Decided i'd try getting back into spriting again. I finally got a new monitor, and now i can see just how bad the coloring on my sprites is. So i'll be going back and redoing them.

A "typical" villan like you'd see in a silent movie or novel.

Bio for Johnny (moved it from the other forum)
Spoiler:
The Bio for Johnny (as if the're isn't enough tragedies in the game :sadshoe: )

Yes some of it actually matches me (not much though other than the obvious)

Age: 29 Height: 5’10”
Occupation: Defense lawyer, and often an investigator (mostly for Railroads). Also drives trucks occasionally as a side job.

Personality: Johnny is a easy going but active guy, who doesn’t hesitate to help someone if they ask for it. However he can get fired up about stuff, especially if someone pisses him off. His (usually) all black outfit makes him look a little intimidating looking but he really isn’t. Even though his primary interest is trains he frequently has the answer to someone’s question.

Misc. facts:

Johnny is a major rail buff.. Shown by his large collection of railroad items including a real caboose. Even though he has a cowboy look to him country isn’t his only favorite type of music. He listens to rock and metal also.

Friends and family:

He has a (younger) brother and sister. One of his friends is a past client of Phoenix.

Name / origin:

No particular reason I picked Johnny as the 1st name (it might have a little connection to the song “I’m afraid of Americans” by David Bowie and Trent Reznor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slKNd22GGaQ ). The last name is to make it sound like “Johnny Rotten” (I’m not a Sex Pistols fan though) in keeping with Capcom’s Pun tradition. However in my early double digits I did meet a guy (who worked for a railroad) who’s last name was Rotan.

Background:

Johnny grew up in a medium sized Nebraska town in a mosly “Railroad” family. After graduating High School he went to the Academy of Railroad Sciences in Kansas City to become an Engineer. He started work as a Brakeman (when you hire out for train service employee you start as a Brakeman and work up through Conductor before you can become an Engineer) and by 22 was an Engineer.
Then when he was 26 an incident occurred.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KKiitd1bBw (watch this video)

His train hit a family of 4 in a minivan after the Dad drove arround the lowered crossing gates to try and beat the train, and succeeded in getting all of them killed. This devastated Johnny (and the other 2 crewmembers in the train). And afterwards the relatives of the family tried to sue both Johnny and the railroad saying it was their fault. The video from the camera onboard the Locomotive (which looks out the front window and records the sound outside of the Loco) proved otherwise and the lawsuit was dropped.
After that Johnny couldn’t muster going back to work so he quit. He went back to school, this time to become a defense lawyer so he could defend railroads against lawsuits resulting from accidents where it clearly wasn’t the railroads fault (he has handled other cases though). Because of his knowledge of railroading, sometimes the railroads hire him as an investigator also.

Can you deal with it? :karma:

Gonna do some based on cartoon characters also.
Starting with:

Regina Brite
:beef:
I think it's a perfect match for her character :nick:

When i was done with these 2. I was shocked at how much they look like the actual characters:

Jayce Edgeworth

Jem Mia and the Hollograms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNqrWm1M3Sc
Image
Kimber Fey, Jem Fey, Aja May, and Shana Hart

And of course their rivals the Misfits:

Image
Stormer Hawthorne, Pizzazz Von Karma, and Roxy Miney
(I love how these 3 turned out)

Well.. I'm never looking in this topic again.
No offense but some of these edits are rather poor. Not meaning to be horrible but they could do with better placement, better palettes, the Max Manson looks -okay-...
And the Von Karma wasn't that bad.
I assume you're relatively new to spritework? If so not bad as a start..

Yes i am new to sprite work. Like as in less than a month (i'm not trying to live up to or beat other people's standards).
I've seen worse here. And the palettes i use are no diffrent than how the're actually done to most of the characters.

New OC

Image
Edit: name change:
Dede Miney

Bio
Age: 26
Height: 5' 7"
Occupation: Receptionist at the Hotti clinic

Personallity:
Even more ditzy than Ini. Perhaps a little short on IQ.
Family:
Dede has (or had) 2 younger sisters, Ini and Mimi

Image

Name orgin:
Just keeping the Capcom tradition :meekins:
Background:
Dede is like her younger sister Ini, except instead of just being Ditzy she's a full blown valley girl who's pretty much left present day behind for the 80's, wearing appropiate clothes, moon rings, and of course her big hair. Date her and expect to be bombarded by 80's music, movies, and culture. Among the 80's thing she collects are her 2 favorites: anything Jem and My Little Pony related (commenting about her acting her age may get you a "Pearl style" slap :pealshock: ).
Despite being a Val she does have some smarts. She's the only one Hotti (Mr. Boofoo to her) doesn't mess with at the clinic (not suprising since she's pepper sprayed him a couple times :edgy: ).
She was closer to Ini than Mimi. Like everyone else she thought it was Mimi who died in the wreck. When she found out what really happened at the trial she was devastated. As Mimi was being led out of the courtroom guards had to hold her back. Her last words to her were : "burn in hell Mimi!". Afterwards she was very withdrawn which worried friends and family, but she came out of it and is back to her old self.

The colors all kind of blend haphazardly, they're saved as JPEGs, the freedrawing has no real detail or shading, frankly they seem like they were rushed. Try to make them as smooth as possible, compare them against the in-game sprites and other's sprites. If they seem worse, try to find what does so and fix it.

I'm not trying to be a flaming jerk, but these are rather... erm... bad. The only ones I can say that looks fairly good are the Max Manson and von Karma.

As for the main OC, do some work on it, the colors on it make it look very inexperienced... again, no JPEGs, PNGs only.

I hope I can help at least some, again, not trying to flame.

I do save in png. Also this monitor is bad with dark colors (not getting a new one), and my photo program has the colors on the pallet scattered instead of in color groups like it should which makes it hard to pick appropiate shading colors (not paying big bucks for, or illegal D/L photoshop or similar). I use most of the same shaded areas found on the characters i modify. And some of the stuff i want is impossible to do correctly with sprites this small (making them larger and then resizing doesn't work).

This is what my pallet looks like in my photo program:
Image
On my monitor, where the yellow arrow is on the white to black spectrum, all of the shades past that look black. I can't tell the diffrence. The only time i can is when i first turn the monitor on. Then it's fine but as soon as it warms up it's the same. And it's hard to tell what group most of the colors belong to also.

EDIT:
One last time with some:

Again i DO save them as PNG. But Flickr seems to like converting them to JPG for some reason. The comic pages i uploaded are still PNG but all of the others become JPG's somehow :eh?:

nvm. :nick:

EDIT: Figured out what was wrong. I was copying the wrong URL for the pic's. Flickr's "preview" image is a JPG. You have to click "all sizes" to get the actual URL.
