is nice. I really like the concept for the damage animation, it looks good.

Ok the sprite is here I know im missing the badge on her coat I'll fix but this is sorta a quick preview im not sure I really nailed the perspective shot from when Calisto Yew is at the bench cause she does seem a bit short I was sorta going from the perspective shot from Dual Destinies and maybe I nailed or not or im just being too picky or perfect on this sprite but feel free to let me know what you think.

Well I was trying to do a bit odd perspective and the reason I drew them from the right was because I draw better on my right and thank you.

Thanks well I was trying to make the coat match the way it was made in AAI and also thanks I wanted to make the damage one a bit different with her closing her mini mirror.

I like the Calisto sprite so far! Nice shading and colouring! One thing is her head and neck are a bit too big. Measure the sprite up with Mia's DA pose as a reference to fix up the proportions.

:

Hello! Welcome back! This is what I think...
Her head is a little too big, the lower part of her face should be less round. It seems like it's too far from her ear, and I think her ear is a little too small. Her left arm looks weird, the elbow is too low I'm guessing :ron:

The rest of the sprite looks fine to me! Keep it up. :gant:

Ok I've redid the ones from the suggestions Superaj3 and Shiroforever gave me with the head being too big and it did help to compare it to Mia sprite man perspective is always my biggest enemy but with the adjustments hopefully I think I got it. Also I made her a bit taller so it matches better with the defense bench in say a image.

That's made it look so much better! I really like it! Perspective it tough, I always need some similar-shaped character to reference to make sure mine is all in proportion.

Thanks and Yeah it does help to always have official sprite on standby to help.

Also a small update here are some Juniper Woods sprites as a judge on the judge bench and outside sprites I created a few months back. If you require mouth or blinking for them I can create them for you if you like. And with that the next post will have another Calisto Yew bench sprite.
