I took a few years of Spanish and was at the top of the class, and I'm on my third year of Latin. Gosh, I want to be one of you guys at a high school that "only" has Spanish and French. Mine only has Latin and Greek!

Ja, helemaal mee eens :pearl: Nou, ik heb een vriend van me ook hier heen gekregen, ook Nederlands :edgy:
My main language is Dutch,
i can speak English, i'm not the best at grammar tough, that's why i mostly keep it simple..
I can speak some French and German, but i'm not good at it.

It's funny - I'm able to understand what you write, but I never learned Dutch at all. :will:
Maybe because the Grammar and the vocabulary is so similar to German... for example, your "Waarom" sounds like the German "Warum" which means why... ahh, aren't languages just great? :edgy:

I used to be quite good at it like 2 years ago.. right now I'm not even able to write down a few simple sentences XD
..because I'm a fucking lazy person =D

Taking latin was kind of pointless, but I had to -__-
Oh and I also know some turkish.. but mostly the bad words hahaha

Ich finds auch immer toll wenn selbst Deutsche ihre eigene Sprache nicht beherrschen hahah zB hör ich schon Sachen wie "Voll der Opfer" oder sowas wie "mah guck doch mit diese Pony.. sieht voll geil aus"

Actually you have to say "Ich liebe es, wenn Sie Deutsch reden" :P
But that is formal... if you want to say it the informal way it's "Ich liebe es, wenn du Deutsch sprichst"... it's like "Vous" and "Tu" in French, but I think you use "Vous" more often in French than you use "Sie" in German... for example, in the french version of PW, Gumshoe says "Vous" to Phoenix (formal), but in the German version he says "Du" - the informal way.

Somehow I think my English was terrible in this post. xD

I have a very poor grasp of Latin, know a few words of Russian, a smattering of German, and enough Japanese to get by as a tourist. Then there's just the random words from various languages that you just pick up.

I think it's similar, yes. I study Italian and because of that, I can understand a fair bit of Spanish, so I'd imagine that if you learn "Spain" Spanish, you'd also be able to understand Latin American Spansh.

Nein. Unfortunately not... It was a sentence my German professor told us last year. It's kind of an inside joke...ish...?? XDDD Just wanted to throw in some random Deutsch that I know kekeke :edgy: Like I said, I can't make up my own sentences or thoughts in German, unfortunately... :[

Tacas wrote:

Hehe thanks, well it's only perfect because I wrote it down after my German professor said it. I couldn't think of that on my own!! XDD I said "I must prepare..." because the sentences she was saying were all random and weird. She was joking around and using something random, like guinea pigs, as an example for different sentences.

Umm, when I took Spanish in high school, I think I remember my teacher saying that it's pretty much the same in both countries, but there are some slight differences in some of the pronunciations and some of the words might be slightly different to describe another word. Or something like that. I could be totally wrong...

My first language is Hiberno English, but I can speak British English, American and Australian fluently. :redd:

We also have to learn Irish and French in school, I'm crap at them both, but I know more French than Irish, which is weird since I've only been doing French for three years now. I've been doing Irish for about eleven years, but it's such a ridiculous language. Nobody even speaks it any more, but they insist you learn it till you live school. I honestly think it'd be more useful to learn Latin(and I don't want to learn Latin either, btw), but whatever. This whole topic makes me mad. :chinami:

I am none too good at learning new languages, which is why I am finding my University module on British India so hard, it has a lot of Indian words in it.

I've taken courses in French, German and Japanese but I only remember brief nonsense phrases or things which caught my eye. I am being lazy and stopped Japanese at the 'child' level, so I can not even read very well haha.

I guess learning to read music is also like a new language, which I suck at again.

Besides English, I know how to speak American and a bit of British, I am just about finished with my first semester of British in college now and going into the next level of British. I don't know how to write or read American but I can speak it quite fluently, I can write and read British better than I can speak it oddly. But overall I am most fluent in English.

Yeah, but if your mother tongue is German, it actually very simple. Well, actually there are lots of German people who make lots of mistakes in their very own language xD
For example, most people say "einzigster" instead of "einziger". It's like English speaking people would say "I'm the onliest one" or something like that.

Uh, "British" and "American" as languages don't exist- we both speak English. There's a variance in accent, occasionally we use different words for the same thing e.g. "bonnet" and "trunk" and there are a few spelling differences, but it's the same language.
and personally, I always think that British rather than American English spellings should be considered the correct one, as we did kind of invent the language. But I'm just a horribly biased Brit XD

I agree with you there. I like "this is my favourite colour" more than "this is my favorite color". Also, the British pronounciation is just great! ^^ I don't really like the American pronounciation... it sounds so mumbled and weird. xD

Besides English, I know how to speak American and a bit of British, I am just about finished with my first semester of British in college now and going into the next level of British. I don't know how to write or read American but I can speak it quite fluently, I can write and read British better than I can speak it oddly. But overall I am most fluent in English.

You can't speak Australian as well? Ha, I can. You could probably manage Irish English too. It's not that hard if you study a lot. :godot:
