I'm opening a sprite thread, too. I hope you don't mind.
Before I start with the sprites, here's an explanation for this thread's title (spoiler tags for tl;dr).
Spoiler: Why "Tomcat Games"? You're s9^!
I'm making an Ace Attorney fangame with some friends of mine, and Tomcat Games is the name we chose for the team. This means that only some of the sprites I'll post in this thread are actually mine. By the way, although they agreed with my posting their works here, for some obscure reason none of the other team members are willing to join CR (I hope to persuade them soon, though.) So... well, for the time being I'm the only link between the team and CR, and that's why this thread covers the whole team's spritework instead of mine and only mine.
</tedious explanation>
OK, less talk, more sprites. As usual, constructive criticism and tips are welcome. We're all beginners, so please bear that in mind, too
As a beginner I thought I could start with something simple like a recoloring with an "added twist". It turned out being way harder than I thought. I struggled a lot with the shading and had to draw the tie from scratch (which took me a week to get right), but I'm quite satisfied with the result so far. This is a work in progress. Godot's head is still the same, save for the earrings - they're gone. I have yet to remake the visor and tweak the hair, and then I need to fix some details I'm not happy with. You know, I strive for perfection For those who care, I made this edit with the GIMP.
Now meet my friends - I mean, look at their work
Ryuu's sprites
Spoiler: Feenworth!
Here's what some C&P and some recoloring can do to Phoenix. Edgey's cravat fits him well Once my friend got the hang of some of Photoshop CS4's features, he went on and replaced the cravat with a classic necktie, then changed the suit's color to a darker shade of blue. He had to draw some details from scratch, too. Here's the result.
IMO not bad for someone who used Photoshop for his first time ever. By the way, Ryuu's planning on remaking the head almost completely from scratch, so "Feenworth" (as we've called this edit) will become a fully fledged OC.
Again, feel free to give us advice! Thanks
Re: Tomcat Games' Newbie Sprites from the Depths of Hell!
I like the godot one, but personally I would change something on his head.
Something will change. I will remake the visor and recolor the hair for sure, but I'm not confident enough about making radical changes to the shape of the hair. By the way, expect an update sometime soon.
Re: Tomcat Games' Newbie Sprites from the Depths of Hell!
These are some good recolours. Although... something doesn't seem right about Godot's head, can't quite place my finger on it...
its not the head its how the body been redone...because of that it makes the head seem off...for one the other side of his collar is missing and the shades (im refering how they are placed) are off...both of these factors makes the sprite look off...but as you said its a W.I.P...so good luck on its completion :D note: the areas where the earings used to be i can still see them...there the areas with a tad lighter shade >.>;;;
but anyways (to ryuu) nice recolors and (to you) keep working at it

Thanks a lot for pointing those problems. I'll try and fix them as soon as I can.
