Well, figured everyone has a place where they've worked that's sucked (for lack of a better term). So tell us your stories!

My place is a vet clinic that I just recently left. It was probably one of the bad work environments ever. People would talk about you behind your back when you're obviously standing right beside them. Not to mention scapegoating was a sport and passing the blame on. Or my boss telling me one thing then forgets to tell me an important detail and when I don't do that detail, she goes at me.

I know, not the worst, but hey, if you have worse, tell us!

I had to work at a restaurant once washing dishes. There was no air conditioning and I had to stand literally half a foot from the stove and I was told I had to conserve water so my sink was pitifully low of water which turned orange really fast :/ The food cooked there was fine but all I could smell was the horrible stench of shellfish which I really hate and when I went home I couldn't get the smell off me no matter how much I showered. I dreamt about the place every night.

And it was always busy. Always.

I used to be a teaching assistant for one of my old professors. She was crazy and forgot my name all the time. She even addressed me wrong in emails (when our full name was the email). She would make me teach the class even though under our system, I wasn't supposed to do that. She even tried to get me to write her tests for her. I worked with her in classes that met in person and ones that were solely online.

My supervisor had to have a talk with her and some of the problems got solved really quick. I dreaded each new term I had to work under that professor. The pay was worth it only during the sessions where the classes was online because then I didn't have to deal with the insanity/senility everyday.

My only job so far is cleaning a lawyer's office. And man, do I wish it was Phoenix! But no, nobody's keeping the toilet clean at this place, they don't even necessarily flush. More often than not, I can smell the toilet saying hello upon entering the bathroom (yuck).
Then there was this one time when I had to take out the trash and the whole bin was overflowing with rice. Only the "rice" suddenly moved, because it was actually maggots. Lots and lots of them. Thankfully that day was the last day of work before my vacation, so I didn't have to deal with the maggots that had already escaped and probably crawled all over the place.
My boss is pretty nice, though. And it's really the only job-related thing I can do, so I'm glad to have it. I just wish they would keep their toilet clean.

A door to door thing. It was degrading and I fucking loathed it.

I've been quite lucky with jobs though, I've worked since I was 17 and I enjoyed 3 out of the 4 jobs I've had.

Once worked for an asshole who thought the internet was an amazing place where ANY info you need can be found.

"Hey I need you to find me the number of Snoop Dogg"

I can't find it.

"What am I paying you for!?"

Infuriating.

Most of my jobs have been crappy since I'm still a kid. I've been working since I was 15, and my first job was fast food. Horrible. The job I left before my current job was at a gas station, preparing chicken. It was horrible, I came home smelling like fried chicken and no shampoo would change that, no matter how many showers I took. I'm so glad I left that place. My current job is way better as a restaurant hostess. :)

My first job was at a restaurant. I was still a minor at the time (14-15), and my manager still expected me to work full time and got angry when I asked for time off for finals. After that, she changed the time limit for asking off from one week to two weeks... without telling us.

Apart from burning popcorn, I love doing voluntary work. I work at a charity shop and also help out at a day centre.

I've never had a paying job but I've got a job interview soon.

I haven't had that many jobs, to be honest. But out of the few, it's got to be the call centre. I didn't last long at all, and when I quit I think I could have easily cried tears of joy. It was awful.

I also hated my sales assistant job, and found retail to be a soul destroying sector to work in.

The only jobs I've ever worked are just errands in school, but a few of them can be long and annoying.

The library is the worst. Bug infestation, dusty books, and EVERYTHING IS SO OUT OF ORDER. Last time I was working up in the library, we were swatting bluebottles with hardback books. And behind the bookshelves were CRAWLING with bugs >.< EWWWWWWWWWWW...

Here! Have a free revival, complimentary of Steel Turnabout!
So, I was working at Applebee's today! It would have been better if there was more than one cook, the kitchen was larger, and the plates were UNDER triple digits for a temperature. Seriously. Applebee's heats plates up to 200*F, so when they come out, they dry instantly. And they're still hot as fuck when we have to deliver them.

Right? When I got home, I stuck my hands in ice. It felt good. Oh so good. And everyone would take the trays, leaving me to take two meals at a time, one in each hand, plate burning into my hand.
Never. Again.

I worked in a mobile phone store. Worse job ever. I ended up leaving after 2 months. Why? They were worried about their precious commission targets then my own health. I got hospitalised during the early hours of the morning on a day I was supposed to be working. The doctors and my parents clearly told them that I couldn't make it to work and that I needed at least a week off. My manager at the time seemed more worried about how her store targets were going to be down then my general health. I quit a week later and never returned.

I had a couple of interviews at Phones4U once, and I must say, I'm SO glad I didn't get the job. They were talking about sales targets all the time, and the people who worked there were terrible at customer service as it was, and just lied to sell things. I couldn't do that. My opinion of those types of shops has significantly gone down.

This is SO true. I've worked for two mobile phone stores: Carphone Warehouse and Orange. It was actually at Orange where the above situation happened. When working for CPW, one of the best jobs I've ever had. Had to leave and eventually got a job at Orange due to relocating to another city and CPW wasn't able to transfer me to another store nearby. CPW was more about customer service where as Orange was about sales targets. They used to tell me off for helping customers out with queries, they told me I should have told them to call the customer services team and then continue to sell.

I've been rejected from Mcdonalds four times. I've been rejected by Boots a lot more though. I wouldn't want to work in a phone store because it's not my forte.

I felt so sorry for my friend when she told me she got her first job. It was in a McDonalds. In a Walmart. She hated it and when finals got close she finally quit. She told us that she needed to have a timer for every time she carried out an order and she's expected to continue getting faster at it (which sounds pretty stressful). People would come up to her and just order in Spanish... she's Japanese and doesn't know a lick of Spanish. Everyone else who worked there chatted with each other in Spanish, so she could never start up a conversation with them. You know the trays where they give you your food? They never clean them. If you ask for apples as part of your happy meal? Her manager encouraged her to give them the expired packets. I told her I wish I had at least taken the job with her so I could've translated for her XD

I haven't had any real job, just volunteering at my library (which is considered one of the best of the state, so it's pretty well-kept and I had a blast being there). I also volunteered at the Food Bank for a short time, but then I felt annoyed because, instead of sorting food and such like we used to, they started making me do random things like washing their car. :/ I mean, I guess it's still community service, but it's not what I expected.

Judging by everyone else's experience maybe it's a blessing I got job rejections from Mcdonalds. The closest to a job I've ever been is volunteering. I've thought about doing it in the library but I already got enough on my plate.

For about a month and a half, I covered for a guy at my wrestling training facility, training novices and stuff. It was hell. Seriously, I've been training for 6 years now (so since I was 10), so I'm pretty damn experienced at what I do. These guys, who were about 24 -25, were not happy by being trained by someone so much younger than them. They were so damn cocky that when I tried to teach them stuff, they wouldn't listen to me, so they'd hurt themselves, and then blame me for it. Not only that, but when I had to actually show them moves by actually doing the moves on them, they wouldn't cooperate, so I ended up with a broken arm by the end of it.

Worst part: Because these guys complained that I wasn't teaching them correctly, I didn't get payed for the 42 hours of work I did.

The worst (and only, meaning it's also the best) place I've ever worked is a local grocery store. I was a courtesy clerk, which mostly meant putting whatever customers purchased in bags, making small talk at times to make the atmosphere friendly, retrieving stray carts, and cleaning up messes. Occasionally, I'd help take a customer's groceries to their car or help them find something. On the positive side, I was essentially being paid to be nice to people. On the negative side, the cleaning bit was not particularly pleasant, and my feet were usually sore from all the standing around I did. It was also rather annoying how people would just leave carts stranded in the parking lot.
