OK, i've noticed some shakily put together sprite comics around, and I figured that I should make a rough guide.

To begin, I shall state the obvious:
Every case should have an intro. If it does not, you fail at life.

Moving on!

Now, here are some resources:
A template for the comics.

The text box, sufficiently seethrough.

The front of the detention center.

The AJ desks, in 256 x 192 format, with transparency.

Resources for examining:

Bubbles, non-animated:

Now, I recommend Paint.net to make these. So i've provided the link to download it. It's free, so don't worry.

Yuma has a set of Phoenix Wright fonts.

Ideally, I wouldn't write your text in Paint.net. It goes somewhat too antialiased. I'd recommend making all the templates in Paint.net, filling in the blocks on your comic template with them in paint, and writing all your text in paint.

Which brings me to my next point: make templates. It is a huge timesaver.
If you don't know what I mean, i'll show you.
Spoiler:

See? A bunch of blank templates, with no text. It saves a lot of time to copy and paste these into the template, and write your text later.

I'd recommend using Imagehosting to host your images, but it's up to you. Just don't use Photobucket.

And finally, SAVE AS .PNG. NEVER JPEG.

If you have any questions, or want me to provide a resource, don't hesitate to ask.

You may use these recources without credit.

Nice job Lind! Although you might want to include some minor details such as how to input the text into the textbox with transparency.

I'm not entirely sure that needed doing... what program are you using?

Ah, I'd love to make one of these....I fail too badly at custom graphics, though [primarly cuz I'm stuck with paint] :/

Regardless, I'm sure this will help a lot of people who don't fail at custom graphics.

Bitmap Font Writer. After I write the text, I click the copy button and the background which the text had in the writer, now also appears in the transparent textbox.

Here's the process:

1.) I open a new paint page.

2.) I open Photoshop CS3 and open various images of the characters I already saved with the transparent textbox.

3.) I open Bitmap Font Writer and write the text. After that, I click the copy button.

4.) Then I paste it in the textbox, arrange it a little, and it still has the background color.

Well, I have this question for you. Why are you using font writer? Why don't you just use paint?

Ah! Now, I see, I'll stop using BFW and arrange the text myself! Thanks, I though that would never work.

Not bad Lind. Though it's but my guess how you cope with updating every day using such inefficient methods.

[/evil]

Well it's definately a good beginner's guide. Infact, we could improve it over time and boost up the level of sprite comics around the forum. Well I'm not personally willing to give away my secret super-techniques like that but I do think you'd be better of recommending Gimp for making sprite comics.

I'd say that's a question of taste, Greeny. GIMP and Paint.net are either way sweet and free programs for editing graphics.

Well that really depends on what you want to do and how easy you want it done.

Greeny, I update roughly 4X as often as you do. I really don't think you can talk about what's faster.

I'm lazy, man. Very lazy. And I'm not talking about speed rather than comfort. Don't take it so personally, sheesh.

And I used to update that fast... A long time ago... Ah, good times, good times.

In paint, couldn't you just the (what's it called? You know, the tool that makes the colour anything on the page. Right click on the colour of the background to the BFW font) and choose the transparent background thing on paint.

It's simple but hard to explain. :zenitora:

In all honesty and yes, it's a fact, not merely an opinion.
Gimp> Paint.net for comics.

But the important thing to remember is, It doesn't matter what it looks like, as long as it has an interesting story, characters and pacing; any comic will do fine.

And yes, you WILL get lazy after a while, it's just a fact.
Everyone goes through it. XD

I agree

GIMP is better.

I use some boxes to do my text placement, that way it comes centered and perfect every.

In fact. I think I might make a tutorial for this.

You can set it from "Smooth" to "Sharp" and from "Antialiasing Enabled" to "Antialiasing Disabled," as I found this to resolve the issue. Then again, perhaps you had already accounted for this...

I kind of have to agree with Greeny, how DO you update... I gave this tutorial a more thorough look through, and it doesn't seem like very sufficient methodology.

Thanks Lind, I tried using Paint.NET and stuff, it worked like I expected. YESH
And I used Paint.NET for the text too, it was for fun anyway, and I don't want to make a game or something. :butzthumbs:
Or do I?

Anyway, here's the picture

What do you need the Judge stand for? It's already aligned perfectly for the Judge's sprites...

But yeah, sure, just gimme a bit.

That's more about imaging and spriting than sprite comics themselves... Try asking in the sprites section ;)

(You will probably get responses here, but I think there are more people that browse the sprites section than the sprite comic section.)
