This is a topic for people to talk about their favourite non-English/American bands.
Examples: NAAST, Revolverheld or Tomoyasu Hotei. (Who in my opinion, is godly on a guitar.)
So yeah. Discuss who ya like, things like that.
You can also post videos to songs by Foreign bands.
BUT! No illegals (Downloading, stuff like that) dirty videos (But if it's just the video, then go ahead. But no hardcore pr0n!) and no, NO RICK ROLLING!
If you break any o' dem rules, I'll be all over ya like a fly on crap.
Ya got it? :texasman:
Good. Discuss away!

Great bands.
And yes, the one's I posted were Santana. They kick butt. Especially with Smooth.
The French one was NAAST. They were in GHIII with that same song.

^ Possibly one of the greatest Tomoyasu Hotei songs ever. Awesome guitar.

My favourite foreign artists in rank. I love foreign death metal, especially that of eastern Europe.

I won't list video game artists up here. All the names of the guys sound the same and are too weird for me to remember. :meekins:

1. Children of Bodom! I love Alexi Laiho and he is damn sexy.
2. Dir en Grey. Though they are the only Japanese band I know, unfortunately, they kick so much ass.
3. Tristania - I wish Vibeke was still with them... she left. :sob: Same with Morton Veland, though more in the Widow's Weeds days. (Every other Tristania fan would disagree with me there)
4. Opeth - their dark melodies and beautiful lyrics are amazing.
5. Bjork is amazing. I love her! [I don't know how to do that weird o thing on the computer...]

I have a very weird taste in music. I like what I listen to, though.

-Asian Kung-Fu Generation- I learned about them through a Naruto theme song, and got into other songs of their's
-Eros Ramazzotti - I heard him on a mix CD, he's great.
-Aqua and Toybox- I'm fairly sure they both hail from Denmark. They do Techno-Pop (Aqua did Barbie Girl).
-Santana- A great band. I was introduced to them by my father.

One of my favourite bands now is a garage rock band from France called the Plastiscines (sic). I have one song on my playlist from Nanne Grönvall, who's Swedish, and I'll probably get more from her later. In the Japanese corner we have Ayumi Hamasaki and Little Non. And I don't know anyone who hasn't listened to the Romanian Dragostea Din Tei from O-Zone. :gymshoe:

Oh, and I don't know if they count as 'foreign', but the Australian rock band Silverchair also kicks ass :redd:

Loser - Les Plastiscines (official music video)
Håll om mig (Hold me) - Nanne Grönvall (Princess Tutu AMV; kicks ass)
Moments - Ayumi Hamasaki (KH2 AMV; kicks less ass)
Hanamaru Sensation - Little Non (Japanese fan video; must-see)
Dragostea Din Tei (Numa Numa) - O-Zone (official music video)
Acid Rain - Silverchair (some video about acid rain)

I'm trying to get into more foreign music, but I have no idea who to look for. Thank Godot for this thread :godot:

The majority of my music collection consists of foreign music, if foreign means anything other than English. To break it down, I'd say about

- 40% Chinese (Mandarin)
- 30% Chinese (Cantonese)
- 15% Japanese and Korean combined
- 10% English
- 5% Others including instrumental

Chinese music is love :edgy: I'll share some of my random favourite ones at the moment:

I actually like quite a bit of hispanic stuff. My Spanish teachers have introduced me, over the years, to artists such as Juanes and Manu Chao.

La Camisa Negra (The Black Shirt) by Juanes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASXzq1O9rrc
Me Gustas Tu (I Like You) by Manu Chao: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mzhgPjXAlI

Of course, I can't go without mentioning the Greek stuff.
A song from a Greek movie (song title literally translated is On Top of My Crazyness): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8zqG3F3l4M
Yassou Maria (Hello Maria) by Sarbel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94TP08rWzPs (video does not include entire song)
^Greek entry to 2007 Eurovision song contest, finished 7 out of 20-something entries

Unfortunately, I do not fully understand the lyrics of any of the above songs. My Spanish and Greek are good for conversations, but the songs move too fast or they use language uncommon in everyday speak.

I also like more traditional Greek stuff, played using the bouzouki, the lyre, etc.

What's local to me is foreign to you. This is all just subjective anyway.

And did you HAVE to put NAAST's entry on Guitar Hero 3? I thought it was absolutely dreadful.

Wait... So, basically I can't speak about English or American bands here although they are foreign bands to me? O_o

Well, to name a few NON-ENGLISH/AMERICAN (and non-Finnish, since that wouldn't be foreign to me) band, here's a list of what I listen to:

- Sigur Rós (Iceland)
- Convoj (SWE)
- Cult of Luna (SWE)
- Khoma (SWE)
- Caribou (CAN) WAIT! Can I post that one either?
- Cornelius (JAP)
- YMCK (JAP)

Since I can't post anything American, although that would be foreign to me, my list is relatively short.

Well, since you say that "foreign music" is music where the singer doesn't sing in English, I suppose I can post some Spanish bands.
Héroes del Silencio - La sirena varada
Antònia Font - Alegria
Quique González & Bunbury - Pequeño rock & roll
Barón Rojo - Los rockeros van al infierno

And non-Spanish bands that are neither from the USA nor England:
Pain of Salvation - Ashes
Therion - Lemuria
Valensia - Phantom of the Opera

JerryDingIdiotAtLaw, I think General Luigi isn't referring to videogame music composers.

I'm aware of that. But I just remembered that Nobua Uematsu is Foreign, and a composer, and I just wanted to make it clear, seeing as there's a topic about video game music.
I've heard of Heroes del Silencio, but only from GHIII. I need to play more Rhythm games.

I don't even think of music as being 'foreign' anymore, or at least see no novelty in it. The last band I really noticed being foreign, however, was Sons and Daughters sometime in January when their newest album came out ... I listened the hell out of it, still do.

But it just doesn't seem like a big deal, especially when realizing a good three-fourths of everything I listen to is from Not-America-Land. It's just all rawk music.

Rick rolling is when you give someone a supposedly innocent link, and then it's actually a video of Rick Astley's song "Never Gonna Give You Up" I've heard there's another song, but I forget what it's called.
I don't listen to much Foreign Rock. (My definition of listen is like at least one of the band's albums.) The only Foreign Rock band I listen a lot of to is Santana, though some might not classify that as Rock.

Nego, Ha ha, my dad likes Sigur Ros too. Of course I once listened to it and it blew my eardrums, but we all like different music.

If that's the case (foreigh music = music with non-english vocals), my list will be narrowed a bit more. :D To me the language the music is sung is not important though. I usually try to listen to the music over the vocals as it gives me so much more than words. Maybe that's why I love Sigur Rós. Their vocals are just another instrument and you're not supposed to listen to the vocals and try to understand them. No, you're supposed to listen to the music as a whole. That's why the singer, Jónsi Birgisson, sings both in Icelandic and Hopelandish (a made-up language based on Icelandic).

Well, here's my list. I also included some Finnish bands as they are foreign to you Americans. I disincluded those bands who sing in English.
(in alphabetical order)
- Apulanta (FIN) [Trauma]
- Cornelius (JAP) [Count Five or Six]
- Sigur Rós (IS) [Gobbledigook (video NSFW, so I linked to the song on YouTube)]
- YMCK (JAP) [Go! YMCK Go!]

Foreign Music = The band either: 1. Speaks in another language and is from another country,
2. Speaks English, but is from another country.

Still.... :yuusaku:
I know Daft Punk is one.
Demoniac(See: Dragonforce) might be another. New Zealand doesn't have an official language because of all the nationalities and languages people use there. Still, they're an awesome band and ANY awesome band HAS to speak more than one language. That's a given rule or the music just....Dies. :shy:
Rhapsody/ThunderCross/Rhapsody of Fire/Whatever... (See above reasoning)
Stratovarius (They're gone? :sadshoe: )
I'm positive Yngwie Malmsteen didn't grow up on pure English. Name changes were in order. Jimi's death struck a nerve. A legend was born. GG NO RE.

There's a lot more I'd post but I'm not sure about the non-English thingy.
