1. First go to Layers and click Alpha Layer or what ever it is called.
2. Click the Fuzzy wand tool and click on any white area
3. Press Ctrl+x
4. Repeat for all non-transparent areas.

The face sucks...Sorry but that's at least my opinnion.
This is what you could try:
Don't try to scratch his nose and add him two eyes.
Instead, try using Phoenix's eye(s) and his nose on that face.
That SHOULD do it.

The big one, though, is the lighting. Looking at her clothes, the light source is directly to the left. Looking at her face, the light source is directly to the right. Looking at her arms, the light source is directly above. You should make sure that the shading on entire body is consistent with its perceived light source. I hope that helps you!

Sure, I can do it. Anyways, for the beard, it'll be easier if we keep it at a goatee size so it doesn't really clutter the face. I'll get working on it over spring break. (which is a couple days away, so don't worry!)

Oh, and I edited my post before I saw yours, but if you could do a matching Profile Icon as well, that'd be great. But it's not required since Profile Icons are easier to do. (Yeah, Phoenix's Profile Icon would be best for that I think). Whether you animate his pose to talk as well is up to you, but as long as I have the sprites I can animate it myself, so don't worry about that too much.
Oh yeah, and the beard is supposed to be the chin part of the goatee, but you can make it as short as you want.

That actually looks pretty good. For his hair, it would be cool if you could add a slight sideburn that stops about the level of the bottom of his ear. But that's the only addition to his hair I'd like. As far as his hairline goes, less of those triangles would be better. I'd like a smoother hairline. The rest looks good to me, for a first try sprite.
His face needs to be a bit sharper I think. Like his nose. I want him to stand out from Phoenix in the end. Other than that, everything else seems to be fine. (yeah, I know, it's a first try sprite, so of course it'll bear resemblances to the base sprite, haha.)
Now that I see what kind of undershirt you're using, I think maybe something should be there. A loose, red tie might work. Loose, like in the style of Gumshoe and Spark Brushell. The color red could be the same red as Diego's shirt. However, that's not required and I could always add it myself later. This is just me voicing my thoughts.
Thanks in advance, the work you've done so far is awesome and I appreciate it all. Can't wait to see the updated sprite.
By the way, Ceres has a few Diego Bench sprites you could take a look at, for a reference as far as the forehead and face fits on Diego. Of course I'm not encouraging theivery, naturally. But personally, I think he has the proportions down. I think I put a link in the DA: AA game thread, if you want to take a peek.
