Phoenix Wright Case 1 Review

A new defense lawyer is on the scene of a puzzling murder case! In Mizura's Phoenix Wright Radioplay, based off of the rare Nintendo DS game, we're taken straight into the courtroom! Phoenix Wright, fresh out of the academy must solve the murder of a woman before an innocent man is found guilty! Can Wright protect his accused friend as well as find out who was the REAL murderer in the case?

The first thing to really jump out at me was the diverse casting choices of the radioplay. Each VA portrayed his/her character with splendid results! From the very beginning, the audience is entertained with Tamtu's hilarious rendition of Mr. Sahwit, a nervous criminal attempting to pin a murder on an unsuspecting Larry Butz (voiced by SeiyruRenaih). The scene instantly jumps to a well-casted, nervous Phoenix Wright (voiced by Jerry-kun) talking to his mentor, Mia Fey (voiced by Laura Post). As we enter the courtroom, Lucien Dodge's portrayal of the Old Judge greets us, giving a perfect ambience to the radioplay. Prosecuted by the nervous Payne (voiced by YdocNameloc), Wright must find contradictions in testimonies given. The whole cast gives a perfect look of how the DS game would sound if given live voices. The VA who stuck out the most would have to be Tamtu with a humorous voice of a nervous murderer. Not to forget the small parts, Wishfire, Holy Knight Margo, and Tamtu set up the future scenes perfectly with their small lines as the Narrator, Cindy, and the Thinker. Grade A+ voice cast!

What I really enjoyed about the radioplay is the feel it gave off while listening to it. It made me really feel as if I were playing the game. Though you could tell that some aspects of it were very game-like, it still maintained its purpose as a radioplay.

On to the mixing, Mizura did an excellent job of giving this first episode the feel of a courtroom. All the sound effects were expertly placed, and it gave a visual perspective as to what was happening from scene to scene. However, audio wise, the voice volume seemed to be a little off during the second part of the radioplay. I noticed a few of the voices appeared to be louder than the others. This had no effect on the great impact of the radioplay, though, and it's safe to say that this is one of the best!

I hope that more of these episodes come soon, and in the meantime...I need to go find this game!

This woul be the fourth production I've posted on the VAA and the longest one to date. Now I know some of you are wondering why I even bothere with such a piece seeing how mizura had done such an excellent job with her work. The answer is simple really, I'm a man of my word. When I first made my audition thread I was unaware of her project and pressed forward with mine slecting the cast etc. While I was waiting for my lines, that was when mizura's piece was posted on the VAA. However, I had no intention of dropping my project as that would have been a huge insult to my wonderful cast who all worked so hard, so instead I bit the bullet and continud.

I feel bad that I have yet to listen mizura's rendition of our favorite video game court drama but I thought at this stage I shouldn't in order to prevent me from copying her radioplay's vibe. After I was finished then did I give it the time of day (something I was really glad to do...oh yeah, I need to post my comments).

To those of you who already listened to to mizura's piece and expec a similar production to mine, I would like to say that as producers the two of us went down seperate paths. Mizura went for a more universal interpritation of the game, presenting in a more realistic manner more suitable for an audience that has yet to play for he game. She even went as far as to explain the intro which was a good call on her part. I, on the other hand, was a bit more litteral. I strove to re-create the game experience going as far as to add in the wacky reaction sound effects that the characters release whenever something outragous happens.

Well with that said, here it is and enjoy.

So I decided to check if the 2nd part of Turnabout Sister's is complete. It is up... But you have to sign up and pm the moderator to download it. Geez...

I just checked it out, and it looks like the "2nd part" you refer to is actually the second part of Part 1. Obviously there is going to be confusion when you divide an episode into four parts, and divide those parts into more parts using the same wording. The reason she says to PM her to download is because the audio has been uploaded to be streaming only. Both of these mp3 files that make up Part 1 of Turnabout Sisters are included in the rapidshare zip I provided in several posts above, and I will PM her about the rapidshare link I created if she would like to use it.

Episode II part 2/4 has not yet been released as of this posting.
