I'd really like to get a good Mafia following on this forum, and in and effort to kick things off, I started up a Ghost Trick-themed version of the game. You can find the link in my sig.

Mafia started as a party game, which is not being played online in many different ways. The core aspect of the game is always generally the same. There are two main sides-the "Town" and the "Mafia". The Mafia all know who one another are, and they get a nightly kill. They hide among the other players. The game is divided into two phases-Day and Night. During the day, everyone votes to lynch someone. During the Night, the Mafia kills. Every player has a role, most of which have unique abilities attached to it. For example, the Detective role can commonly investigate a player and find out if they are innocent or guilty. The Framer-a Mafia role-can make it so another player looks guilty when investigated. All these roles have win conditions. For the Town, it's usually to kill all the Mafia. For the Mafia, it's usually to outnumber the Town. There can also be roles with unique win conditions. The Serial Killer commonly strives to be the last one left alive and can kill off other players. The Lovers are two players who strive to end the game alive together.

Themed versions have also become popular. For example, my Ghost Trick Mafia is one such themed game. It takes the core aspects and gives them a Ghost Trick twist. Dead players can now be revived more frequently, and Ghosts play more of a role.

Does anyone else like Mafia?

Well, I hope you both will go sign up for Ghost Trick Mafia. It would be great if we could get some games going.

There was actually a large Mafia group that spawned here a couple years ago. They had to relocate because they were contributing to bandwidth overuse, and the site had to shut down the forum-games section.

However, the community is still alive and kicking (I'm one of the admins, as a matter of fact), and we're always looking for new members. There's a link to the website in my signature, if you care to have a look around.

Nothing really seems to be going on there, though. I don't see many current posts, and no running games. Anyway, I hope you'll sign up for my game. We still need a lot more players.

There is currently an Ocarina of Time themed round scheduled to begin as soon as it gets enough players, and there are dozens of smaller rounds awaiting sign-ups, too. We just finished playing a unique round based on totalitarianism and anarchy.

Also, while I must concede that we are relatively low on activity at the moment, the "I'm not joining because there aren't any people" mentality is really detrimental, don't you think? Plus, when the games get going, there's a lot more activity.

P.S. I'm not even sure if you're allowed to play forum games here anymore, since they removed the Berry Big Circus.

I never said that, though. I just made a comment.

It would be sad if no forum games were allowed...

I suppose I read too much into it. But like I said, activity gets a lot higher once we get a round started. You should come by and play. Also anyone else who's interested in playing Mafia. We're pretty cool you know.

You might want to ask a staffer about running your round. I'd hate to see more Mafia games get kicked out, too.

Another thing that's a turn-off, is that I didn't see anything in any of the topics I looked at about how the games are run. How long phases are and the like.

I've looked at the rules, and I see nothing about forum games not being allowed. We just don't seem to have a section for them anymore.

It's dynamic. Each game sets its own rules, which is why there is no generic template set aside.

Also it's totally stopped getting activity just because I'm not making rounds. :3

The last game actually hosted on CR itself can be found in this thread. That was a long time ago though.
Does we even do these things anymore?

I've got no problem with discussion of Mafia, just keep all the games off site.

Just to let everyone know, I've PMed the admin fighting this and hope others will do the same. It's one thing to be against those spammy forum games that get a massive amount of posts daily, but Mafia is not like that.

Hey we tried to warn you. We had this fight three years ago. We lost it. And now VS is where you go to play Mafia with CR ties.

Them's the breaks, these guys will never budge on that. Take it or leave it.

It's actually right here. You're not looking very hard, bro.

In any case, if forum games are brought back to CR, that's all well and good. Not that it's really a big deal to me, though.

Forum games are not returning to CR. I'm sorry, but the amount of spam they generated wasn't good for the site, and that's really the last thing we need when we're still getting our sea legs on this new server.
