Okay, so I've seen so many people having fun editing and recoloring sprites that I had to go try too. I'm really starting to get into this now, so I think I'm doing pretty well. Thank you all for you kind words and advice. ^_^

I'm deeming all of my sprites as free use, so go ahead and do what you want with them, no credit or permission necessary.

ON HIATUS

My enthusium for spriting has faded somewhat, so requests will be off until I regain enough momentum that making sprites doesn't feel like a chore anymore. Thanks for your understanding.

Spoiler: animation problem (SOLVED! Thanks Tap!)
*Edit* Hrm. I seem to have a problem. This image that I have should sum it up pretty well

Image

As you can see, frames are remaining in the animation when they shouldn't be. I think the problem may be involved with the fact that the image's background is "alpha channel", or transparent.

*solved* This problem was caused because I was using layers as the frames, and for animation, the new layer was stuck on top of the old one, leaving it still visible. The way to solve this is to have "(replace)" in each layer's name, so that each new layer will replace the previous one in the animation, instead of layering over it.

Ok nice start.
Never use black, because it's evil.
Also, remember to save as PNG

I tried red, but it kept coming out as a weird pink, and the luminosity went a little crazy, so I went with black. >__<

And trust me, I quickly found out that saving as .png was the way to go. Lost half an hour's work on the first one when I saved it as a .gif, and the colors went wild. :sadshoe:

Ohh I hate when that happens. Oh the memories with Paint....

Anyways, your recolors are very nice and don't worry about GIMP being a possible virus, it isn't. :3

Yep, some good recolors there. And GIMP works just fine, unless you have vista, then it randomly crashes. (It happened to me before... :panye:) Keep working at it!

This computer of mine is a seven-year old cheap Dell, so this thing probably couldn't even handle vista. XD

Thanks for the tips everyone! ^_^

I've managed to get GIMP set up, and I haven't killed the computer, so my paranoia has been safely put to rest. my next project will be to see if I can get my Ichiru recolor to have a blinking animation. We'll see how that goes. :phoenix:

Nothing to do about that.
The reason is that you just saved it wroong way.
I could try to explain bit better, but I guess someone who knows english more than me can do it lot better.

Tap is here to solve the problem :D

The reason you are getting this is because the sprites in each frame are not correct. I'll show you what I mean with some screenshots of Phoenix's headshakes. The first is a CR Rip. The second is your one.

Spoiler: Good Headshake
Image

Now have a look at yours...

Spoiler:

The problem is that for each slide you've left the previous image. You need to remove it so that only the right frame plays like in the first screenshot. Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the help everyone, especially you Tap. So I think I have a good idea what the problem is now, but solving it is still going to be a challenge.

I think the problem is that I use layers as frames, which is what is directed in the sprite animation tutorial thread. I guess this type of animation works fine for simple eye or mouth animations, where the new frame is just pasted on top, but it doesn't work with broader animations, since previous frames are left behind.

So I think my best option for going forward is to try getting that help file again (I think I must have clicked the wrong link or something before), and seeing if I can find details on another way to make an animated gif file.

Of course, I can also probably fix the problem by adding a background color, but that makes it look sloppy. >.<

*edit* Well, I just found something called GIMP GAP, which is apparently an addon to gimp that allows for animations with single frames, which sounds like what I'm looking for. Now my problem is that I don't know where to stick the thing in order to use it! I have succeeded in getting the help file though, so right now I'm looking through that to see if it has directions for adding new plugins.

It looks like a shiny pokemon :karma: lol just kidding
I recommend that you use phoenix's skin tone, or even godot's to make him look more natural
BTW, are you using the Color replacement tool or something like that?

I use the colorize tool in GIMP. I like it because it lets me change the color of something to almost anything else while still keeping the different shades. I did the Tigre one in less than five minutes total work, so if I had fiddled around with the tones a bit more, I probably would have come up something a little more realistic. It's rather hard for me to to a good skin tone from the full color palette.

My excuse is that Tigre's red dye won't wash out completely anymore. XD

And I've been doing a whole lot of Lisa recolors. I should probably do someone else now. >__<

...Hmmm, have you tried it without using the colorize tool? I don't really use it, rather preferring to pick my own colors and do it with the pencil tool. It does work a bit better.

Those are nice! I like the black flight attendant uniform. I would say Tigre's complexion should be a little more brown/olive, but he fits in with the rest of the PW cast.

If you're looking for recolor ideas, I've been kicking around Phoenix Wright Clue for a while. I wrote a little demo script to help me learn casemakers with the characters as follows:

Edgeworth - Prof. Plum
Maya (waitress outfit) - Ms. White
Gumshoe - Col. Mustard
Oldbag (security uniform) - Mrs. Peacock
Franziska - Ms. Scarlet
Phoenix - Mr. Green (unseen)
Larry - Mr. Boddy (unseen)

This isn't an official request, but if the idea strikes your fancy then I have a use for them. :garyuu:

I was also thinking it would be fun to do a few more Phoenix Wright Clue cases, using the expanded casts of both. But I don't currently have scripts written using anyone but the main Clue cast.

I haven't taken the time to try doing him by "hand", so I may try that in the next few days. I just prefer the colorize tool because it can give fairly good results quickly, and I can program in color settings for later, which is useful.

So basically, what you're looking for is to have those characters' clothing changed so they'll more or less fit with their name's "color"? That sounds doable. Although Edgy's already purple and Oldbag's already blue, so I don't really think those two will need recoloring...

*edit* Okay, I had time before I go to bed to do something quick so I tried Maya, and got this:

Image

I'm gonna have to go back and redo this one I think, unless you want a "Ms. Offwhite". :gant:

Would you make the Maid, a witness for case 1 of Ryu Kenji: Ace Attorney for me please?
Specifications:
Head: Lisa Basil (no scouter or whatever it's called)
Hair: Black
Eyes: black
Body: Well, since it's a maid, the tres bien suit, but in black, like your Maya recolor
Well, I guess that's all..

I haven't actually done a frankensprite yet, but this one seems simple enough that I can try it. I'm going to be pretty busy today, but I'll probably be able to make a neutral sprite (eyes open, mouth closed) by this evening. Let's see how that goes.

StBacchus: I'll still be working on your idea too, but since Auraion has made an actual request, his takes priority for now.

So, by temporarily skimping out on my schoolwork for today, I was able to get two requested sprites done at the same time.

I got a "Ms. White" Maya done:

And a Lisa in Maya's maid outfit, without her eyepiece.

I'm actually rather proud of it. Especially since I remembered to match the skin tones of the arms to the new face. :keiko:

Onyx, I figured out how to fix your animation problem. I haven't tried it out personally but it should work.

If you have an animation that is different in each frame (like Phoenix's head shake) then all you need to do is put at the end of each frame (replace). This will just make it so that when it gets to the next frame, it replaces what sprite was before with the next. Hopefully that makes sense :tennis:

That makes perfect sense. That sounds like it will solve my problem very nicely. Thank you so much! :acro:

*edit*
In fact, it did solve my problem quite nicely. I threw that phoenix head shake back together, with Tap's new tip, and got this
Image
Don't mind the frame rate, I set it to that. Look at the fact that the previous frames are now missing. Now I can do more complex animations without worry! I owe you one Tap. ^_^

The talking and blinking sheet shouldn't be much of a problem. In fact, I just might be able to whip that up later today. The sweating sheet will take me longer though. I'll have to experiment with ways to change the sweat without having to rebuild the entire face each time. I'll figure something out though.

Got a basic sprite sheet of Maid Lisa done. It has blinking and speaking, and blinking while speaking. I haven't started the sweat sheet yet, but as I said earlier, that will probably take me a while.

Thanks. That'll simplify things somewhat. I'd still have to remove the eyepiece on all of them, but I think that can be accomplished easily if I just mirror the left side of the face on the right. IF don't mind her having symmetrical sweat. XD

It's still two dozen faces I need to make, but I'm fairly certain that I can get the sheet done by the end of Sunday.

*edit*

Also thew this animation together for fun.

Okay, I have a question and a bit of a problem Auraion. The question is that I have two possibilities to use as the body for the "worried" animation. There's the same body as the passive animation, which would look like this:
Image

Or I could use this other body:
Image
I personally like the second better, but the final decision is up to you.

And the problem I ran into is this: The recolored sprite sheet you gave me is about 10-20% smaller than the original. This means that the sprites themselves are resized as well. If I use that sheet, the heads for the "worried" animation will be smaller than for the idle, and be a bit blurry as well. I used headshots from that sheet for the two examples above, so you can see what it looks like. I'm pretty sure you didn't resize it yourself, so my best guess is that the image host site you used shrank the image because it was large or something.

Either way, I don't think I can progress until you give me your thoughts on all of this.

Psssh. Sorry about the tutorial, there's one that I've been meaning to update for things like head-nods, but it's simple, do everything you did in the GIMP like normal, except in stead of Combine use Replace, no need for a cockamamey solution.

Don't worry about it. Luckily for me, Tap was able to point out the "replace" bit a few days ago, so everything's fine. But either way, your tutorial was incredibly useful for learning how to do the editing, so I owe a lot to you right now. :keiko:

No prob - Miss Maya White looks terrific, thank you! I made her into a title graphic for my script. Maya is the perfect mascot for it! :maya:

If I wanted her to be a sprite sheet, what do I have to do? Sorry if that's a stupid question...I've been focusing on learning how to script with PyWright so I know next to nothing about how the art assets work. If it's too much work to do sprite sheets for all of them (except Edgey and Oldbag, like you said), I could still use single frames in a banner or sig, though!

If you look at the bottom of my first post, you can see that I've deemed my work as "free use", so anyone can do anything they want with my stuff without needing permission. ^_^

Important notice: I just got totally screwed over schoolwork-wise, so I will most likely not have any time to work on sprites until Friday. I apologize for the inconvenience, but life does that to people. >__<

Okay, I haven't had a lot of free time the past week, but I was able to do some short projects and animations in my downtime, so I'll add them now. The animations are mostly just loops and combination of different actions, but they're still good. (in my opinion)

Animations:

Spoiler: Klavier

Klavier gets rebutted.

Endless air guitar solo.

Spoiler: Apollo

Polly can't make a point.

Spoiler: Dahlia

A RL friend of mine loved this one.

Turned out meh.

Oh shit Demon!

Spoiler: Godot

Keep 'em comin'!

Spoiler: emotes
Recolored and redid the Lisa emotes to make them my own.

Spoiler: Lisa *Question for Auraion*
Made my maid Lisa blink and talk for fun

Linked because she's BIG.

Question regarding Auraion's request

I asked you this question a week ago, but I haven't heard anything, so I'm going to ask again.

Okay, I have a question and a bit of a problem Auraion. The question is that I have two possibilities to use as the body for the "worried" animation. There's the same body as the passive animation, which would look like this:

Or I could use this other body:

Hi there, Tap recently directed me to you when I asked him to do an animation for me. He said you owe him a favor, so would you mind helping me out?

It depends on what you want. If it isn't too complicated, I should be able to do it without much problem. Plus, I DID tell Tap "I owe you one". Whacha need?Image

Haha...using my favour are we? Actually, I didn't consider helping you and your statement as you owing me anything (as it was only something pretty easy to fix) however Super is desperate.
