From garden-variety mistakes to "I will never do that again to prevent this from happening!" moments, tell us of the dumb things you've done. Whether they make you angry, sad or just confuse you in terms of how you managed to make those, let us know.

On Friday, I sent an e-Mail to the lawyer from whose office I was fired from on Thursday. A short, mandatory e-Mail thanking him for letting me work in the office and gain some experience in that field. Also asked him to please send a monetary compensation to my bank account - because I just don't work for nothing.

Problem is, I wanted to use the word "Vergütung" (Compensation) but I for some reason ended up writing "Verfügung" (Regulation/Provision/etc) I seriously have no idea how I made that mistake, I mean I know the word and have used it before...! God, it had already been sent out for hours before I realized my mistake! Oh so embarrassing and stupid...!

I hope he knows... he should know what I actually meant.
Just the thought that he might laugh at that mistake... argh!

So, imagine a landing on the second floor of a house. When you get to the top of the stairs, the ceiling is about as high as it is in many parts of the house- approximately nine feet off the floor. However, it's not uniform. The far half of the room has a heightened ceiling where its ceiling is approximately 14-20 feet off the ground (don't quote me, I'm horrible at judging sizes). Anyway, this landing contains a coffee table which has a lot of my stuff piled on it (the room I lived in previous to moving to this house was bigger, and so some of it won't fit in my room without it clogging up the room). My sister is about to move into an apartment, so she wanted to take said coffee table. I helped clear stuff off of it on the end of the table on the far side of the room (as you'll recall, with the higher ceiling). I'd gotten pretty far when I realized that I was trapped after clearing the stuff off.

So, I decided to walk on the coffee table. It's sturdy, so it didn't break. But there was still a high pile of things on the other side (various guides I'd purchased over the years before discovering gamefaqs), so instead of moving the stuff from where I was, or just simply attempting to step over this stuff, I decided to jump.

Remember about the higher ceiling? I was on that side, and forgot to look up to see if I might, I dunno, HIT MY HEAD ON WHERE THE CEILING IS LOWER.

Six stitches, a slight concussion, and hurt pride. Oh, and I had started this task thinking that I'd take a shower afterwords (as I hadn't done so yet that day). Nope. I wasn't allowed to do so until late the next day, and even then, I had to wear a shower cap so that my stitches didn't get wet. My first shower where I could clean everything was after that.

When I was 8, I put my hand on a light bulb, that had been on for a few minutes and burned my hand. Since then, I've had a fear of getting burned, to the point where I find it hard to sit near a campfire.

When I was eight, I tried carving a pumpkin, but I didn't really watch as I was doing it. I sliced my finger open really badly and now have an irrational fear of carving pumpkins.

Hihi. Although I guess it's a way to wash the socks.

Remember how I mentioned my... writing mistake in my first post? Have yet to get an answer or anything, I wonder if I should call the law office and ask about the e-Mail/compensation.

And a way to demonstrate how my brain is dead until 10 AM.

You should call. It's your right, as you said, you don't work for nothing.

In 10th grade, I had to go and finish up a Chem. lab early in the morning. It involved using a bunsen burner. This will tell you how awake I am in the mornings. So, I finish doing what I need to do in a test tube using the bunsen burner. I turn the bunsen burner off. Silly, now aware of anything, morning me assumes "hey, the burner is off, I can touch the test tube now." Ended up burning my fingers when I went to grab it.

Lesson learned: It's a very bad idea to do science labs when one is not fully awake, especially when it involves heating test tubes.

Heh, good that my junior college didn't do any experiments or anything like that. At least, none where the students do much. Chemistry was the first lesson in the morning where I had to get up at 6 AM to be there in time for 8 AM and I kept getting very sleepy during those lessons.
Though that may have been the subject as well.

Yeah, typing classes were not the most fun thing to do during that week. I hated having to type paragraphs with only my left hand. We usually had our labs in the afternoon, but this particular one ended up taking too long one day, hence the incident.

The library I used to go to during highschool had a public file (that anyone with half a brain could access) I dragged my school files onto it (I had the files "School" and "Smut" right next to each-other on my flashdrive)
I had put it in a folder labeled "From E[REAL NAME WITHHELD]"
When my friends opened it, they saw a file named smut, and all of my debauched porn was made public.
It was so bad that the people who maintained the network made new barriers for us to cross.

The worst part is that people made the backgrounds of the screens the porn pictures.

That right there, DoMaya, is why I avoid pornography; I'm too worried it would be discovered by someone I wouldn't want discovering it.

Anyway, I think I've mentioned this before, but when I was a little boy, I got the brilliant idea of climbing down a 45-degree cliff covered in ice plant to pick cactus berries, bringing them to the top, and smashing them with a croquet mallet. As it turns out, stepping on ice plant is a good way to get it covered in slippery juices. It's also possible that I just lost my footing without any liquid assistance, but either way, I wound up getting up close and personal with a member of the Opuntia genus. Thankfully, my long pants and long-sleeved shirt deflected most of the big needles (I got plenty of little needles in my hands, though). My arms and legs probably would have been pretty badly sliced up if I had been wearing, say, a tank top and shorts.

When I was around 12 or so, I was at the public pool. Being the stupid kid I was, I ran near the pool to get to my friends who were at the other end. Next thing I knew, I slipped on the wet surface and fell backwards; in the process, my left leg twisted around and my knee/leg smashed into the concrete surface as I landed, causing me great pain and a torn ligament. To this day I still have some minor medical issues that resulted from the accident.

To summarize: Obey the signs, don't run near the pool.

That is a good lesson. You know those TV shows that show Home Videos that generally result in fuck ups? Whenever we see a video that includes a pool, we cringe at the thought that someone may be running around that place and falling. Especially my mother has a terrible fear of falling, after slipping on ice a few years ago, injuring her leg which resulted in a thrombosis and an embolism.

When I was a kid, I was going on a field trip with my class to the wetlands, and I ate algae. I have no idea what possessed me to do so, but I did it.

When I was in kindergarten, I pooped in a urinal. It was above the ground, and I was short even by kindergartener standards, so people were wondering how I did it.

When I was a little kid, I attempted to take the screen off my tv, 'cause I thought that if I did so, I'd be able to enter my video game.
