Yeah....anyone who's a hardcore fan would recognize that art style

Can we spam him with hatred?

Spamming=really bad idea. Better to report them quietly. I have a dA account if you don't or don't want to report him, I'd just need more details to report the theft (I have no idea who did that originally, plus having a link to the original would be good).

I'm sure it's just a vector or a copy (hell, even the author says she used a reference) of the OA, so I wouldn't report her.

i disagree. if you look at the two pictures, she copied the original artist's style to the exact point, so that it's basically a replication.

According to the FAQs...

"A referenced, copied or inspired work which shows evidence of being directly traced, re-colored, 'painted-over', vector traced or which reproduces the original in exacting detail will be at increased risk of being removed by staff.

If you believe that a deviation or scrapbook addition is an "edit", direct trace over, or is a fairly precise copy of another work then you should report it as a potential violation."

Vectoring or tracing another artist's work is still not right, IMO. Referencing something else is fine, but not when it looks exactly the same as the original.

However, spamming won't do any good. reporting is the proper way to handle such a situation.

Post subject:  Re: Art Thief?

It's not a imitation...she didn't use the original picture as a reference. She just copied them.
Spoiler: save the room
I covered the original picture on her work in 48% Opacity, and you can see they are almost 100% the same. There is no way to imitate a picture so precisely, unless she's some kind of Vera in real life.

The original one has yellow line around the characters.
ImageImage

She didn't do a copy and paste job because the original one has more details, I guess what she did was just create a new layer on the picture and stroke the lines, and copy the other draw styles(distribution of shadow, color using, etc.).

I don't have a DA account though.... :payne:

Terrific. Looks like 3 of us reported this and they said it's still valid

Kasomethingsomething I think we need a more official link to the original

What's this crazed person doing? He's just copying the art.

Wow, I hate art thieves with a passion. 8D It's painfully obvious that she didn't do one bit of that art...the rest of her gallery is not HALF that good. Wow. I think it pisses me off more that she's getting so much praise for something she didn't do.

Either way, I'm messaging her. Reporting her as well, but other people who might think it is TEH AWSUM and that this silly girl actually has talent need to know that the jig is up. :/

Is the official art from Court Records valid enough?

You can clearly see that this was scanned from a book at least.

Post subject:  Re: Art Thief?

It takes dA a few days to respond to art theft reports, so don't lose hope yet. I should know... I've reported my fair share of thieves. :/

ETA: ...Ah. Nevermind. I went to report it myself and this note came up for me. Twice (for two separate entries):

Quote:
First Report: Wed May 21 2008 11:37
Case Closed: Wed May 21 2008 12:16
Status: Invalid
Comment: A member of staff has reviewed this deviation and has determined that it is legitimate fan art. No action is required.

*sigh* They probably won't look at any other theft reports for this particular image since they consider the case "closed," even if a more "official" link is given.

Post subject:  Re: Art Thief?

That came out too when I reported it... let's not get our hopes high. But at least we should try, non?
besides, there are a lot of art thieves, let's hope they forgot they have cleared this one! XD

Post subject:  Re: Art Thief?

that's rather odd, since DA is usually strict about this kind of things..

Post subject:  Re: Art Thief?

maybe the previous reporter didn't post link to the original fanbook art? If the admins compare that drawing with only the official arts it would look like it's drawn by a different person (because it is). Let's hope they'll put it down soon, or at least give the artist a warning.

Post subject:  Re: Art Thief?

This pisses me off a ton. I tried to report her, but it has "two closed cases", which I guess means you can't report anymore. That's such bullshit. She doesn't have this listed as a vector - she's acting as though she ACTUALLY drew it. All that "Thanks!! ^^" in response to people telling her she's great at drawing SERIOUSLY pisses me off. What a bratty little poser.

If dA won't do anything about it, I'm noting her. Chances are she'll ignore it, but commenting on the original deviation won't hurt, guys. I'm there, so is someone asking if it's a vector (which it's not listed as) - if she starts to realize that people will post and no one believes she actually has any skills besides the ability to copy and paste, she'll probably take it down.

/PO'd artist rant

Post subject:  Re: Art Thief?

As things are going, it seems I'm going to change my mind. I asked the author if it was a vector, but she hasn't replied yet... And until I read the comments, I didn't realise she was acting as she drew it >.>.

Yeah, I saw that art on a magazine cover.

Post subject:  Re: Art Thief?

She has answered:
Quote:
I did it in Photoshop. When I think of vector images, I think of stuff I made in Illustrator. Also, they aren't my characters, so I put it under Fanart. But you may have a point and I may need to change the category.

OK, I'm confused :meekins:

Author:  Aevitas [ Sat May 24, 2008 10:57 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Art Thief?

It's not really the category that's the problem, IMO, she just needs to clarify that she didn't do the original pose/style, etc. and that it was a direct copy of something else that already existed (and has been published). That's just my take on it though.

Wow, she's STILL denying that she traced it! -___-;; I hope you don't mind that I link her to the 48% opacity thing, 火曜日. I can't think of a better way to show her that it is, in fact, obvious that it's the same.

hehee when I checked, it's gone already! yay! either the artist put it down themselves or the admins took it down! XD

Post subject:  Re: Art Thief?

Haha, yup! xP It was actually because she was caught in the act.

"Look, I'm not one for major conflict, alright? So I'm deleting it. A simple yes or no to taking it down would have been sufficient."

I love how she gets all OMG OFFENDED JEEZ UR MEAN!!! and denies tracing it right up to the very end. : P Gotta love stubborn little thieves! But whatever, at least it's down. : D

POOF!

The deviation's gone~

Sorry I wasn't around at the moment> <but yay, she deleted it!
Well I just hope she learned a lesson from this. It's good for her to be caught on internet rather than in real life. :shoe:
